This quaint home was built in 1953 and we have designed it as a quiet getaway spot for our family and guests. The Killian family has ties to the local history and FDR in Warm Springs. Now we are opening it up for others to enjoy.
We want to thank our guests for making a breakout year at the Killian House. We had a visit from Sam Killian III the son of the builders of the house. We had a writing group with published authors, three wedding parties, families of graduates, history buffs, and just great people.
The house is 1900 sq/ft and sits on a secluded 1.5 acre wooded lot on top of a hill above Warm Springs GA. We have seen deer, fox, and the always entertaining squirrels on the property. The tree surrounded lot is perfect for star gazing.
Common Areas
Cozy new furniture fills the rooms for long conversations or napping. The dining room seats 8 for candlelit dinners. The Den table is ready for snacks, games, and puzzles. Sit on the front porch with your morning coffee and watch the sun come up. The outdoor grill can prepare a large meal or just use the fire pit to roast marshmallows. Grab a snack and head to the back porch to talk and laugh as the sun sets. Killian House Retreat is the perfect quiet place to finish that research paper, spend time with family, work projects, girl's weekend, or wedding parties. There is room for private small retreats for work, school, or church.
Kitchen
The 50's style kitchen is newly updated but reminds your of Grandmother in her favorite spot. Bake your own cookies or have wine from the local winery with cheese to relax in comfort.
Entertainment
We have chosen not to have a TV in the Killian House Retreat. We use the house as a place to unplug, rejuvenate, and renew communications with each other. However, there is killer wifi with easy access all over the house. We created a blank wall and provided an easy to use video projector and speakers to experience that special movie, game, or cat video together.
Surrounding Activities
We are 15/20 minutes from Calloway Gardens. Many adventures await such as: Christmas Fantasy in Lights, golf, hiking, Gardens, Water ski events, Lakefront beach, Butterfly Gardens, and Treetop challenge course, biking, canoeing, and live raptor shows.
FDR's Little White House is 1 minute away just down the hill. The historic pools that helped FDR refocus his life and body before his political career are at the bottom of the hill below his house.
Take a tour of the Warm Springs Winery. The featured local wines are made from Scuppernong and Muscadine grapes. Taste the unique pepper infused "Hotlanta" wine.
The Roosevelt State park borders the property. There are over 40 miles of trails in the park. Many trails lead to waterfalls along the hike. Beginners to advanced hikers will enjoy the trails. The Liberty Bell Pool is a great place for a day of swimming after hitting the trails. Antique shopping is abundant in Warm Springs and the many surrounding small towns. Being further from a large city the "finds" are plentiful.
Restaurants abound in the local area. While we lost our historic Bullock House building, the owners have reopened in an historic downtown building. The food is just as good and the genuine welcoming nature of Warm Springs is still alive. Mac's Bar B Que is perfect southern fare. The Gardens Restaurant at Calloway makes for a beautiful night out. Only 30 minutes away is the riverfront in Columbus GA which offers 5 great restaurants along the beautifully restored walking park.
