Cosy cottage, ideal for our short stay. Enjoyed the outdoor space to relax in. Ideal village location with shop and pubs. Plenty of walks on the doorstep and places to visit nearby.
House was clean, comfortable, and very convenient for the local shops. Our host was extremely friendly and helpful and ensured we had everything we needed for a relaxing and stress free stay.
Lovely friendly host, charming house and a peaceful location. We really enjoyed our stay and would happily return. Thank you so much for a lovely trip!
This property was perfect for our family of four. Helen is a great host and welcomed us when we turned up and showed us around the house as well as giving us some great local tips. Parking is convenient on the private drive and you can walk to restaurants, pubs and grocery shops within minutes. The house has everything you need and we found it very comfortable. Listening to the songbirds in the gardens in the morning was amazing. There are plenty of local walks nearby and lots to do around the area within a short drive. It’s a lovely part of the country. We totally recommend staying here.
We had a lovely stay, excellent arrival instructions, we were greeted by our host who was so lovely and sent us further recommendations for things we might like to do. The house is perfect and in an ideal location, we hope to visit again!
We had great week at the Coach House. Helen is an excellent and responsive host. The property was very clean and had everything we needed in the kitchen. The location is brilliant, Mere itself is a pretty village with shops and a couple of pubs, the Coach House is in a quiet lane just below Castle Hill and it’s a short drive to lots of interesting places such as Frome, Shaftesbury, Wells and Sherborne, as well as a good selection of NT properties. Helen had lots of helpful information. Parking inside the gate for one car. There were just the two of us, so it was fine space wise inside. Pretty patch of garden at the front, lots of birds and birdsong and Helen’s chickens just through the fence ( we benefited from the eggs!)
Lovely location and wonderful host/owner who was welcoming and hospitable.Perfect for a family of 3/4 or two couples wishing to base themselves for day trips to Stourhead Gardens, Longleat or Stonehenge.
Mere was quite busy over the Bank Holiday weekend, but this was not a problem. We had an excellent meal in the Stapleton Arms, Buckhorn Weston. The owners and staff were lovely, and they serve fresh fish daily.
We had a truly wonderful stay at The Coach House, and managed to visit lots of lovely local towns all a short distance away, Frome and Shaftesbury were both highlights with lovely independent shops and spots to eat. The house is very comfortable and perfect for a family looking for a cosy escape. Mere is a beautiful little town, Helen was a great host and we had everything we needed on hand for a really relaxing stay surrounded by stunning walks and scenery.
Coach House was the perfect location for our short break. The rustic cottage is comfortable, clean and has all the facilities needed for a home from home stay. The host was very friendly, helpful and made us feel welcome. The village is quiet and picturesque with several pubs, takeaways and small shops.
Helen provided such a lovely and friendly welcome to her beautiful property. We loved Mere and exploring the region. We definitely recommend the Coach House as a great place to stay for a couple or family.

Why they chose this property
Originally from Shaftesbury we were looking for our first home together. When we bought Long Hill House no one had lived in the nearby coach house since the coachman and coach (mud floors, hayloft etc). It took us three years to extend and convert - and we love it!
What makes this property unique
It's a home from home close to lots of attractions.
