Magical property, magical situation with magical views.

Just occasionally we come across a property that exceeds all our expectations. Internally every facility was provided, well furnished throughout in a very stylish manner. Both the kitchen and bathroom were modern and well maintained, making our stay extremely comfortable. The big big plus are the views from the lounge and garden both provided a breathtaking outlook along the coast toward Burgh Island and giving beautiful land and seascapes plus the most fantastic sunsets. Yes I really loved the place and can't wait to visit again.

Peacehaven is a Little Gem

I have just had three nights at Peacehaven and I would highly recommend staying here. The bungalow is immaculately clean and very cosy. There’s a lovely sea theme throughout and the views are stunning. The beds are very comfortable, the shower is great and there’s everything you could need in the kitchen. Fast communication with owner.

Incredible views and cosy stay

Lovely bungalow with the most incredible view of Burgh Island and Bantham Bay. Fantastic walk across the fields and cliffs to get down to the beach. We stayed in Feb and had the beach to ourselves at times. Everything you could possibly need in the house, lovely log burner and well appointed kitchen. Comfortable beds and modern, clean bathroom. Highly recommend.

Bungalow with Great Views

Getting to Peacehaven was quite an event, the main roads are easy to navigate. The lanes are a different story, narrow with passing places, very constricted by high banks needing a lot of concentration to navigate safely. Wind your door mirrors in unless you want the drivers side damaged by passing traffic on the lanes. Peacehaven once reached gave fabulous views out to Bigbury on Sea, Banntham Bay, Burgh Island and its hotel with the seascape beyond as well as the estuary leading inland. The bungalow is well appointed and mirrors a home from home, everything you want is there and Judy has put some nice touches to help with your stay. Being the type of people who move around a lot visiting places of interest the whole area does not disappoint at all. The highlight for us was The Burgh Island Hotel where we had afternoon tea in Art Deco surroundings, very professional staff who were all extremely helpful. The return trip to Bigbury was by the Sea Tractor in five feet of tidal water, an experience also not to be missed as you stand on the high rise platform above the water below. Make sure you also do the Round Robin experience of Bus,Train, Ferry and Boat. You’ll see much of the area in different modes of transport.

Lovely property in a great area

We really enjoyed our stay here - the property had everything we needed and was in a lovely location. Judith was very helpful and responsive. The only minor issue we had was a neighbour's truck and trailer that was parked against the wall opposite the garages all week which made manouevring the car into the parking space a bit tight.

The name of the property is called Peacehaven & that just sums our trip up in one word. Just perfect

Judy’s property is the perfect place to have a relaxing & enjoyable holiday. It is well equipped, spacious, beautifully appointed & it has a commanding view over the bay & out to sea. It is just breathtaking. The neighbours are very friendly & respectful & the village itself is charming & an idyllic example of a lovely Devon setting. Highly recommend & we will definitely be back.

Peacehaven a gem

The moment we opened the front door we were so pleasantly surprised the house was immaculate, so nicely furnished and decorated, all modern conveniences, washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer, oven hob, and the walk in shower and bathroom look brand new. The bed is extremely comfortable with plenty of cupboard and drawer space for your clothes etc. And of course the view is absolutely stunning from the lounge and garden where I spent many a happy hour sitting. We would go back there in a heartbeat, could not reccomend it more highly. The surroundings are perfect for walks specially with our little dog, trips to the beach within easy walking distance. The Village Inn in Thurlestone where we had several meals was also very good and reasonably priced. The owner Judy is very helpful and made our stay perfect. You would not be dissapointed at all.

Clean, cosy, fab facilities and great location

We've stayed at many self-catering properties in this area and this is right up there with the best! It's spotlessly clean, super cosy and and brilliantly equipped (eg smart TV, coffee machine, good quality linen, luxurious shower room, washer-dryer). The views are even better than than they look in the photos. The location is great too - within easy walking or driving access to lovely walks, amazing beaches and brilliant pubs (our favourite is the Journey's End in Ringmore and we also had a great meal at The Lobster Pod Bistro at Hope Cove) All the communication from Judy was great - prompt and clear. We really hope to stay again in future - perhaps in the summer when we can make better use of the gorgeous little (fully enclosed) garden. Alice & John

Host profile image
I live in the Midlands with my husband. We try to regularly visit Thurlestone, our favourite place in the South Hams, as often as commitments allow. The property has been in the family for over 50 years, during this time it has been the hub for fabulous family beach holidays. I have tried to make the bungalow comfortable, a home from home for my guests to enjoy. I have repeat visitors year after year with some visitors even settling on their retirement in the neighbourhood. I would say if you love nature and walking and peace and quiet you will love the South Hams.

Why they chose this property

Tucked away in a corner of Thurlestone, but just a short stroll to the centre with thatched cottages, a Village Inn, a Post Office, a Church, and the 4 star Thurlestone Hotel. The village boasts a links golf course, tennis courts and access to the South West Coastal Path.
This cosy coastal property offers amazing views across the valley and out to sea, visible from the garden and inside the property. The house is fully equipped, comfortable beds, electric heating with a log burner for those cooler nights. The garden at the rear of the property is secure, with wood fencing on both sides and a double wire fence at the end of the garden so this does not impair the wonderful view we have across the valley and out to sea, with Burgh Island being a central point. We have a private parking space outside our own garage.
Shops in our nearest town of Kingsbridge have everything you need, from a fish shop, a bakers, small independent retailers, alongside large Tesco and Morrison's stores . Wonderful walks on the South West Coastal path which can be accessed from the property. Superb choice of wonderful sandy beaches, many within a 25 minute walk or 5 minute drive.

What makes this property unique

Thurlestone is an ideal place to stay if you like Walking, Bird Watching, Beaches, Nature, Golf, Tennis etc. A central position to explore the South Hams, with Salcombe, Hope Cove, Kingsbridge, Totnes and Dartmouth amongst the many places for a great day out. The Bungalow provides a Welcome Book giving you all the information you will need to maximise your stay including a list of local eateries. In the Summer you may see fantastic sunsets, a perfect end after a day at the beach, sitting in the garden enjoying a G&T while the BBQ sizzles away and the sun goes down. I would not recommend the area to anyone who wants busy night life. Entertainment here is more a great chat whilst enjoying a good meal ! There are 2 local Pubs one in The Village with good food and occasional quiz nights and music nights but we provide loads of Games and Videos, DVD's for your use.
