Tranquil Cottage with modern amenities of home, located near beaches and parks
The Forest Haven Suite is nestled in the woods on the Northern California Redwood Coast. Located minutes from spectacular scenic vistas, beaches state and national parks, the Forest Haven Suite is the ideal location from which to launch daily activities.
As summarized, the Suite is a 460 sq.ft. studio style structure, fully loaded with amenities. Of the five cottage at Golden Eagle Vacation Rentals, the Forest Haven Suite is the one 'modular' constructed unit. The 2 X 6 walls came complete with windows, siding etc. installed. One of the challenges was moving the components into place and 'erecting' the structure into place.
The metal roof is an outstanding choice of materials due to the temperate coastal climate here. The design is clean, maintenance low and the light green hue compliments the surrounding forest of second growth spruce. The skylight facing east allows light into the studio style cottage with it's broad Douglas fir beams transverse the short dimension of the structure. The gentle beat of a light rain on the metal roof is peaceful to listen too.
A four step staircase elevates one to the Forest Haven Suite covered porch constructed of the TREX material. Chocolate brown in color, the covered porch supported by light green 6 X 6 columns integrates nicely with the living space inside and outside environment.
Two wooden rocking chairs are on the covered porch with a small table between them. Adjacent to the glass slider entrance of the cottage. There is a welcoming vase with fresh cut flowers, gathered from around the Tranquility Pond on it.
Rocking back and forth in the rocker with a glass of wine, compliments of the host, the everyday stress of life melts away as you focus on the rays of sunshine filtering through the trees and hear the seals barking from their rocky perches. The wooded treeline adjacent to the Forest Haven Suite conforms to the perennial creek that courses by the cottage. It is difficult to discern the sound of the breeze through the trees from the sound of a babbling brook. Aptly, named Beach Creek, it's ultimate destination, the Pacific Ocean, is not far beyond the boundaries of Golden Eagle Vacation Rentals. Sea Otters, though very discreet have been sighted near Beach Creek and IN the Tranquility Pond at Golden Eagle Vacation Rentals. Also, quite large beavers have been sighted by this host AT Golden Eagle Vacation Rentals. One very early morning, a small wake across the top of the Tranquility Pond was witnessed. A very large beaver emerged from the water, stood up and turned around from the direction it had come from. Another wake of water proceeded across the short dimension of the Tranquility Pond. Again, another smaller adorable slick/furry creature emerged from the water. Apparently, the larger of the two was MOM. The juvenile was her offspring. I witnessed them waddle down the Golden Eagle driveway until disappearing into the brush, heading in the direction of a neighboring pond.
A bald eagle perches itself in the top of a tree looking down on the waters flowing into the Tranquility Pond, searching for prey.
A large campfire pit is located below the TREX covered porch. Composed of rocks mined from the Trinity River, there is a bundle of firewood, compliments of the host, available. The bundle of wood consists of smaller sized Douglas fir kindling for starter wood and the slower burning hardwoods, Ma drone and Oak. Hosting guests around a campfire is a great opportunity for the host to meet them. Many friendships have been formed, family reunions, wedding union and anniversaries celebrated around the campfire.
I remember a Thanksgiving holiday around the campfire with my good friend, Mike & Mrs. W from the great state of Oregon. A skilled woodsman, Mike was convinced I could not ignite a campfire during a torrential rain. With persistence and the help of some diesel fuel, we were able to enjoy the warmth of a roaring bon fire in front of the Forest Haven Suite.
The complimentary hues, greens and browns, of the cottage exterior are offset be the white trim around the windows, deterring the subtle elegance of the cottage's interior. Stepping through the glass slider entrance to the Forest Haven Suite is an experience worth noting.
The five senses are immediately engaged and emerged in the tranquility of a special moment.
A red duvet across a queen size bed beckons your immediate attention. Situated in a three sided alcove, the matching crimson colored complimentary pillows offer a mountain of support for the sore back of an avid reader in bed. . The subtle sound of 'Light Classical' music blends audio virtuosity to an increasingly sensual experience.
A gentle warmth and glow emanating from the flickering flames of an inlaid hearth creates a sense of romance. A welcoming colorful floral bouquet of native bloom is presented in a glass vase on the dining room table. Is that source of the aromatic essence filling the air in the Forest Haven Suite?
