About this property

The Taiga House - inspiring mountain views at the edge of Denali National Park

Back on the market after taking 2 years off to rent out yearly.

The Taiga House is located in the forest just north of Denali National Park. Once a spacious B&B known as "The Grand View" it has been remade into a family home with two vacation rentals. Our three bedroom, second floor residence is attached, yet private, with an entrance and yard of it's own, amazing views of the local mountains scenery and abundant charm. It sleeps six, with 2 queen beds and a daybed with trundle bed under, full bath, spacious living room/dining and fully equipped kitchen plus a washer/dryer.
There is a bar-b-que grill, picnic table, fire pit and amazing wilderness just outside the door.
There are restaurants, a brew pub, and a full grocery stores just a ten minute walk down the trail, or a two minute drive away, and many more restaurants, bars and shops twelve miles south in the bustling tourist zone known as Glitter Gulch outside the entrance to Denali Park.

Perfect Stay

We loved the proximity of the house to the park! We really enjoyed our stay. The house was super clean and comfy. We loved the views out of the window and loved playing with the dogs. We grilled out one night. The kitchen was to stocked with everything we needed. We had a nice hot shower too which was nice.

Great place to stay for a visit to Denali

My husband and I and my brother in law and sister in law spent 3 nights at the Taiga House while we visited Denali. The house was clean and comfortable, well appointed, with a great view. The hosts were responsive. We were very happy with our stay.

Easy to book great communication

We booked last minutes while traveling in Alaska and an unexpected flight changed forced a sudden cancellation. The hosts were quick to respond and generous with their policy. Will definitely stay with them when we return and can get to the Denali area.

Wonderful Place

We throughly enjoyed our stay. Accommodations were great and the hosts excellent. One morning we saw a moose out the back window. The location is excellent. Very close to Denali Park.

Beautiful setting

Wonderful stay! Owners are so nice and friendly. View and setting are wonderful! Cabin is well stocked. Nice peaceful trail behind the place too! We also loved the friendly dogs.

Great lication

We were fortunate enough to be able to rent the studio apartment as well as the three bedroom one bath house. This combination was perfect for our group of eight which consisted of three couples and two single adults. The houses were great and had everything we needed. We especially appreciated them, leaving us spare spray. We were also appreciative That we didn't need to use the bear spray The houses were close to many Denali activities and we had a wonderful time there.

What an absolutely wonderful place to stay. Great quiet location convenient to Denali Park. House was very nice and comfortable for our group of 5. Clean with all amenities needed. And what a stunning view out the windows! Would absolutely stay there again.

We agree with all of the previous lauditory reviews, and would only add that we were very impressed with the high quality selection of kitchen knives. It added to the delight of preparing our meals and enjoying them with stellar mountain views.

Great place, friendly hosts

The Taiga house is exactly as advertised and the backyard was a huge bonus. Comfortable house with a kitchen that made it easy to cook a few meals. Great access to Denali. Near grocery store and (underwhelming yet popular) brewery. Bedrooms have the best blackout curtains I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately the park was closed while we were in town but there is a 4 mile hike right out the back of the property that was fun for the family.

Pretty dope for one bath.

Really great. House was clean and easy. The dogs were super nice, cute, and fun. Only challenge was 1 bathroom for 6 people but the ad was accurate and we knew it going in. Still we had a great time and I would give high marks all around.

Wonderful stay near Denali!

The Taiga house was perfect for our family’s visit to Alaska. Lovely view, comfortable stay, they had everything we needed. We were so happy to have this be our home base for adventures in Denali. Close to park and very close to grocery store. Thanks so much to the owners for everything, this is a top notch rental!! Highly recommend!!

Amazing vacation spot! SO clean!

We picked this location due to the great reviews, so our expectations were high- and the Taiga house exceeded them! This property was SO clean, well appointed, and had thoughtful extra touches! I definitely recommend using this as a home base for your Denali travels. My husband, myself, and our adult daughter and son in law loved it. We wished we had more time! The view was amazing and we were super comfortable. Thanks for a great end to our Alaskan adventure!

