Shadowland River Lodge on Boardman River - Pet Friendly - Acreage - Private

Shadowland River Lodge is located approx. 12 miles South East of downtown Traverse City. It is nestled on 33 acres of private land with 650 feet of frontage along the Boardman River. The original log home structure was built in 1929 and in later years added on to including a kitchen, dining area, full bathroom, walk-in closet, utility room, and a riverside main bedroom.

Shadowland River Lodge currently sleeps up to 6 guests with a queen bed in the one “ conventional “ bedroom with direct river views. (red bedspread) A set of “twin” size bunk beds are in the main room (red checkered) of the cabin structure along with a “double” size futon. (Cream w/ multi-color stripes)

The property has become a retreat for those looking to be a little off the beaten path of the busy hustle and bustle of Traverse City. Step back in time and enjoy the privacy and sense of nature that envelops this log home along the Boardman River. Also enjoy endless amounts of free firewood for use inside and out!

We are dog friendly - this means all dogs! (Sorry, we only allow dogs, no cats, etc.) There is no size limit. We love to have guests experience Shadowland River Lodge with their K9 family members! We see no need to charge a pet fee, so there isn’t one!

If you are looking for acreage, privacy, or riverfront property, this is your place. I took my sons (12,10) and our dog for 3 nights, and we all had a great time. From fires to playing in the river to sports in the main yard and across the street to board games in the rain. This place is easy to get to, and the hosts are over-accommodating. Don't hesitate if this is on your list.

When we envisioned the perfect elegantly rustic cabin in a beautiful wooded location, we didn’t realize it actually existed, but we just spent a perfect week in it.Everything about this was done to perfection. The grounds were immaculate, the cabin decor was elegant and interesting, the preparation for guests was thorough and thoughtful, and the hosts were very helpful, friendly, and responsive. We can’t say enough good things about this property.

What a special place this is- truly a retreat! Our family of four (including two little ones) had a great time playing in the river, finding pinecones and frogs, and enjoying the beautiful setting. The cabin was immaculate and well appointed for a young family.Nicole and Jason are exceptional hosts. It is obvious that they love this place and take pride and joy in sharing with others. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

My wife and I stayed at Shadowland River Lodge for a babymoon and it was the perfect getaway. Jason and Nicole are wonderful hosts. They greet you at the beginning of your stay to show you around the property and the lodge, which is fantastic. The property is in the perfect spot, far enough from town you can disconnect but close enough to enjoy all Traverse City has to offer. We will be back in the future!

We had an amazing time at Shadowland!! Check in with Jason and Nicole was a great start to our stay!! We loved chatting and learning the history of the beautiful home! The home was very well stocked with everything we could have possibly needed!! The weather was a bit to be desired, but we took the opportunity to play games and enjoy the fireplace!! We would love to stay at Shadowland again some day!!

This was our first time staying at Shadowland and it did not disappoint. It’s a very special place and I hope we get a chance to go back. Jason and Nicole met us there and walked us through the property which was a nice touch. Wonderful people! The property was better than expected. Everything was very clean and they really had everything you would need and more. The only challenging part was the one bathroom. With a family of five it was little challenging at times having only one toilet. Overall it was a great time at shadowland. We definitely will be back.

We are truly grateful to Jason and Nicole for their incredible hospitality. From the moment we arrived, they welcomed us warmly, gave us a tour, and made us instantly comfortable. The cabin was perfectly stocked with everything we could need, and its secluded location by the beautiful river created the ideal setting for our anniversary. Their thoughtful gesture of providing a bottle of wine with chilled glasses went above and beyond. Once again, we loved our stay at Shadowland River Lodge. We had a wonderfully snowy weekend made cozy by the fire reading and playing games while looking out at the beautiful river views and relaxing in the hot tub after cross country skiing nearby. Nicole and I met in grade school and married in 1991 here in Traverse City. Settling down first in Leelanau County before moving into Traverse City. Nicole has been a local REALTOR® for over 25 years and with Coldwell Banker Schmidt for most of those years. She also obtained her bachelors degree from Ferris State University. She has been immersed in the Vacation Rental Management industry since her earliest of years in Glen Arbor, MI - then working for her parents at Harris Properties, Inc. She sat on the board of VRMA (Vacation Rental Management Association) in the mid 1990s. I myself earned an Associates Degree from Northwestern Michigan College and started a career in Criminal Justice in 1992 with the Leelanau County Sheriff's office up until resigning in 2005 to pursue my own local Vacation Rental Company which I still operate today. We have two daughters, Ashley and Emily, now both graduated from High School. Ashley is a recent 2019 graduate from Michigan State University (bio-medical) while Emily is in her 2nd year at Lansing Community College exploring her opportunities.
