Inside boasts a fully stocked, updated kitchen with everything you will need, a casual family room with a gas fireplace and tv, dining room/living room with a tv and wood burning fireplace. The cottage is so peaceful and quiet, you may never want to leave. However, if you do, the local area offers quite a bit to do, all year long. In the summer, enjoy floating down the Watauga River, paddle boarding on Julian Price Lake, or renting a boat and swimming in Watauga Lake. If hiking is your thing, enjoy countless hiking trails around the area that offer spectacular views for all levels of hiking. Pack a lunch and enjoy the afternoon trail side. There are several options for zip-lining and cave exploring as well. Also enjoy The Blowing Rock in Blowing Rock as well as Tweetsie Railroad. There is even an alpine slide in Banner Elk and mountain biking off the slopes at Sugar Mountain. You can also hike or attend the animal conservatory at Grandfather Mountain and don’t forget about the Scottish Highland Festival in Linville in mid-July or Tanger Outlets, Tomahawk Hill or Mystery Hill in Blowing Rock. 4th of July parades and firework shows abound in all towns in the High Country. Also there are several options for live theater in Boone and Banner Elk
**please note the only access to the river is at the bridge. All other property along the river is private.
As magical as summer is in the High Country, Fall season gives summer a run for its money. Leaf viewing peaks around the 3rd week in October, but the end of September through the end of October offers some spectacular colors. Get your fall pumpkins at Curiosity on Hwy 105, attend the Woolly Worm Festival in Banner Elk, the Valle Country Fair in Valle Crucis, or take in a football game with Sun Belt conference multi-champions Appalachian State University Mountaineers. Or just stay at the cottage in front of a roaring fire with a pumpkin spice latte.
Winter offers lots of snow sports including a 15-20 minute drive to 3 local ski resorts...Appalachian Mountain, Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain. All 3 offer some of the best skiing on the East Coast. You can also snow-shoe on many of our local trails. Although 2020 was rough for everyone, Mother Nature gave us a perfectly White Christmas. Regardless of your religious affiliation, enjoy a magical, candle-light Christmas Eve service at Holy Cross church in Valle Crucis (come early for seats).

Great place to stay for a mountain family trip. We enjoyed the inside fireplace as well as the fire pit outside. The kitchen is big enough to have multiple people in it at one time - made cooking much more enjoyable!
This property screams NC mountains- old school cottage feel, Watauga river acces, and close enough to town for all your needs. We hit up Tweetsie railroad, Grandfather Winery, and downtown shopping/eating. You won’t be disappointed- book it!

Thanks Brian - glad you had a great time with your family!!!
Cottage was perfect. Only challenge was the bridge to get to the property washed out while we were there, but it was repaired the very next morning. Gould went above and beyond in keeping us informed
Authentic cabin in the woods experience. Cozy, comfortable and warm living areas and a fully stocked kitchen with all the essentials and more. We really had a nice time and spent most of it just hanging out cooking, reading, relaxing, playing games, and watching some holiday football games.
We really enjoyed our stay at the cottage. It’s so historically charming but still very well equipped! My daughter kept saying she felt like Snow White. Gould was a great host and very communicative. The location is great- remote enough to feel like you’re getting away but close enough to all the activities, shopping and restaurants you could want. Would definitely stay there again!
The property is great. Mainly an old log cabin with additions. Plenty of room and we were able to cook meals in the full kitchen. View of the river and front yard were great. Would like to have known more about the access way to the property.
We loved staying here!! It is so beautiful, well kept. They really do have a well stocked kitchen and the fireplace was the perfect addition. I believe one of my friends was already looking at availability for Thanksgiving during our stay because she loved it so much!!
Wonderful restored cabin in beautiful setting. Would definitely stay again.

About the host
Hosted by Gould Workman
We have lived in Boone for 3+ years and love it. We relocated form out-of-state and can't imagine living anywhere else. Gould is a local real estate broker and Courtney is a special-ed teacher in the local district. We have 5 kids, 3 are grown and 2 still at home. In our spare time we own 2 small businesses housed in the Curiosity shop in Boone...Pig Goes to Market (home decor, gifts, and antiques) and Cornflower (classic women's apparel). We have had a blast designing our rental home and hope you will enjoy all the details that have gone into this endeavor.
