Dittisham, is a traditional Devon fishing village located on the River. A short stroll along the beach from Smugglers is the quay, home to the local pub (The Ferry Boat Inn), and the Anchorstone Cafe (open March - September). Both of which share Smugglers' stunning views of the Dart. Regular ferries to Dartmouth and across the water to The National Trust's Green way (Agatha Christies holiday residence) also run from here.
Other facilities in Dittisham include a village shop, playground, café, two pubs, boat hire and sailing school.
Please note: The river Dart at Dittisham is Tidal. At high water the beach is submerged and the river surrounds the house. There are steep steps and a path behind the cottage for access during high tide. The cottage is, therefore, not suitable for the elderly or infirm and young children should be supervised. Parking is possible on the beach at low tide. Cars must be parked in the village at high tide.

To the north of the South Hams you will find the Dartmoor National Park and to the south, a beautiful stretch of coastline including many excellent beaches for the family, such as the Slapton sands, Blackpool sands and Salcome Sands.
Dittisham, is an unspoilt and exceptionally beautiful riverside fishing village located up stream from Dartmouth on the River Dart. Dittisham village is the ideal spot for a truly relaxing holiday. There is enough to keep you entertained in the village itself from crabbing from the pontoon, fishing from the beach, boat hire, sailing school, waterside pub and cafe, village shop, playground and fabulous beach walks at low tide. Dittisham is also a great base from which to explore. Ring the bell to call the ferry which will take you across the water to Greenway, Agatha Christie's holiday residence or take the 30 minute ferry ride that runs in to Dartmouth throughout the year.

Agatha Christie eat your heart out
A truly stunning location with 180 degree outlook of the water and river craft. Well equipped kitchen/dining, cosy sitting room with log fire and comfortable beds. Fishing direct from the terrace provided dinner one night. The access via the rear the of property, required when the tide is in, is treacherous when wet (we had 2 accidents). Overall though, one of the highlights of our 5 week UK trip.
It was glorious to look out onto the water and watch the boats loved using the ferries and not having to go near the car for a week! The house suited our group very well. We were a little shocked by how many steps there were if we needed to access the house when the tide was in. Having said that it wasn’t hard to adapt our plans so that we only went out when the shore was not under water!
Smugglers Cottage peaceful, comfortable with amazing views
Smugglers cottage is very peaceful, well organised and cosy with wonderful views over the river Dart. It was the perfect holiday for my family who love watersports. The rooms were spacious, comfortable with the lovely log fire of an evening. I would certainly like to book the holiday again.

Absolutely amazing cottage with outstanding views and warm and cosy. The perfect weekend away
Smugglers cottage was absolutely incredible. It was warm and cosy and decorated beautifully as a traditional cottage should be. Had the best sleep in the extremely comfortable beds and everything was very clean. I arrived with 6 friends and two dogs for my birthday weekend and we were all blown away by the views and surrounding areas. We felt very private and isolated in the cottage even though other cottages and a pub were very close by which is exactly what we wanted! I couldn’t recommend this place any higher and already considering booking again in the near future. Felt like a home from home and the dining room was perfect for catering for large dinner parties. 10/10. Thanks Sarah for having us stay :)

Delightful, well appointed, roomy with very comfortable beds and bedding.
Wonderful position on the waterfront, house is well organised for managing the high tides. Warm and comfortable with good hot water supply. Owners and cleaners very helpful and friendly. Recommend this cottage, especially if you like being close the water and enjoy watersports. Dart River Authority helpful when organising boat storage and moorings. Local pub excellent with good hearty food. Good walks and area to visit.

Had a lovely family holiday with 3 generations under 1 roof.
Smugglers Cottage was ideal for the family with sailing and walking interests, and not too far from the beaches for the kids. We particularly appreciated being able to leave our mirror dinghy at the top of the shoreline,so very easy to launch it, and we enjoyed swimming in the river at the end of a long, hot day.

Smugglers Cottage is the pride and joy of the Andrew family. We are a large and close family consisting of Grandpa, his 2 sons and daughter, aunties and uncles and all their children.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with Smugglers Cottage and it's incredible and unique location when we happened to moor up in front of it whilst on a family sailing holiday.
What makes this property unique
We love the peace and quiet and beautiful views, there is nothing better than sitting on the terrace with a glass of wine or cup of tea watching the boats go by.
