Pineapple Cottage enjoys a 5-star rating. Enjoy peace and quiet overlooking a private gulch and stream with a bit of with ocean view. Pineapple Cottage offers hardwood floors, shaker cabinets, granite countertops, newly purchased leather sofa, and a covered lanai with a BBQ overlooking a ravine with a running stream. There are two bedrooms with a king bed in the master and queen bed in smaller bedroom. We are located on 2.5 acres, the property is always a work in progress with fruit trees and tropical plants, (if you are looking for a party rental, this is not it.) This is also a non-smoking unit, but you can smoke on the deck. We do have washer and dryer, internet, wifi, basic cable & apple tv.
We are located 10 minutes to world famous Hookipa Beach, known for its surfing, windsurfing, and kiteboarding. Visit Paia town only 15 minutes away, a fun old plantation town that has unique boutique shops, galleries and restaurants (some of our favorites are Café des Amis for crepes, Paia Fish Market for fish burgers & tacos, Flatbread for pizza, Milagros for a good margarita!) Paia has Mana Foods, our favorite health food store. Baldwin Beach is one of my favorite places for a morning walk on the beach. We are 25 minutes from the Kahului airport. Makawao Town is 15 minutes away, another fun town (an old "Paniolo" or cowboy town) with unique shops and galleries. Our own Haiku Town has a several restaurants, Colleen's offers pizza and great pasta & burgers, Veg Out is great for vegan & vegetarian "to go" grinds, and Nuka's for a delightful Sushi experience, an island favorite. Haiku also has food trucks that are popular for lunch or take out from Greek food, two local grocery stores and even 2 hardware stores! Pineapple Cottage is loved and adored by our guest from rock stars, international models, honeymooners, and explorers looking for a quiet and natural getaway. A step back into old Hawaii. The Pineapple Cottage is a well-appointed and peaceful place to stay with a lanai looking out into lush greenery and the ocean in the distance. Steve and Ivy were welcoming and available as needed. The location is away from the touristy areas and not far from great beaches. Mahalo for a great stay!
We loved Pineapple Cottage. We are two type A personalty clean freaks and were in awe on how clean the entire house inside and out were. Steve and Ivy are very welcoming and have everything you need. They left fruit, snacks, chocolate, coffee and wine for us. Ivy’s banana bread with our morning coffee was the best way to start our day. We highly recommend Pineapple Cottage for a peaceful Hawaiian vacation.
An ideal location for a family stay. Felt like staying at a family cottage. Everything you could need/want was available, property was gorgeous and comfortable, and hosts we're exceptionally welcoming. We loved it.

We stayed at Pineapple Cottage a little over two weeks. It was the perfect place for us. Close to Paia yet remote enough to be away from the hustle. Ivy was so great about responding to any questions or request. We will def be back!

Pineapple Cottage is probably the loveliest property we've ever rented. Ivy and Steve were friendly and accommodating but not intrusive, and the location was perfect for exploring places like Haleakala and the road to Hana. Haiku is a great town with friendly nontouristy restaurants and a market that served us well. The cottage is lovingly cared for and the view from the lanai is better than in the pictures. We wanted to take a gecko or two home but left them to greet the next guests!
Everything was perfect. Steve and Ivy are great hosts! We had so much fun with Mia and Odi their dogs and meeting the Aussie puppy.
So clean, organized, tastefully and thoughtfully furnished. Kitchen dishes and other supplies had the host's thoughtful touch. Bed was comfortable. Great breeze for sleeping. The porch is magical, private and the birds, sounds of the trees and stream and there is even a view of the ocean. We hope to return for another stay.

Aloha Kathy and David. You guys were amazing guest. I love your go for it attitude biking all over the island. Thanks for playing with the pups they love it. Hope to see you both again soon. Steve & Ivy
The cottage is situated on beautiful grounds in the quiet country side of Haiku with Hookipa and Paia a short drive away. The deck was just the most beautiful and peaceful place to relax. It had a view of the ocean and was situated right on the edge a beautiful ravine filled with native plants and trees with a stream running through the bottom. While the stream was barely visible through the trees, the sound of the rushing water was very nice. While too steep to climb down, the ravine opened up a great vista of the natural world. A variety of plants and a banana tree formed a natural barrier between the yard and the ravine. The hosts live on the property farther down the large property and were readily available if needed but totally unobtrusive. It was obvious they take great care and pride in their property.

