This house is beautiful, The kitchen was well stocked with everything you need to entertain. We had perfect weather and were able to enjoy the patio and walks down to the river. The location is private yet close enough to shopping and restaurant's. We would definitely go back !
We enjoyed our stay at Stille Wasser. We loved sitting by the open fire in the incredible fireplace that is the center piece of the living room. The house is filled with unique thoughtful touches throughout and has a european flare to it, as you might guess from the name. The location is quiet and secluded as the title says (which is what we like) but still close to Old Orchard Beach and Portland. We went to Kennebunkport for the Christmas Prelude festival and enjoyed walking around the town and exploring the local shops. Barry was a great host and was responsive and friendly throughout.
We loved our time last year so much that we returned this summer. Both our dog and our child loved all the house and woods had to offer. We hope to return next year as well.
Beautiful, artistic home/cabin with modern touches in Maine! Stayed between Christmas and New Years and truly enjoyed the amenities and allowing our 2 dogs to accompany us. While it was cold and snowy/icy outside, the radiant flooring kept the house perfectly comfortable. The kitchen was well stocked for coffee, tea, and serving meals at the home. Beds were very clean and comfortable. The quiet and private setting in the woods with a peek of the Saco river, with the beautiful views outside the many windows was just what our family was looking for to relax and unwind from the holidays. It was awesome to feel so private and in nature but be a short drive to Portland and all it has to offer. Highly recommend this home and hope to stay again in the future.
The kitchen was great, well stocked and excellent appliances. The house is spacious and a lot of care went into the design and construction. Very good bed and cotton linens. The river is beautiful. We loved it.
Stille Wasser did not disappoint! The location is ideally situated in a private and quiet location, but within a short drive to local attractions and shops. The private floating docks offered relaxing afternoons and beautiful sunsets.

This is not a kid friendly house. This is because the flooring is uneven and also all concrete for the geothermal system. In addition, the home is built for a lot of natural lighting, but since it’s very deep in the woods, not a lot of lighting comes in… the host has put in lamps to try and offset this, but the house really needs more canned lights, or permanent light fixtures for the high ceilings and loft area to illuminate it better. Unfortunately, it had also rained for 2 days before we got there, so the ants had come inside… but there were also some long term cobwebs and spider residents that we didn’t really want to stay around... Lastly, there is also a very musty smell - I believe due to the geothermal system. Honestly, that in addition to everything else, had me and my family checking into a hotel instead of staying here for the duration of our trip. My kids are still little and I really just didn’t want them getting hurt if they happened to get up in the middle of the night. This is a very rustic home, and if you’re up for that, great! But if you have little kids, then I would recommend giving this place a closer look before booking. I know this review may not land well with the host, you can tell he really loves this property when speaking with him, but I still wanted to share for others so they don’t end up in a similar situation.

Very interesting review. First, the guest arrived after 3PM, and departed prior to 5:30PM the same day, on a sunny day. When sunset was around 8PM. So the comments about lighting? Interesting.
In actuality, there are night lights in the main bathroom, in the loft area, and tread lights on the stairs. Hardly a dangerous situation for kids. But the guest would not have known that.
The house, as advertised, is in the woods. An ant can happen, although I treat for them and they are rare. I was at the house immediately after they left and did not see any ants. If you look hard, you may find a spider web high in the cathedral ceiling, although we also work hard to keep them cleared. As the guest mentioned, it had rained for two days prior to their arrival, so the smells are from the woods.
I have had many families with kids at the house, and reviews are almost 100% five star.
As far as rustic goes, it is a timber frame home in the woods.
I won't get in to the details, but the reason for leaving on the day of arrival was completely different than as presented above, so I wonder about the motivation for leaving with no notice.
My brother & his family were very happy with their stay at your home. They were intrigued & very happy with the environmental aspects of the building. My brother called the setting “magical”!Thank you very much!
The property is absolutely beautiful. The house was welcoming and well kept. Even with a little guy, it was relaxing and rejuvenating. Being on the river was breath taking and made for some incredible sunset watching! We truly enjoyed our time and hope to visit again in the future!
It was clean, comfortable and very close to family where we spent most of the time for Thanksgiving. This a great place for a larger group, very pretty and open.
We felt very comfortable in this rental and made great memories. Tons of indoor and outdoor spaces on the property to enjoy! Would definitely stay here again.
Still Wasser is an excellent place to relax and get away from it all. Well appointed and very comfortable it has everything you need. Would highly recommend.
Our family of five really enjoyed our time out in the woods. The home is a unique labor of love with lots of interesting designs. The kids especially enjoyed the trail down to the dock. I loved all the fireflies in the evening. The house is stocked with everything you could need and an abundance of towels and bedding. This place was convenient for our baseball tournament in the Old Orchard Beach area.