The lingering fragrance of Tea Tree emanates through the Forest Haven Suite calming the spirit. Tea Tree is an aromatic component, the essence, in the 'eco friendly', nontoxic, biodegradable cleaning products that I personally use in the cleaning maintenance of the cottages. These cleaning products make this exceedingly important chore enjoyable.
There is a complimentary bottle of California wine that comes with the cottage that is part of the experience. Would you like a red or white? Often, to enhance the palate, I will present a sampler plate consisting of fresh locally produced products. Fresh caught white King Salmon, available in Trinidad is my favorite. I often share it with my guests along side of fresh fruit, local cheeses and a locally produced Mustard Dill sauce that is popular here.
The floor is made of laminated hickory that has a rich dark hue. The black granite tile counter top looks simple, sleek and modern. Surrounding the thermostatically controlled fireplace inset into the wall, is the same lovely tile. The kitchenette has all the modern amenities of home. The full size refrigerator, microwave, oven and dishwasher are also black in color, integrate nicely into a modern theme and are well stocked with utensils pots and pans. Freshly ground coffee beans, San Francisco Bay French Roast and Rain Forest, are located next to a coffeemaker on the far left of the counter top. There is sugar next to the coffee in a cute glass container. There is creamer in the refrigerator. There are also herbal teas available in multi colored individual packets on the counter near the coffee. The ceramic top stove is modern in appearance with it's sleek black color and design. It has four burners.
Renting a moving truck to transport all the appliances for the cottages from the Direct Buy Outlet in Sacramento CA, was a harrowing trip for the ages.. Home Depot provided the beautiful design and cabinetry evident in the Forest Haven Suite and other Golden Eagle Suites. Close attention to detail in the planning stages at the store resulted with the gorgeous red colored cabinets that close with a gentle touch. The fixtures to the drawers are lovely and another subtle nuance amidst many details evident in these modern cottages.
A table for two has a welcoming floral arrangement of native blooms in a vase, situated between the salt and pepper shakers. The remote for the Satellite T.V. is on the table with a Welcome sheet containing the WiFi code and other useful details. The table is located in the dining area of the studio style cottage, close to the warmth of the fireplace. Two black padded stools accompany the table. An attractively comfortable two person couch affords a great view of the woods through the slider and a great place to watch your favorite programs from. Prop one or two of the couches pillows behind your back for maximum comfort. The complimentary reading chair is just as comfy. Situated next to a small table with a lamp, it is an ideal place to read.
A sliding pocket door separates the main area of the studio from the bathroom. The bath/shower has sliding glass doors. Elegantly trimmed out with stainless steel, they take time to clean but are worth it because the attention to detail and cleanliness is the most important consideration, especially regarding the bathroom .The ornate mirror above the lavi and other key components blend well together here. The fresh coastal air and a cacophony of birds are heard through the cracked window located above the potty chair. The provided hair dryer will not scare the deer. They are apparently tame.
The hot water heater is the 'on demand' style. Water is heated as it moves through the unit once a hot water valve is tAll you need to remember is when turning on hot water in either of the sinks or shower: Turn the hot water valve to full volume until the water is hot. THEN, decrease the flow rate and temperature to what you prefer. I've used 'on demand' hot water heaters for several years and they have always provided hot water consistently, saving mightily on fuel costs.
Agate Beach and Patrick's Point State Park is a short stroll away.
Elk, pristine lagoon environments, Prairie Creek State Park and Redwood National Park are just minutes away.
Surfing, kayaking, whitewater rafting, hiking, biking, paddle-boarding, whale, bird watching and a plethora of other outdoor activities are popular on the California Redwood Coast.
Proximity to what natures finest has to offer, coupled with the peaceful tranquility of the Forest Haven Suite, provides a sanctuary for the perfect romantic getaway.
Celebrate your honeymoon in the Forest Haven Suite! Golden Eagle has hosted a 'Silver' honeymoon anniversary. There have been wedding ceremonies staged around the Tranquility Pond..
I know the rivers,, public beaches, parks, swim spots, fishing holes, tours and will deliver the information that will make your vacation memorable.

This property is NOT IN OPERATION. We traveled 4 hours to find it not in operation. This was an anniversary trip. We had to scramble to find lodging. According to a passerby, it has been closed for some time. WHY is the listing still live?We need out money returned.