Absolutely perfect, clean and refurbished!
A long overdue review that only gets our best recommendations! The cottage is superb for a family of four.
We arrived to a very well equipped, super clean and nice cottage in the middle of the night. We were welcomed by the best banana bread in all of Maui, and some nice coffee and chocolates.
The cottage delivers everything it promises. Inside and out. From cleanliness to lovely surrounding. We didn't miss a thing that we where expecting. (Washing Machine and tumbler, Wifi, TV, Dish washer, perfectly equipped kitchen, lots of towels and linen)
It's a perfect place to stay, if you want to explore the entire island of Maui. From the road to Hana, The North Shore, The top of Haleakala, the fanastic town of Paia. to the more resortlike western shores. All within a 40 min drive.
We've been travelling with kids all over the world but concluded that despite being a 24hour flight away, it was so worth it and we love to do it again. We stayed for 2 weeks and absolutely loved every minute of it. Can really recommend staying at Steve and Ivy's lovely place. Thank you for everything!
My highest recommendations!

The Pinnapple Cottage is a special place with very special hosts. Ivy and Steve were awesome hosts with an awesome, impeccable, pristine property .We were treated like family . From homemade treats made by Ivy and special wine and goodies left for us , to the special recommendations by Steve , and the beautiful island art created by Ivy on every wall, it all filled our body and spirit. From the moments we entered the long tropical driveway we both felt an immediate sense of beauty and peace . Having stayed a month we had everything we could possibly need and more for us and our grown kids and grandaughter,. We had beach towels, chairs, boogie boards, toys and much personal attention from the whole Nikens family including their sweet animal members , as well as many recommendation for outings, endeavors and eats. We made fresh juice from the oranges and grapefruits picked by Ivy and Steve , and watched with joy as our grandaughter picked fresh bananas outside the Lanai. We spent much time on the lanai over looking the creek which had lots of water and gorgeous trees with sunsets . We had many evening dinners outside on the lanai with the sky filled with very bright stars . We enjoyed many beaches , waterfalls and upcountry outings and hikes. This location alllows for so much diversity of endeavors and retreat .There is so much more we could say but we shall keep our stories close to our hearts and plan to come back again.. Mahalo to Ivy and Steve

One Word ... Relaxation
The Pineapple Cottage is the perfect house for a family vacation in Maui. It was our first vacation that involved flying (we have a three and half and one year old) and we were so looking forward to some quality relaxing times together. We wanted a house as well so we don’t disturb neighbors with little running feet. Steve and Ivy were the best hosts and really made us feel welcomed with Ivy’s own homemade banana nut bread, jam, chocolate covered macadamia nuts, and offered many tips on where to visit. Duke (their dog) was a huge hit as well as my son loved playing catch with him. We were impressed to find out that Steve and Ivy pretty much built both their house and the guest house themselves…good energy all around. The drive up to the house itself is very beautiful and you really do get the feeling of being alone in paradise, yet within a few minutes of being able to drive to a restaurant or store.
One of our favorite features of the property is how quiet it is. The property is set back from the main road and you do not hear nothing except for nature. In the evenings we could hear the gulch with fresh water running and in the mornings an assortment of birds to wake us up gently. Navigating from the bedroom to the beautiful kitchen really was amazing as there are tons of light from the windows and all you see is Maui’s beautiful lush green landscape. We spent many mornings making breakfast and sitting out on the beautiful deck (lanai) that overlooked the gulch. The other favorite feature are all of the lush grounds and fresh fruit just waiting to be picked.
The location of the property is great as well as in Haiku there are a few options for restaurants and a grocery store where we picked up supplies. It is about a 10 minute drive down to the beach and we spent a few mornings right at sunrise exploring Hookipa Beach Park as well as looking for turtles in the evenings. In the evenings when driving in after dark, it was very magic to just see tons of huge palm trees lit up from the headlights...hard to explain unless you experience it yourself, but feel like you are going to a magical spot. We pretty much drove all over the island (spent a few nights in Lahaina) and at the end of the day knowing our beautiful home was waiting for us made each day perfect.
We can’t wait to return and whenever we drive by the airport, my son asks “Are we going to our Maui house?”

