Pretty house in Medieval village with castle views

'Maison Bleue' is located in the Medieval village of Puilaurens and has superb views of the Cathar castle.It accommodates 8 people over 3 floors with bathrooms at the top and base of the house. A centrally located kitchen and lounge area leads out onto a sunny terrasse, perfect for barbeques. This area overlooks the ancient village and river from the balcony, as well as the castle looking upwards(it is illuminated at night).
In the lower outside space there is a special place to play the popular game of boules, with a demarcated boules piste. The house is light and airy and decorated in a modern but traditoinal style. The dishwasher makes life convenient for nights in, however a short 15 minute walk down the hill takes you to a couple of good restaurants. The village also has a shop and a bar. A great place to relax within easy reach of Quillan and Carcasonne as well as Perpignan and the coast. The beautiful scenery of the valley is a classic wine growing area. There are places in the vicinity to enjoy wild swimming as well as an outdoor pool 10 minutes away at Axat. A little tourist train takes you through the area in open or closed carriages to enjoy different castles and scenery.

Check in was straight forward. Kitchen facilities were excellent. Wifi access was straightforward. Lovely house, very comfortable and cosy with a decent sized balcony giving a great view of the mountains and the castle. The area was beautiful. Very peaceful and scenic with good access to tourist attractions.

Beautiful setting

This house is set in a beautiful spot in Puilaurens, just below the Chateau. Lovely house with 4 bedrooms, full kitchen and terrace. The sound of the church bells was lovely, too. Instructions provided were very helpful

Schönes Haus - aber....

Dieses Haus ist schön eingerichtet. Ledersofas, große Betten und edle Tische/Stühle. Aber sonst:Es beginnt mit der Schlüsselbox. Diese ist ebenerdig an einem Pfeiler vorm Haus angebracht.(Bild 1) Bei gutem Wetter schon schwer zu erreichen, bei strömendem Regen und knieend fast unmöglich. Ein freundlicher Nachbar half uns dankenswerterweise. Wenn man hereinkommt, steht man im 1. Schlafzimmer mit Dusche, Toilette und Waschmaschine.Im 1. Stock ist dann Küche, Wohn- und Essbereich sowie Terrasse. Die Küche ist schmuddelig und schlecht sortiert: Der Backofen ist dreckig (Bild 2); aus dem Kühlschrank riecht es seltsam süßlich. Der im Kühlschrank angebrachte Ventilator funktioniert nicht – vermutlich daher der Geruch. Die Oberfläche des Kühlschranks ist fettig-schmutzig (Bild 3).Zur Küchenschublade siehe Bild 4. Der grün-weiße Beutel enthält Wäscheklammern! Das tägliche Geschirr ist sehr übersichtlich (Bild 5).Im 2. Stock sind drei weitere Schafzimmer, eine Toilette und Badewanne mit Dusche. Die Dusche samt Schlauch musste erst 'installiert' werden – sie fand sich in einer Kiste unter dem Waschbecken. Die Toilettenbrillen sind schön, aber relativ klein, vermutlich aus Designgründen.Die Treppen sind sehr schmal (Bild 6) und für größere Koffer ungeeignet.Wir haben die Koffer deshalb im Erdgeschoss gelassen. Beim Handlauf für die Treppe mussten die Schrauben nachgezogen werden (Bild7)Wir vermuten, dass die Eigentümer das Haus länger nicht gesehen haben.

nice holiday home at Puilaurens

01.10.-15.10.2022 We (my wife, my three kids [19,14,11] and my parents-in-law) had a very nice stay and truly relaxing holidays. The house is clean (especially both bathrooms were in a perfect condition!), quite nice and well equipped. It's located at the foot of the mountain on which the Puilaurens castle controls the surrounding landscape. Landlady and -lord were very friendly, flexible and accomodating. Contact was very nice and helpful. We can only recommend this location (5*****) and the landlady/-lord (5*****).

De belles vacances à la découverte des Pyrénnées Cathare

Nous avons passé un très agréable séjour dans la maison de Deb et Ian, qui se sont montrés très réactifs lorsque nous les avons contactés pour une réservation tardive. Le gite est parfaitement situé, avec de nombreuses activités à faire à moins d'une demi-heure de route (visite de châteaux forts, le train rouge, musée de la préhistoire, activité aquatique) et beaucoup de jolies randonnées accessibles même avec des enfants petits (3 et 6 ans). La rivière passe juste en bas de la rue, les enfants ont été ravis de s'y mouiller les pieds. Le gite est joli et commode, les murs en pierre gardent l'intérieur relativement frais même lors des fortes chaleurs. Merci pour ce beau séjour !

We are so sorry that you felt this way about a house that we adore and others find ‘perfect’ as explained in other reviews. The humidity smell could be the rock face as you enter or that the house has been shut for a while due to Covid. We can’t quite understand how the stair rope was broken but again we will fix this as safety is paramount for us. In fact, this is why no one came to the house on your arrival. We did not want to take any risks during this very difficult time of Covid infection. The absence of a DVD system is intentional as stated within our description. There is a speaker system for the enjoyment of music. The house is in a very beautiful location which provides its own entertainment. Thank you for feedback that will be acted upon quickly, especially as we intend to visit ourselves as soon as possible.

A nice property at the top of a steep cul de sac, in a quiet tiny village. A lovely view of mountains from the terrace, and walking (uphill!!) distance to the castle which was really interesting.

Great stay

Our family of three had a great time in this house. The location was excellent for us: situated at the end of a quit street in an agreeable little village. We spent a lot of time sitting outside on the patio, admiring the great views on the mountains. We where there during summer and where pleased to find out the area is great for hikes. Communication with Ian and Debra was fast and to the point. We liked this place a lot.

Belle maison, mais glaciale pour une réservation en hiver.

La maison est conforme aux photos, la décoration intérieure est très réussie. Mais l'annonce ne précise pas que le chauffage de la pièce commune au 1er (salon, cuisine, salle à manger) dépend entièrement du poêle à bois (les chambres ont des radiateurs). Il faut prévoir d'apporter ses propres bûches, ce dont le propriétaire nous a prévenus une fois la réservation faite. La montée en température est évidemment un peu longue et la première soirée ainsi que le 1er jour ont été vraiment froids (et les plombs avaient tendance à sauter avec la mise en route du chauffe-eau). Pour la cuisine, pas de grande casserole. Mais le boucher charcutier traiteur d'Axat fait de très bons plats cuisinés. Au total, la location doit surtout être extra en été.
