About this property

Caerhays Apartment With Outdoor Pool And Gardens In Historic Mansion House

A unique space to relax and unwind, offering a spacious lounge/dining room with TV, freeview and DVD player. There is a bedroom with king sized bed, and enough space for an additional bed for a younger child. Your kitchen has everything you should need to prepare your meals, unless of course you decide to spoil yourself at any of the wonderful eateries in Looe and Polperro. The bathroom has a shower over the bath and all of the usual facilities.
Caerhays apartment has its own entrance from the car parking courtyard and easy access to the beautiful gardens. There are secluded spots to relax and read, enjoy a glass of wine orsoak up the sunshine. Our heated outdoor pool is available from the late May bank holiday weekend until the end of August/early September. Enjoy an energising swim and then dry off on the loungers.
We have a games barn with pool, table tennis and air hockey.
Our location is convenient for Looe and Polperro, Fowey, the Eden Project and the Lost Gardens of Heligan. There are multiple gorgeous National Trust properties to explore. Lanhydrock, Cotehele, Saltram and Anthony are some of my favourites.
Horse riding, golf, and watersports are all available locally and of course, walking the south west coast path is simply stunning.
Lanreath village is really pretty and peaceful. Our village shop is community run, within walking distance and open mornings only.y. You can enjoy a drink at The Tipsy Cow with views over the moors in the distance. There are also events here and delicious burgers on Thursday evening. Our historic village pub, The Punchbowl Inn has just been refurbished and serves food daily.
We have an EV charger.

Cold.

The Owners are very Polite & Welcoming, Cream Tea on arrival most welcome. Gardens are nice & big so those with Dogs can Stretch their legs. Apartment 'Pleasant ' but it was Very Cold & the Bathroom could do with updating (rubber bath slip mat was mouldy - easily replaced for what they cost) !!

Thank you for your comments. The bathroom mat has already been replaced. They do not seem to last very long and I am trialling a different type. I apologise that it was not replaced before your stay. The apartment has both central heating available and an oil filled electric radiator. I seem to recall April suddenly becoming cold after you arrived following a warm spell. I am sorry that you felt you struggled with the temperature in the apartment. I guess if you travelled with a light wardrobe expecting warmer ambient air temperatures that may have contributed - once again, my apologies. Julie

Shame about the damp

Property grounds are lovely, however as soon as we opened the apartment door we were greeted with a smell of damp. This did not improve at all. We had to wash all clothing that had not been worn upon return home, as it smelt. Some items in kitchen drawer were rusty and seen better days. Being unable to have hot water to wash up in the kitchen we found strange. Boiling kettles all the time ( at owners request) was far from ideal. Such a shame, the location is lovely but property tired. After a heavy nights rain the furniture felt damp. Unfortunately we would not stay here again.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We were sorry that you were disappointed in the apartment. Cornwall is a humid county and the property over 200 years old. Unless windows are opened and the extractor fans used in the kitchen and bathroom, apartments without a throughput of air can develop humidity issues - we do provide a dehumidifier in the apartment you stayed in to reduce this. Thank you for alerting me to some items in the kitchen which require replacement - it is easy to miss these when cleaners are busy and I shall go through the drawers and replace anything which is tired. I think you misunderstood the hot water suggestions. Instructions are provided for you to put the hot water on if you wish or we are happy to come and do it for you if you prefer. This is all clearly stated in the notice on the hall door. Our eco credentials encourage energy efficiency and for that reason we boil a kettle to wash up rather than heat a tank of water. Guests can choose the method they prefer whilst they are with us; we are just trying to show environmental responsibility

Too cold and humid to be comfortable

Buena ubicacion y espacioso

I am saddened that you did not enjoy your stay here with us and even more so that you did not mention your concerns during your stay. It would have been easy to show you how to adjust the heating to suit your needs, had we known they were not being met. Caerhays guests have control over the heating for their apartment. As to the comment regarding the photographs, it is difficult to see how these cannot be representative. We would like to reassure future guests reading this review that all of the photos shown on the advertisement for Caerhays apartment are of the property itself externally (The Old Rectory) and of Caerhays apartment within it.

very good place to stay. would recommend

The apartment was brilliant in the fact that it was clean and had every thing in there that one would need, if I could criticise any thing, it would be the TV Signal was rubbish, and you have to drive where ever you wanted to go.

Hi Nicky, Thank you for your review. My only regret is that you did not mention the issue you had with the TV signal. There is a booster box in the lounge and I bet someone before you had turned it off. A very easy fix which I will check and rectify now. There is a nice lane walk from the house - in my view the peace, quiet, seclusion and views more than make up for the need to drive to attractions. Take care and thank you for visiting us, Julie

Old rectory building set in fantastic peaceful gardens.

We an are active older couple and stayed in a ground floor appartment overlooking the beautifully laid out gardens, which are lovely to sit and enjoy an early morning coffee and a read of a book or newspaper or have a wander round. The appartment was spacious and furnished well with everything you need provided. The bedroom was well furnished with pretty bedding and curtains. There is a local shop where you can get newspapers, and supplies within a few minutes walk. Though we tended to eat out during the day for our main meals. The availability of the pool was a good addition to have .Due to Covid restrictions the pool was booked the day prior to use and each appartment had a limit of 90 minutes a day which was a fantastic way to ensure the safety of everyone .It was a lovely place to spend having a lunch time swim on one ofour laid back days. In our opinion it is a lovely place to stay for any age group.

Safe & comfortable

Felt relaxed at property even though on my own, far enough from holiday hotspots to feel safe in current pandemic. Very good covid measures in place & owner checks you're ok, nice touch. The walls of the property are really thick so was grateful for the fire I could use as chilly in evenings. Post office/shop afew mins walk away was well stocked & open mornings. Walking round village people were very friendly. Now I'm on my own I'd know I could stay there ok. Gardens are lovely, there is a laundry too. Didnt use the pool but owners had a really good system for guests to book sessions

Lovely apartment, excellent stay

My friend and our dogs had a lovely stay here - the host was superb and communicated excellently with us from the minute we first enquired. The apartment was perfect for us and exactly as described and the outside pool was a real bonus we thoroughly enjoyed. We got a pleasant surprise when we discovered the bed was considerably bigger than advertised and slept very well. The village is very pretty, but there is absolutely nothing to do there! You have to drive to get anywhere, which is the only downside of the location. But the apartment, gardens and facilities were superb.

Thank you for your review - we are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. I agree, the village is quiet, but that is what lends it the quintessential Cornish charm. We hope one day that the village pub may re-open and there are walks down the country lanes should you choose to take them. Many attractions and the coast are just a short drive away and the advantage is being able to return to the quiet locatiion we love here. There is also a bar behind the village hall and of course, the village shop for supplies. Our closest pub is currently a drive away at 2 miles, but welcomes dogs and does serve delicious food.
