The region
Peace, tranquillity and nature are available at Oare Manor Cottage and its surrounds in equal measure. Exmoor is truly a unique area in England where rugged coastline meets the outstanding beauty of the moors and surrounding countryside. Nothing else in England comes close to matching the fantastic contrasting scenery that you will find in this stunning place. Exmoor National Park is an area of 267 square miles and the valley in which the cottage sits is entirely peaceful with absolutely no noise or light pollution. You can sit in the garden and marvel at the complete peacefulness, the total lack of road noise, the absence of aircraft noise and a sense of tranquillity that is increasingly hard to find.

From the rugged coastline that features the highest cliffs in England to the moors that rise up to 1500 ft this is not surprisingly a paradise for wild birds and animals. There is even the possibility of spotting one of the beasts of Exmoor, a breed of Big Cat closely associated with the Puma that is believed to be not merely present but quite probably increasing in number. Though seldom seen there are plenty of photographs of their footprints and evidence from farmers that the Big Cat is alive and well in this part of the world. But you are far more likely to see the wild red deer, the Exmoor Ponies that roam freely over the moor, kestrels, snipe, and along the coastline rare peregrine falcons, curlews and even oyster catchers. In the rivers you could be lucky enough to see otters which at one time were close to extinction but are now making a comeback.

The location of the property provides stunning views across and along the valley - being higher up you do not feel hemmed in nor lose the sun early. The house was spotlessly clean with lovely touches such as fresh flowers in the rooms. Our bed was huge and very comfortable - so we woke refreshed to that stunning view. The house and garden are also very private and secure for the dogs. Having been given a low occupancy discount we were very happy with the accommodation provided although I think I might have been less so had we been a group of eight paying full price.

Fabulous cottage. We arrived as the darkness was setting in; the lights and the heating had been put on - what a wonderful welcome. The cottage has the "wow" factor. Spotlessly clean and warm (which can often not be the case); each room furnished in keeping with the era of the cottage. The only thing that surpassed the beauty of the cottage was the absolutely stunning location. What a gem of a place. A wonderful week had by my husband and myself and our two dogs. Thank you to all concerned for a most enjoyable week.

Wonderful cottage. A rare gem. Has everything you could possibly need during your stay. For us the peace and quiet were paramount and we certainly found it here. An enclosed garden for our dog was also important and this one was delightful. The surrounding countryside is breathtaking with plenty of wildlife to observe.

Lovely old house in a beautiful, peaceful location on Exmoor - but still within easy reach of the main A39 to Porlock/Lynmouth. The house is very well equipped - everything you need is provided. It is very comfortable and welcoming and well positioned for some excellent walks on the moor. Wonderful welcome pack!

This was our second stay ,so its fair to say that we are in love with Oare cottage and its magnificent location ! It was wonderful to be in this peaceful location with everthing we needed to relax ,a warm house ,the best valley ,walks on our doorstep ….All our needs were met , we sat in the conservatory on rainy days ,relaxed in the sitting room and that huge bed was wonderful .I loved the horses in the field ,hearing the birds in the morning and feeling far away from the busy world . This house makes you feel at home very quickly ,just what you want on holiday .Loved all the little touches too ,bathrobes ,shampoo etc felt luxurious .Again will be back hopefully at a Christmas time ,I am dreaming about this .Thankyou .

To arrive on a very wet and wild day to find a warm house with welcoming lights and a wonderful welcome basket was all we could ask for. Everything else was a bonus and although the house is in a secluded spot, the main road is literally five minutes away, so nowhere was that far We would definitely recommend and would return in a heartbeat

This house was perfect for us. It is in a gorgeous setting and is decorated tastefully. The room layout worked very well for our group (two families). Relatively quick access both to Porlock and Lynton/Lynmouth. Really, it was all one could hope for, and we hope to come back some day.

We had a wonderful time at Oare Manor Cottage. Such a beautiful, spacious and well-equipped house, with a beautiful garden and fantastic views all around. We loved Lynton and Lynmouth (particularly the walk to the Valley of Rocks). Also did a lovely walk from Bossington to Selworthy Beacon and down to Selworthy and Allerford - fantastic views, and trips to Dunster Castle and Minehead. Loved the welcome basked too - many thanks!

A lovely spacious house with character (as you can see in the photos). We were 3 adults and 4 teenagers and there were lots of spaces to come together or to find some peace and quiet. Comfy beds. Opportunity to eat in conservatory or garden, which has lovely views. Nearest shop for milk etc. is Cloud Farm Campsite, or 15-20 min drives to Porlock or Lynton. Lots of great walks (including to pubs) and bike rides from the house, and it is about 1 hour on foot to a pebble beach (big hills both ways) where we went twice and met nobody.
