We found Kobuk's Stall to be a great place for our activities in Girdwood. The king size bed was comfortable, it was quiet and clean, and a great place to stage ourselves. We ate out every morning and night (Double Musky is directly across the road!), but were able to easily warm up leftovers for lunch in the kitchenette. The hosts live on the property so if you need anything (we didn't), they're right next door. If you book directly with them is it much cheaper than VRBO. We would stay here again.
We enjoyed our stay and everything was nice and clean. Would recommend to anyone wanting to stay in Girdwood.I would lime to add great communication from host as well.
This was the perfect place to spend the night before hitting the mountain for a little skiing. It was super quiet and cozy. The bed was very comfortable and the hot tub looked very nice, although we didn’t have the time to use it. I would definitely stay here again. Thank you for such a wonderful stay.
The cabin is exactly as advertised. Very clean and quiet. The bed is comfy not to soft not to hard. The restaurant across the road is super convenient after a long day on the road. We loved the area and even got to watch a bore tide. We would stay here again if in the area.

I booked this accommodation based on the photos and description showing a large dining area and a spectacular view.
Upon arrival, I noticed that the cabin and facilities do not match what was advertised.
I am requesting a partial refund or compensation due to misleading advertising and the service not matching the description.

Excellent
The Kobuk room and its amenities exceeded our expectations. We normally stay at the hotel but never again. The room was clean and comfortable and roomier than we expected. Hot tub was the perfect temperature and slippers and towels were all provided...we'll be back!!

We look forward to hosting you again! Kobuk's Stall is a 350 square foot efficiency cottage designed with all the comforts of home along with the luxuries of being away
We are Alaskan residents that never stop working. This was a much needed retreat. This cozy cottage has all amenities available, even an electric skillet which i needed to make breakfast. This is a peaceful, clean, and comfortable place. The hot tub was clean and refreshing with the chilly air. We will definitely return! Hosts were very helpful.

Thank you. This Cottage is an efficiency with a kitchenette, offering a few basic kitchen amenities to make your stay convenient.
My husband and I just stayed here for a quick “honeymoon” night after we got married and to say it was perfect just doesn’t cut it. Within walking distance to downtown girdwood, we had dinner at double musky across the street, coffee at the grind table n the morning, and of course lounged in the hot tub. It was just amazing, thank you so so much!

Wonderful!
My Husband and I so enjoyed staying here. We stayed in Kobuk's Stall. Very comfortable and cozy and beautiful woodwork. Great location too. Easy drive or walk to many of Girwoods restaurants or hiking spots. Rachel and her husband were wonderful hosts. While breakfast was not included, for a small fee Rachel invited us to join others in the main house. Her breakfasts were amazing. We would definitely stay here again!

Thank you! This cottage is one of 3 cottages and a Lodge/B&B, a small Boutique property called Carriage House Accommodations. In the Summer breakfast is available to be added in the amazing great room of the main Lodge.
My wife and I came down from the valley to get away to the Alyeska Nordic Spa. I wanted something outside of Alyeska and found the Carriage house to be the perfect place! It was perfect to include the added hot tub. The house rules were clear and easily explained. The heated floors were a really nice touch as well. We will be back for our next get-away. :-) Thank you for your hospitality

Clean and comfortable!
The owners were very friendly and accommodating. They take very good care of their units and property, and it shows. We only stayed one night, but enjoyed our time. The unit (Kobuk's Stall) was incredibly clean and well kept, with a super comfy bed. It's the perfect size for one or two people, or those traveling with one small child. We enjoyed the hot tub in the gazebo with views of the mountains. This is a separate unit on the ground level of a bigger property. We were fortunate that those staying in the other two units were not loud (didn't even hear them) but, if you're traveling with an infant or small child, or if you're a light sleeper...consider booking the upstairs unit just in case you get some folks who aren't as quiet. This unit is in walking distance of the Double Musky restaurant (across the street) and "downtown" girdwood. Maybe a 5 or 10 minute walk to the other restaurants, Mercantile, clinic, etc. Great quiet location, but in close proximity to amenities. Would definitely book with Rachel and her husband (the owners) again!

Carriage House Accommodations offers 3 private Cottages, that are part of one Chalet, with super sound insulation, and no units share walls, as we maintain the 4th unit, so our guests shouldn't hear other guests. CHA also offers B&B guests rooms in the main lodge, each with a private en-suite bath and access to guest common areas with a kitchen, living and dining room. All this on a private 2 acre forested property, just on the edge of town for easy walking.
While I have been here in summer, winter was just as good. Great skiing, great post ski trips and sight seeing.

About the host
Hosted by Rachel Hatcher
Rachel Hatcher, the last of 7 girls, grew up on a family farm in West Jupiter, Florida, where along with her sisters raised and trained horses and cattle, and showed through the 4-H program. She attended Florida Atlantic University and graduated with a bachelor of Finance with a minor in Accounting . After working in Public Accounting for several years, she realized sitting behind a desk was not her cup of tea. She met Jake in 1991 and soon after took a long sabbatical to travel Australia and New Zealand by bicycle, which opened her eyes beyond the corporate ladder and and eventually brought her to Alaska in 1994
Jake Thompson, grew up in the Panama Canal Zone, and spent many summers in Sabula, Iowa where his mother’s side of the family is from. Jake is the 3rd generation from Panama with grandparents that went to work on the Panama Canal in 1905. A few years after graduating High School, Jake came to the States and lived in Tallahassee, Florida where he played Rugby and pursued a trade education. Jake ended up in the construction field and his love of woodworking led to the desire to build timber frame homes, and the Carriage House Accommodations is a fine example of his work.
Why they chose this property
The Carriage House Estate, acquired in 1996, includes two homes built by your host Jake Thompson on 2 landscaped and wooded acres along California Creek, with great views of the surrounding mountains and forest. The main home/lodge, a 4,500 square foot custom timber frame with massive beams, river rock fireplace and beautiful craftsmanship throughout, has operated as a Bed & Breakfast since 1999 and is now offering space for small events. The Chalet, an 1,860 square foot timber frame Barn, originally built in 2005 to be used by owner Jake Thompson as his wood shop and stalls for the two Percheron draft horses, Kobuk & Tecumseh “the boys” used in the Carriage business, with a hayloft above. In 2010 the boys were retired, and in the years following renovations began on their barn, sanding all the beautiful Douglas Fir timbers and enclosing the stall areas. The transformation was amazing and the 3 new private units are all nicely appointed craftsman style luxury.
What makes this property unique
The Carriage House Chalet is nested in the spruce and hemlock trees on 2 acres, along California Creek with great views of Alyeska and Max's mountain. Located on the edge of the Girdwood townsquare, within easy walking distance to many restaurants (directly across from the Double Musky Restaurant), and shops and only 1 mile to Alyeska Ski Resort. Numerous trails can be accessed right out the door in the Chugach State and National Forests that surround this property.
