About this property
Traditional Charming Cottage Above Sandy Beach - a welcoming Family Holiday Home
Rock House is located in a small hamlet on the coast of North Cornwall a short amble from the South West Coast Path. The village of Trebarwith Strand with its famous surfing beach is within a few minutes walk and the Cornish section of the wonderful cliff path, which meanders for some 630 miles around the coast offering spectacular views and an uninterrupted walk from Minehead to Poole, is within a stone’s throw of the front door. Rock House is a beautiful old slate building with a traditional Cornish cottage feel. The house has a well equipped kitchen which is - like the rest of the house - cosy and stylish. The kitchen includes a good sized fridge freezer, two ovens, a microwave and electric hob. There is a full range of equipment and (if you're visiting in the colder months) a Rayburn stove which warms the cockles, dries socks, heats the water and bakes bread. Outside, a small lawned garden and a pretty, cloistered slate barbecue area is available.. perfect for those sunny summer evenings. The barbecue area incorporates an outside loo and utility room equipped with washing machine and dryer which can be made available for guests. The house also has cosy bathrooms, comfy beds and can be let complete with linen and towels.. We also offer complimentary toiletries, from the fabulous Arran Aromatics Feel Good range, to all our guests. Rock House is spacious and has three main bedrooms, the master bedroom with 5' double bed and adjoining ensuite shower room (with underfloor heating for those cold winter mornings), the guest room with another double and the children's room with two singles and a bunk. There is a travel cot for babies (although we do ask guests to bring their own baby linen) which will fit comfortably into any of the three bedrooms. The main bathroom - which has a bath, loo and washbasin - and the two double rooms have a wonderful view across the valley. There is a sitting room with comfy chairs and an open fire, which is also equipped with TV, DVD/BluRay, Stereo and a great collection of movies and books. A good sized dining room with the Rayburn stove in an inglenook, comfortably seats eight. Treknow, within an easy walk of Tintagel, is a small settlement of some 100 dwellings established it is said, in the early part of the 16th century to house the quarry workers who served the stone merchant vessels which landed at the nearby natural harbour. Rock House itself is reputed to be the home of quarry captain, “Captain Jack”. It is the second oldest house in the village and built of Cornish slate (no doubt from Captain Jack’s quarry) and is full of old fashioned charm. There are plenty of charming local pubs and restaurants within walking distance, including the spectacular “Port William’ perched above the beach with its entrancing views of the ocean. The North Cornwall coast is peppered with secluded coves, peaceful walks, great beaches, charming towns and fishing villages. Padstow, now renowned for its association with Rick Stein as much as for its pretty harbour, fishing fleet and winding lanes is within easy reach as is Port Isaac an historic village with a real Cornish feel and the filming location for ITV’s “Doctor Martin”. If you’re a keen walker, surfer, beach bum, foodie or real ale fan, there is no better place to find spectacular views, varied walks, charming pubs, restaurants and real relaxation and if you have a young family, there’s plenty to do within easy reach. Please note that Treknow Cottages maintains a no smoking policy in all accommodation.

This house is wonderfully located in the lovely village of Treknow, with easy access to the North Cornwall coastal path and a short walk down to the beautiful beach at Trebarwith Strand. The house itself has a lovely old world feel to it with lots of period features, the kitchen is modern and well equipped and the deck gets plenty of sunshine. We loved our stay here and are keen to come back
The house is Ideally placed for exploring the coast. We were grateful for host booking us in at short notice and the place was spotless on our arrival. We appreciated the huge DVD library as we had some rainy days.
Very nice, a quiet & peaceful location... parking a major bonus. Cliff top walk is stunning to either Tintagel or Trebarwith....and a good cardiac work out.The actual house was great for us.
Rock House is more beautiful in person than the photos in the listing. It is full of charm and history as well as every modern convenience you could want. Our family loved staying here and Kim was lovely to work with. She went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcomed and comfortable. We will be booking here again!
Nice old house.
Beautiful area and well positioned for local walks to beach, pub and restaurants.
Not far to drive to towns of interest Bodmin moor and other beautiful beaches.
Had a fantastic holiday.

Thanks for your kind comments - we are so delighted that you had a good time staying in our house and could make the most of its great location.
We have had a wonderful stay at Rock House. The location is an ideal base for exploring the surrounding villages and perfect location to accessing the lovely beach. We had glorious weather so utilised the outside space and BBQ each evening when we returned from the beach. Will definitely return.
Nice cottage, comfortable for 5 adults. Good location with nice 10-15min walk to Trebawith beach and Port William pub. Close to Tintagel. Good facilities but surprised no dishwasher for size of property (not a major issue!!!)

I am, of course, extremely sorry to read such negative comments about Rock House, and will consider them very carefully. We appreciate all feedback. I would say that my whole team works very hard to maintain standards and so this makes difficult reading. We carry out extensive cleaning between every booking and pay for the best broadband connection available in the area. If we fell below our usual standards this time then I am sorry.
We advertise the cottage as a family home and price it very competitively: every one of the 11 other reviews we have had this year, across various sites, have given us 5 stars, so I would like to reassure prospective visitors that this is not the usual view of our guests.
Beautiful old stone cottage near to beach and coast path
We had a fabulous stay; the cottage and location were just perfect. We only used the car once all week. Tintagel (shops and pasties!) just a short-ish walk away. A lovely walk down to Trebarwith Strand beach which is world-class at low tide.
We stayed at Rock House for two weeks and enjoyed the great beach, surf and parts of the coast path, as well as tips for local activities from our host. The family holiday home had everything we need and enough space for the evenings and rainy days for our group of 6. The house could use a bit of love and care in places. The beds were clean and comfortable.

