Immaculate 3 Bed 3 Bath Holiday Home in Beautiful Gardens: Grove Cottages
The cottage is set in a secluded spot in the charming hamlet of West Buckland, a short walk from Bantham and the beach.
We have a 4 night minimum stay, with a 15% discount applied automatically for stays of 7 nights or more.
Grove Cottages is our family holiday home which we completely renovated for our personal use in 2008, and now keep it maintained to the highest standards. The house is furnished with original art work and a mixture of modern and restored vintage furniture, it has a large private wooded garden which we have been returning to its former glory since 2004 including installing two large ponds. In summer guests are welcome to take herbs and vegetables from the raised beds plus sweet peas/dahlias from the cut flower beds.
We have sun loungers in the garden and there are two large patios furnished for outside eating with a gas BBQ, open fireplace and a big Jamie Oliver wood-fired pizza oven. Wifi is accessible throughout the cottage.
The cottage is conveniently located for Bantham beach and estuary where it is possible to go surfing, sailing, kayaking, swimming, fishing and 'rock pooling' in a wonderful unspoilt environment. Thurlestone is also very close and here you will find, golf, tennis, a hotel (for spa treatments, fine dining and cream teas), pub, Post Office and shop.
At the front of the cottage there is one acre of woodland gardens with two ponds (and a resident family of Moorhens), vegetable plot, pizza oven and a large patio with dining table and chairs. Part of this garden is wild with Woodpeckers, Buzzards, Nuthatches, Dunnocks and lots of other lovely woodland birds and there is a small stream running at the bottom.
At the rear of the cottage the garden sits above the house and there is a big deck and terrace which are perfect for sitting out and watching the sun set. Once night falls, there is outside lighting and a fireplace ready to be lit so you can be warm while watching the shooting stars and satellites travel overhead.
There is plenty of parking - to the side and in front of the cottage plus overflow spaces in the garden (well out of sight of the house !).
Please note- Access to the EV charger is slightly tricky - you need to be relatively nimble to access it (we can and are in our 60s, but it is not straightforward). The EV charger is priced separately at £35 per week/short stay.
The cottage and its garden are strictly no-smoking. One dog (less than 25 kg) is welcome if it is over two years old, house trained, clean, well-behaved and up-to-date with flea and tick prevention treatment. We ask that you keep your dog out of the bedrooms/off the furniture and that you do not leave it in the property unattended. An additional charge of £60 per stay/week is priced separately.

This was our second stay at the property. On both occasions we found the property excellent. The house and gardens are beautiful, as is the surrounding area. We hope to return again in the future.

we are delighted you had a great stay at our cottage and look forward to hosting you again
We had a wonderful stay in this beautiful spacious property close to fantastic Bantham beach. We especially loved the gardens which were stunning and great to relax in the evening sunshine.
We had a lovely time in this beautiful house, which is located approximately 20 minutes walk from Bantham beach on a very quiet road. It's very well equipped with a great kitchen and an amazing garden. The communication with the owners was very straightforward.

Stunning location, beautiful house and gardens. Perfect size for our group, would highly reccommend.
A truely fantastic rental, easy to find and a brief walk from the beach. Beautifully decorated house with plenty of space and lots of social areas for dining and relaxing inside and out. I would definitely stay again!
We loved Grove Cottages, a stunning property with beautiful gardens. So much space and everything you need to live comfortably for the week.
There are lots of places to visit from here or you can stay home and take your time to enjoy your surroundings, cook dinner on the bbq or use the pizza oven.
Would love to stay again some day.

Delighted you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back
These ancient cottages are built in the side of a small valley and have been lovingly and beautifully done up. The interior is modern, tasteful, but in keeping. Although the bedrooms are small the downstairs is really spacious, very comfortable, well designed, full of light and incredibly well equipped (but bring a couple of smaller saucepans if you think you might need them as they are all HUGE!). The gardens are an absolute joy, nestled up against the lush little Devon hills and full of flowers, birdsong and quiet. Hard to tear ourselves away...

