Riverview is a genuine Highland Cottage, traditionally built around 1890 with solid two foot thick walls. The cottage is detached and arranged on one level with easy access throughout.
Set in the quiet location of Strathnacro, just outside the small village of Balnain, RiverView is less than 3 miles from the popular tourist centre of Drumnadrochit and the famous Loch Ness. A further 20 minutes away, a beautiful drive along the shores of Loch Ness, is the vibrant Highland Capital of Inverness.
Whether you're looking for a quiet retreat with deserted country walks and abandoned beaches, or action packed climbing, mountain and quad biking, horse riding or sailing - RiverView Cottage will be your perfect base.
Nearby Inverness has excellent long distance transport links, from which RiverView Cottage can be reached via public transport.
Acquired in 2011 and run by a local trust for the benefit of two Inverness school boys, Riverview has been operated as a holiday let for almost thirty years.
Riverview cottage will comfortably accommodate four people in two bedrooms.
The kitchen, lounge and master bedroom are all dual aspect rooms, making the cottage a cosy but light and airy place to be.
The lounge has a feature fireplace with the thick walls retaining heat in the winter but keeping it cool in the summer.
The kitchen has been recently refitted with modern wall and base units and is well equipped while also providing room for dining.
You will find one double bedroom and one twin bedroom along with a shower room fitted with the usual electric shower, toilet, sink and shaver points.
Outside you have a private garden ground to the rear as well as side and front garden with established borders, trees and shrubs. There is a private drive with parking space enough for three or four cars. There is drive in drive out access, so no awkward reversing and turning.
Riverview cottage also benefits from it's own small area of woodland leading to the banks of the river Enrick.
The cottage is run on the simple premise of keeping life easy and honest.
As a holiday destination we must apologise that we do not take business or commercial lets.
DISABLED ACCESS: There are no specific disabled modifications and no wheelchair access. But RiverView is all on one level with two small steps at the entrance and a very small step between lounge and entrance hall. We have though recently added grab handles at the front door and in the shower, as these will assist our more ‘senior’ guests.

Very comfortable and cosy cottage in a beautiful quiet location. Well equipped kitchen. A short drive to the lovely village of Drumnadrochit and beautiful Loch Ness. Would definitely recommend.
Cozy little cottage that was perfect for exploring the gorgeous surrounding area. Adrian was a wonderful host and easy to communicate with. Only downsides were the fire alarm going off in the middle of our last night and some bees that snuck their way in, but things happen and did not affect our overall stay. We would happily be back!

Thank you Alexandra. We've had the bees dealt with and tested the alarms, so hopefully we'll get that fifth star if you are able to come back. We're pleased that you enjoyed your stay here in the Highlands.
It is a precious cottage, humble but comfortable. It is not fancy, but we had everything we needed. The only thing I would note is that the written directions for how to find it were very difficult to follow.

Thank you so much Shannon, what a lovely description. We'll have another wee look at the directions and see of we can make it any clearer, but it is a bit hidden away.
Had a wonderful time staying at the cottage. Everything we needed was provided, and we really appreciated getting away from the city for a spell. Thank you, Adrian!
Cosy conveniently situated and very reasonable cottage
This cottage is cosy, well equipped and and in an ideal situation for exploring the surrounding area. It is very reasonably priced. The only drawback is that it is situated near a road on which the cars speed by, about 10-12 an hour, which disturbs the peace of this beautiful spot.

Thank you for your kind review. To be fair the road averages a couple of cars an hour, peaking at 10 or more if you’re home at busy times. The advantage in the Highlands of being near a regularly used road is that we have better services and guaranteed access, even during bad weather (snow, tree falls, rock slides etc).
Fantastic wee property, comfy, cosy and clean, thoroughly enjoyed our 10 day stay, well equiped, nice garden area to chill in, spacious inside, particularly liked the drive in drive out exits, pretty woodland area leading to the river. Great base for Inverness, Fort Augustus & Glen Affric where we enjoyed some great hiking opportunities, plenty of Munro's to tick off the list.
Cute and warm little cottage, fully equipped with anything you might need for a stay. Slightly dated but reflective in cost.
The only thing I would say is negative is the shower. Watch out for the deer in the field opposite.
The property was not cleaned before our stay. Lots of lice on carpets, black mould and cobwebs on walls, dust, dirt and an empty condom wrapper. Tried contacting the host on arrival, who was rude, aggressive and unwilling to discuss organising a clean - stating this standard was acceptable.