We loved our time at the Pineapple Cottage! Steve & Ivy were awesome hosts, and our kids loved playing with their dogs. The house has great views, and waking up to the sound of the stream in the gulch below was so great. Haiku is lovely and off the beaten path. We'll definitely be staying here when we're in Maui next.

Perfect island hideaway with amazing views!
Pineapple cottage exceeded my expectations by a mile! It is gorgeous, immaculately clean, newly remodeled, and has a huge lanai with views that will take your breath away. I loved being away from the touristy part of the island and felt like I was getting a truly unique experience staying in Haiku. My sister and I swam daily at Baby Beach, which is just a short drive away. Another favorite was hanging out in nearby Paia, a funky beach town right around the corner. I would recommend Pineapple Cottage to anyone heading to Maui. Steve and Ivy are wonderful hosts and we arrived to fresh baked banana bread, chocolates and coffee. Their sweet dogs were also there to greet us and make sure we were safe. Overall, an experience I’ll never forget!

Perfect island hideaway for the perfect island getaway
Stop searching for another rental. This is where you want to stay! Ivy and Steve have created a delightful home for their guests' enjoyment and you won't want to miss out. The cottage is cozy, comfortable, quiet, beautifully decorated and situated amidst luscious greenery with a view of the beautiful blue Pacific. You'll wake up rested after sleeping in one of the comfy beds. Whip up breakfast in the fully equipped kitchen or just ease into the day with coffee on the lanai. And you will LOVE Ivy's homemade banana bread! You'll make friends with Duke (always ready to fetch a ball) and Mia (always looking to hang out with visitors). After a day exploring the island or lounging on a beach, wash away your cares in the great shower. Plenty of restaurants and bars are within a short distance and filled with friendly locals eager to share the aloha spirit. Return to the charming Pineapple Cottage and drift to sleep with the lullaby of the bubbling brook just outside. Maui doesn't get any more perfect than this!

a slice of home (deliciously far) away from home
my husband (a wildlife biologist and surfer), son (16-months, walking/running everywhere, getting into everything), and i spent a delicious week at pineapple cottage. we used it as home base to explore the north side of maui. as soon as we walked in to the cottage, we felt a deep sigh of relief, and as we looked around, we agreed: WE SCORED! pineapple cottage was spotlessly clean, effortless, comfortable, and had all the home-like things you want while traveling (if you're that type of traveler). a large supply of towels, a fantastic shower, a beautiful and very cookable kitchen, a handful of staples (olive oil, salt & pepper), great fiestaware dishes, etc.
steve and ivy set us up with their much-talked about banana bread (oh my god), a bag of maui coffee (woot!) and a box of local chocolates, plus a priceless list of their favorite spots. they always replied promptly to any questions we had, and when we finally met them, we thought: oh right, this is why this place feels like home.
not to mention, the house was great for our 16-month-old son, especially the back deck which was fenced in with a railing with rails close enough together, and no splinters in the deck, so that it became a giant play room for him. and then became the perfect spot for our happy hours.
finally, sleeping was such a treat (despite 16-month old): we left the windows open and loved the sound of banana leaves and the river down below. we miss it, but will be back.
(ps - i hate to write such a good review for fear we'll never again be able to stay at this sweet little spot! of course, it might be our friends filling it up as we've already passed along the info to so many.)