Hi Katrina
Delighetd you had a good time at our cottage, and I will check up on the saucepan situation as there should be at least 2 small saucepans there, not sure where they have disappeared to !
We hope to see you again
Grove cottages is a lovely quality home, not just a ‘holiday cottage’. Only real downside is the narrow lanes closest to it, but that applies to much of the area. As well as parking space alongside outbuilding across the lane and a narrow slope at the side of the cottage (where the electric car charger is), there’s more private parking behind a gate at the end of the garden, just out of view of the cottage. Large well-equipped kitchen and helpful to have three toilets and showers; all had decent power. The upstairs bathroom is very spacious, though upstairs double and twin bedrooms on the small side. (But had more wardrobe hangers than usual, though we used some of our own too). Internet fine, not city super-fast, but couldn’t expect that! No pavement so anyone walking past is right next to the windows, but only a few did on our visit (June half-term). Looking out from the kitchen you look over the lane to the garden, which is great. Behind that is a strip of woodland also owned by the house; beyond/above this the land rises so you do see the backs of houses on the other side, but being higher up they’re not too close. Garden across the lane is fantastic and we saw ducks and pheasant. Lawn, pond, stream, pizza oven there, more garden with raised patio and bbq up some (narrow) steps behind the cottage. We didn’t cook outside but did use the car charging point - a little awkwardly positioned for a larger car, but do-able. Owner helpful, responsive to queries.
Absolutely lovely property. Photographs do not do it justice. The best equipped cottage that I have stayed in uk and abroad in 35 years of renting self catering properties. 15 minutes walk to superb beach. Watched wonderful sunset at Bantham beach on our last night followed by dinner at the sloop inn before walking back to the cottage by torchlight. Fortunately it’s downhill on the way back!!
A spacious cottage with beautiful gardens. We really enjoyed our week here. The kitchen is well equipped and there is plenty of space both inside and outside the property to make it an ideal base. The WiFi was good and the short walks into Bantham we’re really pleasant. We like this side of Hope Cove and this property made the stay a great one.
We had a great time and thoroughly enjoyed the BBQ and pizza oven. We had a few queries during the stay which were answered very promptly and helpfully. All in all a great little holiday. Thank you
The photos don't do it justice. Gardens are lovely. The house is better equipped than most and certainly has the best equipped kitchen we have ever seen in over 20 years of renting holiday cottages. Its very clean, well kept and maintained.
There was a minor issue which was sorted promptly by the handy man. The gardener let us have some produce.
If you have young children, the only caveat would be the minor road between the house and garden. Unfortunately, some idiots think its OK to rush along there at 30+miles an hour. But we would also mention that there are probably no more than 20 cars passing on the busiest week day!
Wonderful location, spacious, clean and comfortable. We had a superb week. Slept well and loved the walk to the beach. Gardens were lovely. We will return. Thank you

Beautiful and comfortable cottage
We had a great time here - the house was very clean, warm and comfortable. The gardens - yes, two of them - were a real joy. Exquisitely beautiful, deepest Devon countryside on the doorstep with walks along the coast too, so a wonderful location for a holiday.

Fantastic 'away from it all' cottage
My wife and I, our son 10 and daughter 9 had a brilliant time during the Easter half term at Grove Cottages. I would say that the photos do not do it justice!
It is a very comfortable and well equipped cottage set down a country lane. You are not overlooked and apart from the very occasional car, it is very peaceful.
The cottage itself is nicely presented, characterful but with enough modern touches to make the stay an even more relaxed one. The front garden is large and beautifully landscaped with a stream and pond. Our kids spent a number of occasions playing on the lawn and in an around the stream. The wood burner was lovely to sit around in the evenings. For the connected generation, the wifi was excellent for somewhere so remote and this kept the kids happy on occasions.
A 15-20 minute walk takes you to Bantham or Thurlestone beaches and we also enjoyed a number of lovely runs in the local area.
Highly recommended and we hope to return!

An idyllic retreat
Dear Ruth Hatton,
Your West Buckland house is a gorgeous home away from home ! Very tasteful, comfortable furnishings provide a warm and welcoming interior which is a delight to return to when out and about on a cold winter's day. We had a wonderful Xmas luncheon with family in your marvellously appointed kitchen and thoroughly enjoyed all our days at Grove Cottages. We have already passed on to others our high recommendations. Thank you for opening your lovely home to us.
With kind regards,
Armande van Stom & Graham Hoade

Fabulous!
This is such a beautiful property in a glorious location.
We have stayed at many rental properties and this has to be the best equipped that we've found - wine and milk in the fridge, logs and kindling for the fire, more kitchen equipment than we own!
It was a delight to stay here - and Ruth was very helpful at all times.

Beautiful property in relaxing location. Every amenity provided. Cottage & grounds immaculate
We loved our stay here whilst attending a family wedding in nearby Kingsbridge & Bantham. After the wedding we stayed on for the rest of the week for a family break and to catch up with relatives living in Chillington. Our timetable was dictated by a 5 month old baby (& 48 hrs of Devon rain)so we didn't get out as much as we usually do and it was lovely to have a spacious cottage for 5 adults and the gardens too. A recommended walk for all abilities is from the cottage to Thurlestone and along the costal path through the golf course to Bantham beach which was about 90 minutes with lovely views and an ice cream or tea/coffee at the outside cafe at Bantham before the final bit to home.

Grove Cottage West Buckland
Being a family party of 5 (ages 50 something to 86 ) this property offered everything we could have wished for. Immaculate in every sense of the word, both the cottage and the gardens were so thoughtfully created. The kitchen was so well equipped we'd challenge anyone not to find exactly the right utensils for the job. There was even an aga, on which we made the most wonderful casserole and jacket potatoes---m-m-m! Our weather was a little mixed but we did get to sit outside on several occasions, the quite was only broken by the sounds of the pheasants. We need to return to make pizza in the pizza oven. Perfect.
The area is stunning, so much to see and places to visit. We returned home feeling very happy, relaxed and planning our next trip to Devon.

Repeat stay as we loved it so much
Another lovely stay in this beautiful house. Weather wasn't as warm as last year so we didn't make as much use of the gardens although they were great with everything coming into flower. The gardens are on different levels with plenty of suntraps - just needed to be a few degrees warmer. Plenty to keep us occupied with walks along the headlands and visits to the local pubs- very steep hills and very dark at night so take torches!
Kitchen is wonderfully equipped and we enjoyed using the AGA for casseroles and roasts.
Love the peace and quiet.