We regret your feelings on this Lizzi. I'm sure that other readers will see that your comments are vey out of step with other reviews and they should also be aware that you did not in fact stay at or even visit the cottage. We note that Vrbo did not uphold your complaint and no refund was given. Readers should be aware that this was a business let which is against our policy. You sent your employees to say in this self catering holiday let and they were clearly unhappy that you had not provided them with fully serviced hotel accommodation. We will be careful to vet rentals more closely in the future to ensure that no other businesses slip through the net. We hope your employees found more appropriate accommodation where their demands could be met. Thank you, Adrian.
Our only advice is that the bunk beds in the second bedroom are unsuitable for adults. The mattresses are designed for children and so are the widths. Otherwise we very much appreciated our stay

Thank you for your kind review, we very much like that we are able to contribute to people having a good holiday. I guess with the bunk beds it does depend upon the size of the adult, I hadn’t really thought of that before.
We used the cottage as a base, we were out and about most days. The cottage was cold in evening as the heating didn’t come on until we had gone to bed. We used the electric fire to warm the place up. Fr the most part we were very happy with the cottage. If enough for just the two of us. TV and tv signal was a let down 17” monitor really not good Bed was comfy with nice clean bedding. Shower was poor, low pressure with a shower head that refused to stay upright. We kept dehumidifier on 24/7 as requested and was emptying it up to 3 times a day, you could smell damp when entering the cottage but not over powering. On the whole we were happy with our stay and good value for money

Thank you for your review and feedback. The heating control is at your disposal with instructions provided in the booklet, we can even adjust it for you remotely. I'm sorry that wasn't ideal for you and left you feeling some dampness also. We find that some guests appreciate that the small TV encourages them to dive into the various games and books that are also provided, but it doesn't suit everybody of course. We are pleased that you enjoyed your stay. Thank you.
This spacious cottage felt like a home from home, and lived up to all our expectations. We appreciated the the little touches provided by Adrian. It was spotlessly clean and very well equipped, and my wife really appreciated the excellent lighting for reading and painting in the evenings. The bed was very comfortable and we slept like logs after our long walks during the day. This is an excellent base for touring this beautiful area with no shortage of interesting places to visit.
A beautiful, quaint little cottage, in a fantastic location, really quiet and relaxed, but only a short drive to Loch Ness exhibition and Urquhart Castle. I'm so glad we decided to stay here rather than our original plan of staying in Inverness, so much charm and character, we loved it.
Arrival was easy clear instructions (no face to face - Covid)
a really cosy cottage nice and warm and good location, very clean and well furnished with wifi tv and xbox thing plus many books etc,
Our host is most pleasent met him on one occasion ( our choice - he tries to leave people alone )
We will most definately be going back again as such a great location for day drives out to many awesome places like Isle of Skye, Applecross, Inverness etc,
The property was overall very good. It could have been cleaner but for the most part it was very enjoyable. Managers of cottage were great to work with.
The cottage is well maintained and the listing very accurate. It was slightly more compact than expected which made out stay a bit of a challenge at times. It is a great location and outlook but not really suitable for families with infants and toddlers. It was our poor selection rather than a problem with the cottage.

Thank you for your kind review. As a single parent of two boys, older now, I well recall the challenges of toddlerhood. We’ve tried to make RiverView a safe environment for youngsters but it isn’t toddler-proofed. I’m sure I’m the first to say that as they get older it doesn’t exactly get easier, it’s just that the challenges change :)

I'm afraid Mr P wouldn't know if it was any good because he didn't stay. Having booked, then cancelled, then booked again, then tried to cancel yet again - he was upset to find that he did not entirely meet with our approval.
We are pleased to say that the vast majority of our guests are kind and caring of our cottage and we thank you. To fall out with just one 'non' guest over several years isn't such a bad rate. And so we refuse to be upset by this pettiness.
We wish you good luck Mr P and hope that you will try to be a little more organised, and a little less revengeful.

Relaxing 😌
The cottage is in a quiet location, but you do hear passing traffic from 6am to 9 am as it’s single glazed, otherwise lovely location. The cottage has everything you need for you stay with lots of books and games . There is also a lot of leaflets about the surrounding areas so you can plan your days. There are a good variety of shops in Inverness for your supplies as well as places to eat. We had a lovely stay , very relaxing and the area is beautiful.

Converted older cottages. A little on the small side for four adults.
A nice quite spot.Clean and tidy.
Shame that telephone reception is poor/not possible. Pay phone available . But my brother had to ring Australia to sort finances out and four pounds went now where near sorting it. So he had to ring using my mobile from Drumnadrochit service station and I now find that call cost me 46 pounds !
TV controls are quite confusing.
Not sure why the hot water dropped out that night ! David was available to talk to about it. It was corrected somehow by the next morning.