Fantastic
The four of us agree - this is including two young teens: the cottage was wonderful, the local atmosphere was heaven, and Maui's highlights were impressive incl. views, beaches, rainforest, volcano, and meals.
Our stay in Pineapple Cottage was perfect for the four of us, nature lovers and keen explorers of places. This is a wonderful house with very inviting interior, nice bathroom, complete kitchen (we liked to cook/bbq every second night), and a gorgeous veranda - easy to feel comfy, a home away from home. From here we visited the whole island and were more than happy to come to Pineapple Cottage afterwards.
Ivy and Steve are incredibly welcoming hosts - not only because of their delicious banana bread but also for their best tipps and for being available and supportive if needed. We loved to have their dogs in reach for our son while nicely kept in their areas; they do not bother at all.

A tranquil spot with lush landscaping hidden away...
The cottage is lovely and the location worked well for our stay on Maui...close to family who live just up the road. A tranquil spot with lush landscaping hidden away from surrounding residences, yet just a few miles from the town of Haiku and the beaches. Beautiful finishes on the interior with everything we needed for a two week getaway.

The perfect getaway basecamp
This is the place to go if you want to really have some solitude with all the amenities of home. Ivy and Steve were fantastic at giving a great idea of local areas to visit and things to see. We arrived to very nice care package of local coffee, chocolates and and a homemade banana bread to die for!
The beautiful grounds are lush and filled with seasonal fruit and nothing is nicer than waking up to the sound of a running stream in your back yard.
If we return to Maui anytime soon we will definitely be looking to stay here again.
We had a great experience overall! Thank you Steve and Ivy!

Comfortable getaway with spectacular view
I can't say enough good things about this place! From the beautiful view from the lanai, comfortable rooms, well equipped kitchen and immaculate bathroom, to the gracious and accommodating hosts. My three year old daughter loved playing in the garden; the banana trees were a big hit (we also loved being greeted by fresh baked banana bread!).
The immediate area was fun to explore, we often drove to Paia for the beach and lunch, and Makawao for a little hike and a coffee. The Waihou spring trail is a fun outing for little ones.
Hope to be back!

About the host
Hosted by Steven & Ivy Nickens
My Name is Steven and Maui has been my home for over 50 years, my real job is selling real estate, surfing and windsurfing in my spare time . Ivy my lovely wife Ivy is an artist, born and raised on Maui. Together we raised four kids, and have four granddaughters, and one grandson. 1990 we bought and developed this property with the help of our kids. We love working in the yard, so we planted all our favorite fruit, and ornamental trees. I love that I can jump in the surf 10 minutes away at Hookipa for a morning surf session before my day begins. Twelve years ago we built the cottage. On this 2.5 acre parcel, we planted citrus, avocado's, papaya's, and bananas. We love living here, it's so peaceful and private. In the morning you hear the birds singing. Anyway this is our home and we love living here, and hope you will to. Mia and Odie our dogs will greet you upon arrival then go home. They are very friendly our guest love them. You will enjoy the privacy, our guest love staying in our little hideaway.
Why they chose this property
Having lived in Haiku for years, we had an opportunity to purchase this property in 1989. We loved the location for perfect weather in Haiku, close to Haiku town, and easy access to restaurants, shopping and close to Hookipa Beach Park. Pineapple Cottage is the perfect location for a Hawaiian getaway. What I really like is driving pass the hustle and bustle in Paia, driving pass Mana's Fishouse, and I love the drive pass Hookipa Beach Park. Driving up Haiku road, it is a beautiful drive heading up to our property. When you arrive at the Pineapple Cottage you drive into a private flag lot road, unto our exquisite estate. It really has the feeling of old Hawaii, kick back and enjoin your visit.
What makes this property unique
What people say about our home, is that it feels like an tropical estate, with so many beautiful trees, and that you can walk on the property it's very peaceful. I also like listening to the stream when it's raining. Haiku is very tropical, we do get rain, but the temperature is not to hot, not to cold. You also are surrounded by vegetation creating beauty, singing birds, deer barking at night, and privacy. House Rules- Quiet after 9 pm, No smoking but on the deck it is allowed, No pets, Please remove slippers, not a party house very quiet neighborhood. Check in time 2pm, Check out 10 am.
