Getaway Cottage in Park-like Setting with River Views. Canal Towpath Nearby.
Your very own, completely private, Colonial Williamsburg-style Cottage near the Bucks County town of Yardley, Pennsylvania, right on the Delaware River. The Cottage is just 13 miles south of New Hope and Lambertville and 25 minutes from Princeton. New York City is a little over an hour away by train (Amtrak or New Jersey Transit to Trenton). Philadelphia is about 30 minutes by car, or you can take a SEPTA commuter train from Yardley.
The Cottage shares a 3.3-acre riverfront property with our 200-year-old farmhouse. Built by Robert Johnson, a renowned Bucks County cabinetmaker, and furnished with 18th-century reproduction furniture and Oriental rugs, it's ideal for weekend getaways, week-long vacations, writer's retreats, and house-hunting visits. As many of our guests have said, this is the perfect place to unwind.
The Cottage living space (750 square feet, all on one floor) is quite comfortable for two people. But it also works for a family with one child, or for three close friends who don't mind sharing a bathroom. Because the rooms are small and the floor plan is a bit unusual (you walk through the bathroom to get to the bedroom), we suggest that you contact us first if you're considering reserving the Cottage for three adults, or for two adults and a teenager.
There's a wonderful corner fireplace in the living room with raised paneling and a custom-built mantel. The eat-in kitchen is small, but quite serviceable. We've equipped it with everything our guests need to make basic meals and snacks.
The main bedroom is furnished with a queen-size canopy bed. The "Tavern Room" off the kitchen provides a twin bed for extra sleeping space. (We don't call this a bedroom because it doesn't have doors or a closet. For a bit of privacy, there are blackout curtains at each of the two doorways, and blackout shades at the windows.) We also have a portable Graco crib and child's booster seat that we can have set up and ready for those traveling with an infant or toddler.
THINGS TO DO...
• Visit historic sites such as the Washington Crossing Museum, the Old Barracks in Trenton, and Pennsbury Manor, William Penn's reconstructed home and farm.
• There are lots of award-winning restaurants in historic buildings up and down the river and canal. Most encourage you to bring your own wine or spirits.
• Local farms let you "pick-your-own" berries and apples, and of course, fresh sweet corn, tomatoes, and other home-grown veggies are available from local farm stands, in season. You can kayak, fish, or boat on the Delaware River. (An absolutely fantastic fresh fish market is just a mile down the road. They will gut and filet your choice while you wait.)
• Princeton, the Princeton battlefield, Nassau Hall, and other sites are only minutes away. (Don't miss the Princeton University Art Museum -- a truly impressive collection, wonderfully presented -- and the University Chapel with its magnificent stained glass windows.)
• For a more kid-friendly experience, Sesame Place is just 10 minutes away. Or you can rent a rowboat, kayak, or paddleboat at Core Creek Park and enjoy the natural surroundings of Lake Luxembourg. If you're feeling especially adventurous, drive north about 45 minutes to Point Pleasant and 'River Country' for tubing, canoeing, kayaking, and rafting. (The company's buses pick you up at the down-river destination and drive you back to your car.)
• For woodland walks and non-stressful hiking, there is Tyler Park in Newtown and the Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve on River Road just south of New Hope.
• And speaking of New Hope, it's a great place to stroll and to 'people-watch.' But you can also take in a show at the acclaimed Bucks County Playhouse, or catch a ride into the countryside aboard the New Hope-Ivyland Railroad, a classic steam locomotive.
• And don't miss Lambertville, the town directly across the river from New Hope. Art galleries, antique shops, great restaurants, the Golden Nugget flea market just down the road... Lambertville is well worth the walk across the New Hope-Lambertville bridge.

Fantastic Getaway!
Had a great time at The Cottage with my wife and toddler. Everything you need and more was provided by owners to make trip stress free and very enjoyable. Beautiful property and house in close proximity to many restaurants and historic sites. Would highly recommend to any family looking for a getaway in the area!
We had a fabulous time at the cottage -was in a great location and such a cute place. Emily and Alfred were perfect hosts. We will hopefully go back again sooner than later.
A perfect place to spend a fall weekend to celebrate our anniversary. The cottage is spotless and charming, the hosts warm and considerate. Would highly recommend to anyone looking to explore Bucks County!
This is the best experience we've EVER had at a VRBO. Emily was a fantastic host. She communicated with us often and her communications were substantive. The cottage was absolutely gorgeous!! We were actually sad to leave. I HIGHLY recommend Emily and her beautiful cottage.
This is a beautiful and meticulously-maintained cottage in a lush, parklike setting. We were welcomed warmly and provided with lots of information about local activities and attractions. I hope to return for another stay.
The property was in excellent condition & the owners had provided everything we needed for our stay plus some things we were not expecting-a lovely welcome package with snacks & a nice bottle of wine! The cottage was all we hoped it would be...
We so enjoyed our stay at this lovely cottage that we will return next time we visit family nearby. Emily couldn’t have been more accommodating, stocking the kitchen with treats and morning essentials. The Williamsburg inspired design was perfect for our Bucks County experience. And Yardley is a delight!
Love Emily and Alfred's sacred space. Filled with sweet silence and stunning river views. We have been here before. Indeed the best. Thank you both! Nan and William
This was the perfect place to rest and write. The cottage is beautiful. The wood-burning fireplace provided a picturesque atmosphere for evenings and cold days. The canal tow path, located a very short drive away, was a great place to walk, stretch your legs, and be out in nature. And with shops and stores in nearby towns, the location is great! Emily and Alfred were wonderful and attentive hosts, and their personal touches made this a great stay.
We were elated to find that the reservation that we made for the cottage was everything that we could’ve hoped for. The property is beautiful and in a prime location, the host was gracious and thoughtful, and the cottage itself had all of the amenities we could’ve asked for. The host, Emily, is one step ahead of you when it comes to preparedness (and instructions!). She was responsive to our questions and an otherwise exceptional host. We hope this property is available for our next trip to Bucks County!
Everything was absolute top notch.
Emily is indeed a compassionate Host. So peaceful and serene. Thank you Emily and Alfred! Prayers for Alfreds healing too!!! Love and light Nanette and William