Everything about our stay was excellent - beautiful views, lovely apartment, well appointed kitchen, convenient washer/dryer. Friendly & knowledgeable owners. Nice country atmosphere with a neighborly moose who visits occasionally. Large market & great brewery are close by.

Fabulous Find!

We loved our time at The Taiga House, the pictures don't do it justice! Todd warmly greeted us and told us about the property, including a trail we could walk on the property, which we did and was a lovely hour walk into the spruce trees. You enter the space on the ground floor where there is the washer/dryer and place for putting on shoes. Bear spray and bug spray were provided for walks on the property. To get into the apartment, you climb a set of stairs (although there was a wheelchair lift, we didn't need it but ask if you might!) The kitchen had very nice high-end appliances! There were six chairs for the table which had a great view of the mountains. Plenty of comfortable seating in the living area. There were fans in the closet for the bedrooms, which we did use because it was warm when we were in Denali. The room darkening blinds were effective and the beds were comfortable! I highly recommend a stay at the Taiga House! It was perfect for our family of five.

The place was clean, modern, well equipped and best of all, the view from the great room was beautiful! It is about 15 minutes from Denali National Park. The host was friendly and knows a lot about the area. It can be a little challenging to find the first time, but it’s only a couple minutes from the main road in Healy which has a couple restaurants,

Perfect!

We had a great time. The view was incredible, the grounds laced with trails, and The Taiga house was spotlessly clean and comfortable. Many extras , such as laundry detergent etc. were included which was very thoughtful. Todd answered our every question. We wish we could have stayed longer! Thank you!

Amazing Rental!

This is about 10 minutes from Denali with an awesome view of the mountains. Our hosts seemed to think ahead to provide those extras that were so nice- coffee, nice coffee pot, nice appliances, & plenty of space to put our stuff. They were there on property & welcomed us & asked if there was anything we needed. I definitely recommend this property!!!!

Amazing Views

Julie & Todd were excellent host and very friendly. The house was super clean and had everything we needed. We were 4 adults family and friends and we slept comfortably. The property is conveniently located to Denali National Park, about 15 minutes away. The house has amazing views of the mountains, so beautiful! And we were visited by a Mama Moose and Baby! Great place to stay while visiting Denali

After mounting the stairs and opening the door, you are greeted by a most glorious view. This apartment is beautifully furnished with high quality items. If you are exploring this part of Alaska, I highly recommend staying at Taiga house.

Relaxing in Healy

We needed a break from our 2 months long road trip accross Canada and Alaska and Julie and Todd's place was perfect! We enjoyed the Taiga house and going out for dinner at the 49th state!

The Taiga House is owned by Todd and Julie Shorey. Todd travelled to Alaska in 1986 and discovered the wonders of Denali National Park and the warmth of the people of the Interior, and never left. He has worked as a tour guide in the summer sun, and a carpenter on many Denali projects through out the winter months. Julie is a life long Alaskan, who grew up just down the road in Cantwell. Our family enjoys salmon fishing, hiking in Denali, picking and eating the seasonal berries, and the winter sports of ice hockey and skiing. Life is good for us here in Healy, and we look forward to sharing our mountain view home with you, and our knowledge of the Alaskan Interior.

Why they chose this property

Our family purchased this house and six acres of property in 2011 as we moved north from McKinley Village, and instantly fell in love with the open landscape that flows from the south door to the Mountains of Denali Park. As a family we have worked together to create a home, as well as guest spaces for visitors to enjoy. We are sure you'll agree that our location is ideal for your once in a lifetime Alaskan experience.

What makes this property unique

Our rental has wonderful mountain views and instant wilderness access, while still being at the edge of town. It is a great home base for your adventures into Denali, a wonderful location to take a morning trail walk with a cup of coffee, and an inviting space to simply relax and enjoy the view.
