8/10 Good

The Buttery Good but not Luxury

The property was basic, not luxury as advertised. There was no dishwasher (as advertised) two chairs fell apart (but were instantly replaced). There was no instant heating and the Under Floor heating and towel rail did not work or were turn off away from the property, (it was the last full week of May & was very cold). There was also excessive noise from the adjacent occupied property. I understand that all three let’s can be converted into one holiday let but when our “neighbours “ had a parting till 1 in the morning they may as well have been in our property. The stairs from lounge to bedroom level are steep and possibly not appropriate for those with stair climbing issues and the 3 steps from lounge to kitchen are also steep and without a handrail! The fridge froze our food and although we adjusted the controls we never achieved an optimum fridge temperature and the freezer as actually located in a separate building and was 1 shelf of a 3 shelf communal freezer, not exactly user friendly. Two minor points, the tin opener failed (we borrowed from the neighbours) and some of the cutlery was very cheap with edges unsuitable for eating with. The views were great as was the general silence. The cows also provided a lot of entertainment along with many other animals (foxes, rabbits, buzzards, goldfinches etc). The location relative to the A14 and Ipswich was also good; close but never in sight or heard. I would not rule out us returning to the Buttery, but it is most definitely not luxury and significant sound insulation is required between the three holiday units. In its current form I can not recommend this property to others.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review following your stay at The Buttery. We passed on your comments to the homeowner who was disappointed to read that you had had difficulty with the heating and fridge. As you found with her providing two replacement chairs during your stay, she would have been very happy to assist with the heating and fridge had she been made aware of the difficulties you encountered. We were sorry to hear that you were disturbed by the guests in the neighbouring property. Obviously, we don't have much control over things like this but wouldn't wish guests to be disturbed. The tin opener has been replaced. The homeowner was disappointed that you felt the cutlery was cheap as this is not the case. The Shotley Peninsula is a beautiful place to stay and there are some stunning walks along the river with lots of opportunities for seeing wildlife and I am so pleased that you were able to see some. We do hope that we can welcome you back to Suffolk in the future.

Peaceful hideaway with amazing rural views

The Buttery was perfect for the short, away-from-it-all break I was looking for... and the views over fields and woods were wonderful. The cottage (one of three rental properties) is a great mix of clean modern design and rustic charm, and while it's set on a working farm, it's very quiet. I enjoyed my morning chats - tea in hand - with the cows in the paddock around the corner!
