About the host
Hosted by Scott Gibson
My wife and I live in central Edinburgh with our 6 'Twenty/Thirty something' year old children. We have owned the house for 25 years now and over the years have enjoyed many happy holidays and short breaks/long weekends with family and friends at this beautiful loch side house. Achnasmeorach House is where we 'get away from it all' and where we chill........and all within a minutes walk of the shore and 15 minutes walk of one of the best Gastro Pubs in the Western Highlands of Scotland, the Kilchrenan Inn which we bought and redeveloped back in 2016. The house has everything you could expect of a family home and is a real 'home from home'. We love being able to share our special place with like minded family's and groups of friends. The reviews from pervious guests say it all really.
Why they chose this property
The house enjoys an exceptional loch side position with its own private shoreline, jetty, boathouse, fire pit area, slipway and 7 seater hot tub! Surrounded by the dramatic and wonderful scenery of Argyll with magnificent Ben Cruachan as a backdrop and stunning views across Loch Awe, this Victorian house (1879) is furnished to an extremely high standard in a contemporary style and offers everything required to create a relaxing and memorable short break or vacation. We are also within walking distance of one of the best pub/restaurants in the West Highlands, which reopened on October 2016 following it's first major refurbishment in over 40 years! The house has the space and facilities for all age groups. With plenty of living space, a wonderful large garden and a unique location making it perfect for special occasions, memorable gatherings and short breaks for groups of family or friends. Over the past few years we have invested heavily in the house making it, in our opinion, one of.........if not the most luxurious of Scottish holiday homes currently available as a holiday let. The Drawing Room, Family TV Room and The Games Cabin have both been upgraded only in the past few years. All beds and mattresses have been replaced within the past 3 years to top end Hypno Beds....by Royal Appointment no less!! You will not be disappointed.
What makes this property unique
The stunning views and the general comfort of the house. As well as luxurious bedrooms there are 3 separate living spaces plus a large open plan kitchen/dining to seat up to 12. The shoreline and the magnificent scenery are what make the situation of this house truly unique. On the one hand it is in a relatively remote location offering peace and quiet, however the house is only a short walk from the village centre and the newly refurbished Kilchrenan Inn, a unique gastro pub with over 50 covers plus a wonderful bar fully stocked with your favourite Scottish Gins and Whiskies. The house is also close by the Taychreggan Hotel which offers a 2 AA Rosette dining experience. The Ardenasaig Hotel, which offers a 3 AA Rosette dining experience is only a 5 minute drive away. The nearest village, Taynuilt has a train station, a 9 hole golf course, Post Office, tea room, Taynuilt Inn (excellent restaurant/pub 2AA), grocers and butchers is a 15 minute drive. The nearest main town, Oban has great shops including a Tesco, Lidl, Aldi, FatFace, Marks & Spencers Food, Homebase, Argos, New Look, Boots, Specsavers, Waterstones Books, WH Smith, Costa Coffee, Wetherspoons plus many other local shops and restaurants such as GelatoBurger, Cuan Mhor, La Piazza, FishHouse, Ee-usk, Coast and Etive to name but a few. The town also boasts the Oban Distillery, a harbour, the main Ferry terminal to the inner and outer Hebridean Islands, a train station, swimming pool, a micro brewery, and an 18 hole golf course. Oban is also has some amazing restaurants and calls itself the Sea Food Capital of Scotland. Oban airport is less than half an hours drive away giving quick and inexpensive access by plane to many of the inner and outer Hebridean Islands.
