About this property

Beside the lagoon - Waikanae Beach

A private, characterful holiday home overlooking Waimanu lagoon and the mountains beyond. The accommodation comprises a living/dining area downstairs with kitchenette, then a twin bedroom next to the bathroom and laundry. Upstairs there is a queen bedroom and additional living area where there is a futon style sofa bed. For winter months, there is a woodburner and radiators and heaters in the bedrooms and bathroom, wood is provided. Wifi is very fast, the TV has a chromecast, the bathroom was updated in 2020 so there is plenty of hot water. The view is its best feature as you wake up to see ducks and swans gliding over the water - all in all, it's a relaxing and welcoming place to unwind and enjoy the ambience of Waikanae Beach with its scenery, walks and cafes/restaurants.

From the back gate, you can walk along the lagoons to the estuary where there is access to the beach, or inland along the cycle and walking track which borders Waikanae river. The estuary to the south is a wonderful viewing spot for the spectacular and famous Kapiti sunsets. To the north along Tutere Street, you will find a well stocked 4 square, a bar/restaurant - Long Beach, and another restaurant called Coasties, there is also a Thai restaurant on the seafront at the end of Waimea Road. Waikanae Beach also has a fish and chip shop and a bakery, childrens playgrounds, tennis court and a bowling club. On Saturdays, there is a fabulous local market in Waikanae Park (until midday). It's a safe and relaxing neighbourhood with a gorgeous beach, well worth a visit!

About the host

Host profile image
I moved to New Zealand from Bristol UK in 2004. The house was built in the style of kiwi bach and so it suits its role as a holiday let and I love sharing it when I am back in the UK as it's a special spot, a simple getaway for NZers as well as a favourite amongst people from abroad.

Why they chose this property

It was my dream to live in New Zealand for many years and I chose to live in this region after travelling through NZ for 5 months in 2000/2001. I had friends in Kapiti and it seemed to make sense to live near the capital city, and then perhaps move from there to a more remote location in the future. I never left as Waikanae Beach is so beautiful!

What makes this property unique

Beautiful lake side setting, tranquil and peaceful, always a joy to wake up and see the ducks, geese and swans gliding over the water and the pukekos picking their way around the lagoon side