If I could give this place zero stars I would. DO NOT BOOK HERE! Upon my arrival the check in process was messy, my cabin as not available/I was told by a random person on the property I would get a refund, property ground were VERY sketchy, 4-5 people who tossed me around before finding me a “cabin” were inconsistent and the owner was terrifying. It was extremely unsafe. 100% a scam!!! I ended up leaving and finding other accommodations (and was lucky because everything was booked).
I realize this will never be posted or probably even be read by a real human. But, this experience was very disheartening and frustrating and puts a stain on VRBO for giving a platform to these hosts. It is illegal in California to rent a place, even a short-term rental, without disclosing there is no running water.
I think this place is a scam. The office wasn’t open. The phone numbers for the host were disconnected. Some random person on the property got the owner on the phone for me. He told me there was no water, but he would bring me buckets of water to flush the toilet.
The proximity of this property to the Redwoods and beaches made it ideal for our vacation.

Beautiful cottage
Marc was great to deal with, cottage was perfect for us and the area is beautiful
We had such a great time and enjoyed how easy it was to get to many popular locations from the Redwoods to the Beaches. There is an updated kitchen area with all the appropriate appliances for a comfortable stay and the quiet but close location is great for two people and a dog to get away and explore.
Was such a peaceful location amongst the trees and stars. We will definitely be coming back up and staying here again so we can explore more of the area around. Highly Recommend staying here.
We loved our stay in Cottage #1! It is in a beautiful setting that feels peaceful and remote, but is still within easy access of Highway 1/101 and a multitude of sites, activities and resources. Our cottage was close to the big/caretaker's house, but we never heard anything except the sounds of nature. The cottage is quaint, comfortable and well-appointed.

I enjoy cleaning the Cottages for a couple reasons..
I use non toxic cleaning products that smell great, thoroughly dismantling the theory that guys are not qualified to be expert housekeepers.
Once I get my Golden Eagle housekeeper's uniform with name & logo on the front, website URL on the back, pockets for all my cleaning gear..
Mr. Clean would want to be green.
I am a well seasoned traveler and own and AirB&B myself. I chose this location based on my knowledge of the area. A true gem and the photos and description does not do this property justice. There were too many amenities to list, and the care and attention to details made us decide we would book this property again, with family next time. You will not be disappointed if you are looking for a beautiful, & tranquil spot to stay along the Northern California Coast. FIVE STARS!!

Cabin was very small. Bed against wall so hard for 2 people to sleep well have to climb over each other. Would be ok for 1 person.
Cabin was perfect, recently remodeled, clean and well stocked. The property is also quite beautiful and tranquil. Host was friendly and helpful. We had some vehicle issues on our trip so got there after 9PM. Took us a while to find a note and the unit. Only negative was the phone # for contact on Vrbo is disconnected. This was a minor inconvenience a couple of times for us. Way above and beyond service from owner who had a local mechanic friend look at and fix our drooping skid plate! That alone made it over a 5 star experience. We would definitely return and recommend.
Let me just start this review with a thank you to property owner, Ms. Carolyn, for her warmth and hospitality. We have a new home away from home.
The property is located in the perfect spot to explore the Redwood coast. We were minutes away from Su-Meg and 30 minutes from Redwood National Park and Fern Canyon.
The cabin is lovely and fully-stocked to cook at home if you would like. We cooked some delicious Humboldt steak in the kitchen. 10/10.
The water runs HOT! And it is so peaceful to wake up with the skylight and hear the pond and frogs at night. This is truly a getaway from the world. We did not have cell service, but the internet is STRONG!
My favorite part was the bonfire we enjoyed with Ms. Carolyn. She was so kind and helpful and I will cherish this space and Golden Eagle vacation rentals forever! Already planning the next trip back!
This was a great getaway for my husband and I on our 20th anniversary. It’s a 1 room studio cabin, with an large kitchen for its size. It comes with a tv, a fire place and nice little rocking chairs on the porch looking into the forest. There were a lot of plus’s to this property but there could also be a few improvements. There is not a proper place for your luggage and clothing, therefore our clothes ended up strewn about the room and haphazardly thrown across the sofa. The sofa and love seat had nice deep and comfortable cushions but the hard wood arm rests did not allow for lounging. The high top table in the middle of the room was a great place to put drinks and read maps of the area but would probably be better if it was a large coffee table that could be used with the sofa.
