This house is beautiful, The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to entertain. We had perfect weather and were able to enjoy the patio and walks down to the river. The location is private yet close enough to shopping and restaurant's. We would definitely go back !

The kitchen was great, well stocked and excellent appliances. The house is spacious and a lot of care went into the design and construction. Very good bed and cotton linens. The river is beautiful. We loved it.

Quiet getaway in the woods

Beautiful house in the woods with a path down to the Saco River. Pictures don’t lie. Loved by all of us including active seven year old and dog.

Serene retreat

Clean, contemporary, natural light and very comfortable. Quick to Portland for city experiences yet near to trails for quiet outdoor refuge. Very comfortable for 3 adults .

Maine Experience

Loved the place, very cool and unique. Loved sitting by the fire and walking to the river. Had everything we needed. Was off the beaten path but we really liked that. The owner was amazing and responded to any questions promptly. Had everything we needed for our family trip!

Some quirks to keep in mind…. The walk to the dock is a hike but we enjoyed it.. it is very dusty so if you have an allergy just beware.. listen to the property owner.. do not leave doors open or open the windows. The entire house stays at a comfortable temp! The shower is small.. and keep in mind there is no tub.. (my son missed that) the home is beautiful and equipped with all you need.. everything is about 15 mins away which we enjoyed being so far out in the woods.. bring bug spray! You will need it..

Not what we were hoping for.

Fantastic location, but as soon as we walked in were aware of an unpleasant odor. Sunroom had a heavy mold smell. cobwebs all over the ceiling (it was quite high, though). Found nasty mold growing over the entry door, and black mold in the sunroom. Contacted owner who claimed smell was from fireplace (We have and use our fireplace, it doesn't smell) Told him we couldn't stay there, he reluctantly refunded us our money. We have stayed in many VRBO properties and never had a bad experience before.

A Perfect Get Away

We had such a pleasurable stay at Stille Wasser! The house was very clean and comfortable. We found it to be quiet and very private. The dirt road to the house was not an issue at all. There were no challenging spots and I was never in fear of damaging my VW Jetta. The house was kept at a perfect temperature without us having to touch anything. We didn't use the grill, fireplace or firepit, but all were available and looked to be in excellent shape. Our Doberman really liked walking the many available trails in and around the property. There was plenty of natural light coming into the house, but not too much. We didn't use the canoe, but it was available as advertised. The trail down to the river was not bad at all. If we head back to Portland area, we'll definitely consider this property or any other that Barry has. He was responsive to our communications and his descriptions were on point. We had zero complaints. A lovely property. Thank you, Barry!

We adored our cabin in the woods - highly recommend!!

Stille Wasser is a gem. It's so cool and unique and SUCH an incredible location. The kitchen was wonderful - we cooked several dinners and breakfasts there. The house was also very well stocked. I was pleasantly surprised at having been provided coffee filters, paper towels, toilet paper, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, storage bags, salt and pepper, etc. We stayed during a heat wave of 95+ temps and the house remained cool and comfortable for us. We got river floats and spent some time floating off the dock on the river. The adjustable bed was very comfortable and we had plenty of towels and washcloths (even beach towels for the river). We also enjoyed the back patio, though we did need to clean off the blue cushions a bit. The hummingbirds came to visit us frequently. I loved how remote the cabin felt, but not far from food and groceries. It was also a very easy drive to Portland about 30-40 minutes away. We drove past Two Tides seafood several times so we stopped in for live lobsters and fresh fish and clams and made those in a large pot in the well equipped kitchen. We highly recommend "garage fish" haha from Two Tides - they are so friendly, the prices are so affordable and the seafood was out of this world. We didn't use the sunroom or the bunkroom, but we did eat at the dining room table quite a few nights and mornings. Oh and the knives were actually sharp!! My husband and I had no issues with the little entryway lip, and we felt the walk to river was easy.

Awesome, funky house, just needs a dusting

Our stay here, overall, was great! The home was a nice size, the bed/pillows were very comfortable, and the firmness is adjustable which I mustn’t have noticed in the property description, but WOW that was an awesome feature! I did wish there was a TV in the main bedroom for the afternoons we lazed around. I also wished the TV in the living area was larger because it was so far away, but that’s probably not an issue for people with better eyesight lol. The natural light was wonderful and the fireplace is beautiful! We tried to light a fire on our last night, but our wood was too damp which was sad lol, but it was a huge perk. The owner was communicative, so nice, and gave such clear instructions that we didn’t need to reach out once! He also had a Christmas tree set up/lit in the living area, as well as other holiday decor which was such a sweet touch!! While the stay was great, and the design is cool, the house is begging for a deep dusting/clean. The electric kettle had what looked like mold on the bottom, the coffee pot needed a deep scrub, the bathroom shower curtain had stains on it that were obviously there for some time, there was a shocking amount of cobwebs throughout the house, as well as a layer of dust in many parts of the home. The skylights in the living area didn’t work either which wasn’t a huge issue because of the lamps/natural light, but while staring up at them and trying to figure out if we were using the right light switch, we got a good view of cobwebs running from the beams in the house up to the ceiling, stretching to the map, and the beams above the main bedroom and more. It really was a beautiful house, and were those few things taken care of, it would be even better!

Positives - The setting was peaceful. The river was peaceful. House design & construction amazing. High end appliances. Negatives - photos are old & misleading. The written description misleading. The lighting was less than stellar, very dim...had to go out to Walmart and buy a reading lamp. The Glass Room was unusable due to strong musty odor. The TV was 9' high in the air. It took 7 hours to dry a medium size load of wash. We were not tempted to use the outdoor gas grill as it did not appear to be cleaned in a "long" time. The path way to the water was Steep! The path way to the the dock area was over grown and surrounding the dock was fallen limbs, trees & debris making it difficult to launch the kayak & inflatable boat which we did bring down the hill. Spent time cleaning up the debris in & out of the water around the dock. The aluminum canoe that was there did not look at all to be water worthy. Did not see the boat lift option. Bringing the kayak & inflatable back up the hill was not for the faint of heart. Regarding communication with the host, there was no response to an email that was sent to him asking if a "veteran's discount" available. There was no emergency contact information/telephone numbers to call should a plumbing, heating, electrical, etc. emergency event occur. ** Please call before posting feedback. Never have given any "feedback" before but felt compelled for this stay. We do have photos if needed. Thank you.
