Very nice cabin that had all of the amenities needed for a family vacation. Kitchen was very clean and they had everything you need to cook at home. Owner was very clear about the location and parking in winter. If you do not have 4WD and snow tires you will not be able to get into this driveway! Would definitely book this cabin again, it was lovely!
This was a wonderful place to stay for our family of four. With three bedrooms (two bedrooms and a bathroom upstairs and one bedroom and a bathroom downstairs) we had plenty of space for everyone, yet it is was nice and cozy. We enjoyed the gas fireplace and large windows in main living area to see the snow, trees, and views of the mountains. The kitchen had everything we needed to make dinners each night. The house is on a quiet street in the Tahoe Donner neighborhood, great proximity to Snow Play area, Donner Ski Resort, and 10-15 minute drive to downtown Truckee. Sheri, the host, was a great communicator via text when we had questions and was flexible as we ended up extending our stay another night because we enjoyed our trip so much. We highly recommend this home in Truckee for your next getaway!
My extended family really enjoyed staying here. Nicely furnished, very comfortable beds, crystal clean. Sheri, the host, is very accommodating and responsive.
Clean and updated home in Tahoe Donner. We enjoyed July 4th weekend in Sheri's home. It had all we needed for our family of 5. Thanks for a lovely stay!
The place was perfect for me and my two kids. The kitchen is well stocked, the place is in great shape, and the owner was very responsive. The outside deck with the fire pit and bbq was an added plus.
Great home clean and good location will stay again

Nice house, but some downsides
The house was clean and the space was nice. The mattresses were all cheap memory foam, and we actually spent the second night in a hotel because I was so uncomfortable the first night on the mattress that had zero support. There also did not seem to be a hairdryer in the house, which to me is a basic expected amenity. The owner was really demanding in the rental process and had us sign extra elaborate contracts and send a copy of my driver’s license, which I have never had to do for a vrbo before.
All in all, the house itself was fine, but I would not choose to stay here again, because there are many other rentals available in the area that have more comfortable beds, and an easier rental process.

This cabin is a legacy property built by my father in 1980 and left to me after he passed away. It is a special place of memories and love for our family. Since 1999, we have remodeled and upgraded everything in the house from the Kitchen, Bathrooms, Showers, Bedrooms, Audio Video, Internet, and HVAC. It has been a labor of love and a promise kept to my father to keep it in our family.
We are really disappointed to receive this negative feedback on our property. With criticism we look for the opportunity to address and do better for our guests experience.
Rental Application Process
Our rental process is upfront and explained on the site. The added step of sending a copy of a valid Identification Card (DL) was only added after renters misrepresented themselves and had a large party in the cabin. This party caused significant damage to the property and the local authorities had to arrive on scene. Never has a customer complained of our rental process.
As explained by the Truckee police, you can’t rent a room at any hotel without providing Identification and it may help screen out potential unwanted renters. I guess the question could be asked, what harm was done having to prove your identification? Why would that be a problem?
In the future, we will change our policy slightly requesting a simple picture of the guest’s ID for verification to be text messaged or sent on email.
Beds not being comfortable
This is a comment that we struggle with.
The two mattresses upstairs are only a few years old. They are Sealy Posturepedic mattresses. Because of the cold nights in Tahoe Donner, many cabins add Memory Foam toppers to the beds to help hold in heat.
These are not “inexpensive or cheap” and were only recently added this last year.
Again, taking this review seriously, we have tested all the beds and noticed that the downstairs bed seemed not as comfortable as the two upstairs. We have replaced the mattress with a brand-new Sealy Posturepedic Pillow Top Mattress. We will not put memory foam on this mattress and will detail this on the VRBO site to insure everyone is aware of the bed configuration. Some guests may not want to sleep on memory foam and this will give an option. This should correct the problem.
Just to be clear, we received no calls from this guest during their stay that anything was wrong and certainly would have addressed any concerns if brought to our attention.
Last, a hair dryer has been added. This concludes our response. TY.

Great place to stay in Truckee.
This home was very cozy and comfortable, and it was especially clean. We would not hesitate to stay here again when we are looking for a rental in Truckee. Sheri was very nice to work with in setting up the reservation. Thank you so much for sharing your home.

Fantastic property
Great place, location, clean, with everything we needed. Owners had great communication and everything worked great. Northstar provided us with amazing skiing and we had extra snow bonus part way through the weekend, also!
Perfect weekend!

Dirty. No lights in the bedroom, the other bedroom loghts barely functioning. No towilet paper, etc.
Seems like the preveous renters just left the house right before our arrival and the housekeepers were in a rush. Crumbs in the refregirator, lights not working in one of the bedrooms, the other bedroom lights are barely working. No toilet paper, no washing detergent. No towels in the bathroom, then we found the towels still being in the dryer. We did spill some cranberry juice on the armchair, the owners are charging us an arm and a leg for the stain removal, you could buy a whole new chair for almost that price. Also, the owners accusted us of leaving the stain on the carpet which we did not cause. I could of just say that the stain on the chair was there to begin with since even the cleaners did not see the stain. However, being an honest person I took full responsibility for the stain. And then being charged for carpet cleaning and the stain on the carpet was there to begin with! Very upset and dissappinted. Will not come back.

This is a family legacy property that we take a lot of pride in keeping well maintained and clean so it exceeds the expectations of our renters. We have never had issues with previous renters not being fully satisfied. The problem with this review is that it's missing some important details. The stains on the chair and carpet were found by the owner after check-out. The cushion on chair was flipped over to disguise the stain and the chair was relocated to cover the carpet stain. I was not honestly notified of the stains by the renter which was very disappointing because stains will set in place permanently if not cleaned in a timely manner. This stain sat on the fabric and carpet for over 2 weeks before they were found. I wish I could attach the pictures to this review for all to see the damage this renter caused - astonishing! She did pay for a portion of the professional cleaning service but not the entire amount. All other complaints mentioned in her review were brought to my attention only after I found stains on chair and carpet and notified her. It was as if it was a defensive response to her dishonesty, not legitimate complaints otherwise she would have told me about the problems when found so I could have had the opportunity to correct them. I'm a very caring and accomodating owner that wants my renters to have the best experience of their life when vacationing at my property. It's always kept in pristine condition. I'm sorry this renter wasn't happy but this is not the norm for my property as you can see from the other 5 star reviews.

Great Cabin!
My wife and I spend a few days with our two kids (ages 6 and 3) in Donner during Ski Week. Donner as well as the Cabin are amazing. There are a lot's of things to do especially with younger kids. The cabin is great to relax after an exhausting day in the snow.
We will definitely come back.

About the host
Hosted by Sheri Birkmaier
This home is a family legacy. I have been going to the Tahoe Donner area since I was a small child where I have fond memories with my father and sister - downhill skiing, sledding, and riding snowmobiles. This property was built by my father in 1980 who was a State Farm Insurance agent in So. San Francisco for 33 years. Our home was one of the first properties built on our street. Upon his death, the property became a vacation home for the family and has significant sentimental value to us. Our home was fully remodeled to bring it up-to-date with the charming styles that mountain homes have to offer. We welcome our visitors and hope you enjoy our home as much as we do.