A wonderful stay
Rock House is a wonderful place to be. It is perfectly situated in a tranquil and peaceful scenery in Cornwall. You can go on walks along the coastal line, to Tintagel or to the beach. The house itself is very charming and spacious and provides you with everything you need for your daily life. Thank you.
If you are looking to reveal the secrets of Cornwall, the Rock House is perfectly located for privacy, romance, water, walking. Bracing walks, swims, views in your doorstep, and the rest of Cornwall an easy drive. Lovely Kim will make sure you are well settled, the beds are comfy, and the ensuite shower will ease away any sore muscles from your adventuring. We very much enjoyed our stay.

We are so very pleased that you love the house and its location as much as we do! KIm and the team always work so hard to ensure that our guests are happy and that the house is comfy and clean, so thank you for your lovely comments.
Great festive stay with lots of places to visit within a short drive away - our favourite had to be Polzeath beach for the absolutely freezing Christmas Day swim - so well attended and free mulled wine for the brave souls who dipped! We ate out at the Port William pub overlooking the squally ocean - fabulous views....Rock House was well equipped with plenty of room for all of us (family of four and spaniel) Open fire in the sitting room was a real bonus and the Christmas tree set up for our arrival was very sweet.
Rock house simply put was home away from home. The kitchen was well furnished which made cooking easy. We also found all the leaflets of places we could visit very helpful since it was our first time in Cornwall. Our favourite place was the Strand beach which was very close to the house and we will definitely be back. Thanks Kim for making our stay comfortable and making yourself available anytime we needed help.
If you’re visiting Cornwall Rock house is the place to stay. Definitely recommend.
This was our second visit to Rock House and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house is ideally located just outside of tintagel and in walking distance of a beautiful beach and pub.
Communications with Kim at the house were great, kim rang a week before for a catch up and to discuss arrival times. We really couldn't have asked for more.
We enjoyed our stay so much we are already planning our return visit next year.
perfect for our needs, clean, great housekepper, further from the sea than I thought 2 good local pubs, lovely beach (but be aware of the Cornish tides!) stunning cliff top walks to Tintagel. 30 minutes from Padstow, and Bude and all in between, stunning scenery fab costal walks on the door step, very narrow scary roads! thank you
We had a great time in Cornwall.
Communication was excellent throughout .Both Kate and Kim were very helpful .
The location of the property is first rate with a short walk across fields to the beach.
The cottage is old with low ceilings so beware if you are tall !
The kitchen is well equipped and everything was cleaned thoroughly prior to our arrival.
We had a very enjoyable stay .Thank you .

Not Quite Right
First of all the housekeeper Kim Climo was excellent. However, the property is rather tired and the second bedroom had an infestation of Jackdaws in the roof space that ruined 2 nights sleep. Kim's fast action saved the remainder of the stay but I suggest that some serious maintenance should have already taken place to prevent the infestation in the first place. The house feels quite damp which rendered the lounge unusable during the stay as it had a very unpleasant smell. There were a number of other smaller issues such as chipped crockery that was only almost clean. Cutlery and mugs required cleaning before we could use them. Loose toilet seat and the kitchen tap disintegrated. The toaster handles drop off. I'm sure that the property could be delightful but it needs some work on the building and presentation.

I have contacted John directly to apologise for failing to meet his expectations on this occasion. It is very disappointing, as my team always strive to go the extra mile to make sure that our guests are happy and we routinely receive very high ratings. The jackdaw incident was most unfortunate, but I am grateful that John acknowledges how quickly we found an expert to deal with the issue on a Sunday morning, as soon as it was brought to our attention for the first time. We are investigating his other comments to ensure that all is well for future visitors. Kate

I am very sorry that Gerd was so unhappy at Rock House. For twenty years, we have only had very positive reviews, but on this occasion clearly we failed to meet their expectations. If they had contacted us during their stay, we would have done everything possible to address their concerns; my team work very hard to make every guest's stay a happy and comfortable experience.
Our family had a wonderful stay at Rock House. Tucked in a quiet village up on the cliffs, it's the perfect spot for either walks to nearby Trebarwith or Tintagel, or for heading out into the rest of the county to explore.
The house itself is wonderful - warm, welcoming and with everything we needed. Wouldn't hesitate to stay again, thank you for a fabulous stay
The house is quirky and spacious. We were welcomed by a lovely lady who showed us around. The house is mostly equipped for up to 8 people, but if travelling in a larger party one snag is that the only shower is in the en suite to the master bedroom - this made it a bit time consuming and inconvenient for everyone to have showers - there is another bathroom without a shower.
The location is good and off the beaten track - an easy walk to tintagel by road or take the scenic cliff walk to the church and walk into the town from there. Also a 15 minute walk from trebarwith strand but this is a steep walk back through field and woodland so not for the very young or elderly. Be aware that the tide is in for most of the day at trebarwith and the beach is generally only accessible from later afternoon onwards. For beach days, Bude or Port Isaac are a safer bet.
The two most local pubs are very pricey and arguably the quality of the food and service doesn’t match the price! Better to sample eateries further afield. Boscastle farm shop and tintagel brewery are two great places to eat good food.
Parking is off road and you can fit two cars on the drive.
Lots of DVDs and books to use. The wi Fi was very poor during our visit, which wasn’t a problem for the adults but irritated the moody teens! There is no phone signal in the cottage (might be a blessing).
Beds were very comfy - a bit surprised to be asked to pay an extra premium of £12 per person for linen as this has never happened during dozens of cottage stays over the years. We opted to take our own as it would have cost over £100 extra for our party. It was mentioned in the terms of booking but thought it was quite a steep charge.
The communication from the owner was very good with a handy digital booklet explaining everything.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend!