Perfect.
Emily and Alfred thought of everything. We've stayed in many bed and breakfasts, but none have even approached close to this one. Comfort. Privacy. Accessibility. Coziness. Location. Class. Perfect. Absolutely perfect.
My husband and I had a wonderful low key vacation here at this fabulous cottage. It was central to many things. It was cozy and well equipped with convenient parking. The home had modern conveniences mixed with a historical decorum which gave the cottage a special vibe. The owners provided a wealth of information about the area which was really helpful. They also provided access to their herbal garden which allowed me to cook some very tasty food that we bought from the local Amish market. Overall the area is beautiful and scenic and I highly recommend this property for anyone looking to unwind and relax in a beautiful space near the Delaware River.
Our stay at this quaint and cute cottage was absolutely delightful! It provided just the right amount of space for my husband and me to enjoy our visit to the PA and New Jersey area. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it the perfect retreat for a relaxing getaway.
The hosts truly went above and beyond to ensure our stay was enjoyable. They provided plenty of information about local attractions, which made planning our daily adventures a breeze. Whenever we had a question, they were incredibly responsive and helpful, ensuring we had everything we needed.
We highly recommend this charming cottage as a wonderful place to stay. Whether you’re exploring the local area or simply looking for a peaceful retreat, this vintage venue has everything you need for a memorable visit. Thank you to our wonderful hosts for making our stay so special!
We had a truly lovely stay. The cottage is utterly charming, and the park-like grounds are the perfect place for relaxing. The bedroom windows look out on the garden; it was nice to lie in bed and look at the view. We enjoyed candle-lit dinners at the table and chairs set outside under a beautiful old tree. Sat on the front steps at night looking at the Delaware River, listening to the night sounds of insects.
The village of Yardley is close by, and also charming, with some nice restaurants. We really enjoyed walking along the Delaware Canal towpath in the evenings, felt like a hidden world. Wish we could have stayed longer! Definitely would love to go back and stay again!

Perfect
Emily and Alfred covered every situation that could arise when away from home...from "basics" in the kitchen, to a washer and dryer, to band aids and aspirin in the bathroom. They did not overlook one detail. A true "home away from home". Immaculate. Private (it truly is a stand-alone cottage!). Cozy. Centrally located to all sorts of activities, from historical sites to New Hope/Lambertville, to flea markets, to Philadelphia and New York. Warm and welcoming every time you pull into the driveway. "Perfect" sums it up.
I cannot say enough about this lovely cottage. Emily, the hostess was kind and gracious. We arrived to fresh cut flowers and a welcoming basket of snacks. The location was an ideal distance away from the crowds for a Princeton graduation. It is about a 20 minute drive to campus and you do not have to navigate Rt 1 from here. The hosts even adorned the cottage with a Princeton flag! The cottage was spotless and fully appointed. If you bring groceries, you have a full kitchen, - milk, orange juice and coffee were provided. All linens were also provided - even soap. The bookshelf had something for everyone plus a few games. The town of Yardley was a minute away with plenty of restaurants and a WaWa convenience store. The river is directly in front of the cottage, across the road. You will feel more than comfortable during your relaxing stay -from the fairy lights in the beautiful tall tree outside your door to the warmth of the cozy cottage's interior.

About the host
Hosted by Emily Glossbrenner
Bucks County Cottage on the Delaware is owned and managed by Emily Glossbrenner. During a long career as a writing team, she and her late husband, Alfred Glossbrenner, authored over 60 commercially-published books, many of them designed to introduce readers to personal computers and the online world. They also wrote and published the very first book about owning and operating a vacation rental, drawing on their experience turning a small guest cottage on their property into a year-round moneymaker.
Why they chose this property
Every location has its charms, but we have always been particularly charmed by Bucks County, PA. Historic sites, homes, and public buildings dating from the late 1600s on; the Delaware River, teeming with wildlife; the mule-barge canals with their towpath bike trails; European-style restaurants located in old inns; and easy access to New York and Philadelphia by train. Under the circumstances, how could we not have ended up buying a 200-year old Bucks County farmhouse on the Delaware River, complete with a rented bungalow, which we later turned into a vacation-rental cottage that we love sharing with guests from around the world.
What makes this property unique
It's like staying at one of Bucks County's legendary inns and B&Bs, except that you have the whole house to yourself. So you can sleep as late as you please, fix your own breakfast in the well-equipped kitchen, and come and go from your own private driveway. You can spend your days relaxing in the living room with views of the Delaware River and a crackling fire in the woodburning fireplace. Or sit outside on the English Garden Bench with a glass of wine and a good book. When you're ready to venture out, just head north on River Road to Yardley (2 miles) and New Hope/Lambertville (13 miles).
