House in Stresa, Lake Maggiore/ Italian Lakes, Italy - Peaceful Location, 5 Minutes Drive to Town of Stresa
About Joanna Rigby
We both live and work in England but share a passion for travel and exploring the sights and sounds of other countries. Before we got together, Jonathan backpacked round the world for a year and wrote back home every month telling us all about the exciting destinations he was exploring. Aside from travelling, we both love cooking, our weekly yoga classes, learning the Italian language and fitness. Jonathan is crazy about golf and Graphic Novels (comics) while Joanna is crazy about all kinds of literature, especially the classics. We both love walking in the countryside and above all, we love having fun! We are most at home when we're in the mountains or by the sea. Beautiful locations are what make us smile, along with our beautiful daughter Isabella Sophia, who was born on 1st April 2011.
Joanna Rigby purchased this House in 2006
Why Joanna Rigby chose Someraro
We bought Casa Bellavista in 2006, the year we got engaged. I have been visiting Italy with my family since the age of 13 when I first fell in love with this magnificent country. In 2006 Jonathan proposed to me by the Trevi Fountain in Rome and it was at this point that Italy for me was firmly established in my mind as the most romantic country on the planet! We spent an exhilarating few weeks as a newly engaged couple, exploring Italy by train and falling more and more in love with the country and each other. We both love everything about Bella Italia; the food, the people, the culture, the stunning scenery, the shops, the weather, the list is endless! Lake Maggiore has to be one of the most romantic lakes in the world and for this reason, we looked for a property here.
What makes this House unique
When we first found Casa Bellavista it was a derelict wreck, but we could see the potential. Set in the picturesque village of Someraro, once we stepped foot in the house we knew we couldn't leave without signing on the dotted line! It was the scariest thing we have ever done, but the most exhilarating. It took over three years to complete Casa Bellavista, with the help of a fantastic architect and builder, but we got there in the end. Casa Bellavista offers the romance and tranquillity we craved and yet it is so near to so many fantastic attractions. We have made friends with the locals and are now able to converse with them in our pigeon Italian! We hope our guests will feel as at home in Casa Bellavista as we do. It really is set in one of the most beautiful locations in the world!

Wonderful home with a roof terrace that can’t be beat, but a lot of stairs due to 4 levels so be warned. Mosquitos were plenty in July so buy repellent. Otherwise a fabulous property overlooking the lake. We enjoyed it tremendously!
Thank you for your lovely review. We are so pleased you had a great time.
We loved staying at Casa Bella Vista. The views of Lake Maggiore were tremendous from the house which took our breath away ... really a million dollar view. Everything was clean and functional. The dining area and kitchen are open plan which we really loved. It was also fun to reside in an Italian village for 10 days. The restaurant in the village was also lovely and of gourmet standard.
We are so pleased you had a wonderful time Trudi and thank you for your kind review.
Terrific house with fabulous views.
Great property, amazing views, lots to do within easy drive.
This was our first experience of the Italian Lakes & we had superb views over Lake Maggiore. The House was great, ample space for our family of 5, very well appointed, an amazing bath (says my wife), & is very well placed for trips out to enjoy Italy & Switzerland. Locarno, 75mins round the lake has a great lido for all, £38 for a family of five & a marina to look round afterwards & was so good we went twice.
This accomodation was recently renovated from a shell so is like new, about a 10 minute drive above Stresa with a beautiful View of Lake Maggiore. The ground floor has the master bedroom with a bathroom as big as the bedroom, above are 2 double bedrooms with another bathroom and on the next floor up the well appointed kitchen, breakfast bar / area, lounge with dining table. All open plan, looks great, very high standard of furniture and the icing on the cake is the roof terrace where we ended many afternoons & evenings eating & drinking. We ate at many different restaurants and found them all surprisingly good value.
I would highly recommend this apartment if staying in the area, and would definitely stay here again.
Hi Nick and family
We are so pleased that you had a lovely stay at Casa Bellavista and we have enjoyed reading your tips of where is good to go with a young family. We haven't tried out the Lido at Locarno so intend to go there next time.
Thank you for being such super guests and we hope you will return one day.

We had a wonderfully week in Casa Bellavista and it is everything and more that it says it is. The house is of a very very high standard and the views leave you speechless. Information and help from the owners was first-class. I would hire as small a car as possible for the Italian roads- we were a party of 5 and managed no problems.
Highly recommend this to anyone.
La maison « casa Bellavista » mérite bien son nom avec une vue imprenable sur les îles Borromées.
Maison très confortable et bien agencée, permettant à trois couples de passer une semaine de vacances très agréable.
Thank you so much for your review. We are so pleased that you had a lovely holiday and hope we will welcome you back one day.

For those who fancy sunning themselves on a beach, being in the Italian lakes doesn’t mean you have to forgo that. In the next town to Stresa, just a five minute drive away, Baveno has its own Lido complete with sand, sunloungers, a bar, restaurant, volleyball games to watch, and cool lake breezes.
The nearest airport is Milan Malpensa which is approximately 45 minutes drive from the house. Several airlines fly here. Easyjet flies here from London Gatwick, Bristol or Edinburgh, or you can travel by British Airways or Lufthansa from London Heathrow or Flybe from Birmingham and Manchester. Ryanair fly to Milan Bergamo from London Luton, London Stansted, Bristol, Liverpool, Bournemouth, East Midlands and Glasgow.Jet 2 fly to Bergamo from Leeds Bradford and BMI Baby fly from Birmingham.
The picturesque, bustling town of Stresa is just over a mile away from the house or 5 mins by car / 20 mins on foot, where you will find numerous boutiques and restaurants off the main piazza. For high end shopping, Milan is just 40 minutes away on the train. The house is perfectly situated for visiting the towns around the lake; Luino, Cannobio, Cannero, Arona, Baveno, Pallanza and Ascona to name a few. All of which can be reached within 45 minutes. Stunning Lake Orta is just 25 minutes away.
The nearby town of Stresa boasts numerous shops, restaurants, banks and a well stocked supermarket with delicious local produce. Every Friday Stresa hosts a market where you can browse the local produce or pick up a bargain leather handbag, belt or pair of shoes. The Lago Maggiore Express is a fantastic day trip. It takes you first by train through the Italian Alps, past charming mountain villages, the Swiss Alps, and finally back to Stresa by boat on Lago Maggiore, with the freedom to get off and on both the train and the boat in certain towns.Slightly further afield at 1.5 hours away is Lake Como which features the stunning towns of Bellagio and Varenna. If opera is your scene, then in just under two hours you can be in the beautiful city of Verona where open air concerts are held throughout the Summer at the incredible Verona Arena. More locally, Stresa holds a music festival throughout the Summer months. The famous Borromeo Islands are a 'must'. Just a short boat ride across from the shores of Stresa, these beautiful islands have attracted visitors for centuries. Isola Bella, one of the most popular of the islands has a magnificent palazzo surrounded by lush, floral gardens with fountains, peacocks and secret grottos.