There was not anything to clean up minor spills like the coffee grounds we dropped, but they did provide both coffee and a tasty bottle of wine to drink out of there mismatched cups.
The bathroom could definitely use some work, it needs a paint job and the peeling paint above the bathtub to be scraped off. I would also suggest some hooks and a shelf in there for a place for extra towels and to hang your clothes. But the mirrored cabinet was a useful place to put your bathroom items and we were very grateful for that. It would have also been very great to have a full length mirror somewhere in the cabin.
Our hostess was gracious and helped us by offering an air printer. Overall B+
We had a wonderful stay, complete with a bottle of wine from our host. We actually heard the the sea lions barking in the distance.
This place is worth every penny.
Wonderful location to access the Redwood National park and nearby beaches. We loved Trinidad.

About the host
Hosted by Marke Matthews, Owner or Joan Berkowitz, Asst. Mgr.
Born in Los Angeles CA in 1957, my Father migrated from Detroit MI and worked in the aerospace industry. Mom became a very successful real estate agent/broker and taught her children the fundamentals of success.
After I graduated from Humboldt State University in 1980, (B.A. Geological Sciences), I labored for several subcontractors, who bid on Simpson Timber Co. contracts. The 'planting season' coincides with the rain months, November-April. I planted over 500,000 one and two year old Douglas fir and Redwood trees during my career. Extremely physical and demanding, the pounding took a toll on my hips. Pre-commercial tree thinning occurs during the dry season, May-September. It is also a physically demanding effort, requiring at least 6 continual hours operating a chain saw,...pushing through brush and thick 'doghair'.
MOM and I developed Golden Eagle Vacation Rentals from a raw piece of land.
Commencing with the permitting process in 2007, the site construction required the logging of 200 second growth spruce trees, the burning of massive piles of slash, endless stump grinding, grading and excavation for the Golden Eagle water feature.
Construction of the caretaker residence and five cottages was complete by 2012. The grand opening of GOLDEN EAGLE VACATION RENTALS occurred 15MAY12.
The mission statement for Golden Eagle Vacation Rentals is health, wellness and fitness.
The myriad of outdoor activities, the redwood forests, State and National Parks, luxurious cottages, hospitality and peaceful tranquility are just some of the benefits of visiting Golden Eagle Vacation Rentals.
I am passionate about operating Golden Eagle Vacation Rentals and taking this family owned small business to the next level.
Trinidad, is a California Coastal National Monument Gateway, one of seven located along the 700+ mile long California coastline.
I'm blessed to reside on the CA Redwood Coast, the myriad of outdoor activities, the redwood forests, State and National Parks ..
Why they chose this property
I purchased the Golden Eagle property in 1987. A friend referred this modestly priced raw parcel. I was intrigued that there was a 'commercial recreation' zoning designated. The rural location of this 3.5 acre parcel, densely populated with second growth spruce and a perennial stream flowing through it sold me on it. I had no idea at the time, that this discreet little gem, located adjacent to Patrick's Point State Park, would evolve into what it is today.
Commencing in 2012, people from across the USA and Europe have stayed at Golden Eagle Vacation Rentals. Golden Eagle Vacation Rentals is owned and operated by people who share a passion for the great outdoors, which inspired them to create an environmentally conscious company that revolves around you, the guest. This enchanted and pristine region of Northern California I took for granted long before I realized the commercial potential of operating a business here, based on tourism. I feel very lucky to be in the position to help people who come here with my life long experience living in the grandiose state of California. Living 'behind the redwood curtain' has enabled me to enjoy what are some of the most scenic beautiful vistas anywhere.
The close proximity to Prairie State Redwoods Park, Redwood National Park, 10 public beaches, 5 major rivers provides a plethora of outdoor activities. Being a passionate outdoor activities person has enabled me to enjoy the benefits of the pristine CA NoCal Redwood Coast.
Peaceful tranquility exists here. Clean air and water are beneficial to health and wellness. Both are in abundance as are the 400+ bird species and marine mammals that make this their home.
Wildlife sightings are common at Golden Eagle Vacation Rentals. Groups of deer, several species of wild cats, beavers, otters and the sounds of seals barking heard from the Forest Haven Suite. The deer are so tame, they often bed down on the lush lawn at Golden Eagle.
