A peaceful ground floor apartment within our refurbished Sussex barn.
With two double bedrooms, lounge, galleried dining area, bathroom and laundry room, the self contained suite of rooms is situated on the ground floor of our beautiful Sussex barn. Guests can sit by the lake, or use the garden, with its patio area and barbecue, while enjoying wonderful far reaching views across the countryside.
Heartwood Barn sits on the edge of the popular village of Ticehurst, with its award winning pub and restaurant, The Bell. Set as we are within an Area of Outstanding Beauty, there are many beautiful walks to be enjoyed. Bewl Water is a few minutes’ away on foot, or a short car journey takes you to Bedgebury Pinetum, Scotney Castle, Bodium Castle and the wonderful gardens at Sissinghurst and Great Dixter. But with a complete change of mood, the bustling town of Royal Tunbridge Wells is only twenty minutes by car and London can be accessed easily from the mainline station in the neighbouring village of Wadhurst.
The south coast is a pleasant drive away, through the leafy lanes. The ancient Cinque Port town of Rye is a ‘must see’, while we are especially lucky to have so many great fish and other restaurants to sample at the resorts along the coast... towns such as Brighton, Hastings, Lewes, Eastbourne and Bexhill. Heartwood will provide you with a peaceful, comfortable, country retreat to return to after a busy day’s local sight seeing.
We provide quality bed linen and towels, a housekeeping service, plus a ‘welcome’ basket of local produce to introduce you to the area. We love where we live and we hope you will, too!

The host greeted us and left homemade bread, cupcakes, and breakfast items which were nice to have. The property was beautiful, well maintained, and reflected tradition British charm. The rooms were very clean and tastefully decorated.
A great location to explore Kent and East Sussex gardens and historic sites. We had a bit of a snafu with the booking reaervation - the host wasnt expecting us! But, they quickly prepped for our arrival and made us feel very welcome!! Highly recommend staying here and enjoying the countryside.
Not only is this a beautiful property, but the proprietors went above and beyond the call to help us when emails went missing. Everything one might want for breakfast was provided, as well as instructions for the house appliances and recommendations offered in a neat notebook. We hope to visit again. Highly recommended.

Thank you so much for your kind words. We love having our guests stay at Heartwood and try very hard to make everyone’s stay as comfortable as we can.
I stayed in the apartment for a couple of nights with a friend for a short walking break. The apartment is gorgeous. Definitely 5*. Ann was a fabulous host and her homemade bread left for us on arrival was amazing as well as the sausages, egg and cake! We were lucky to get in before lockdown 2 and hope we can return in the future.

Thank you so much for taking the time to review Heartwood, and I am just so pleased that you both enjoyed your stay... it’s such a surreal moment in time currently and we just hope that time out and the lovely walks nearby give all our lovely guests a little well deserved break! Stay safe both!
Really enjoyed our stay in Ticehurst. The accommodation was lovely - the photos didn’t do it justice! Ann was very helpful and provided a great welcome pack for us. Lovely to have access to the garden to eat outside too.
Please note that check in is from 3, not 4, as it said in our VRBO confirmation. Unfortunate as we’d hung around from 3. This wasn’t Ann’s fault though.
Set near the lovely village of Ticehurst & within easy reach of the coast. Lovely property, good facilities & very welcoming host. Fresh bread, milk, eggs, bacon and cakes on arrival. Friendly hosts. Plenty to see in the surrounding area.
Ann and Ian are superb and welcoming hosts. Everything you could need is provided. Great recommendations for local pubs and restaurants. A lovely outdoor space to enjoy breakfast /supper. Homemade bread, cakes, milk etc on arrival and bacon and eggs for the morning 😀
The beds are very comfortable and the whole stay was perfect!! We can thoroughly recommend staying here.
This really is a very well appointed and comfortable property set in lovely gardens surrounded by beautiful countryside. Ian was very welcoming and we all enjoyed our stay very much. Would definitely recommend!
What a beautiful and cosy apartment! Fantastic attention to detail, hand crafted heart shaped door handles, chocolates on the pillows, home made bread and cupcakes we could go on and on. Thank you so much for your kind hospitality Ann & Ian. Hand wash, washing up liquid, shower gel all supplied along with soft towels and the most comfortable bed and bed linen. We were very comfortable. There really is so much to do around the area and so many great places to eat (loved The Bell, 10 mins walk away and The Vineyard a 10 mins drive)
The apartment is across the courtyard just inside the main barn/house.
We were made to feel so welcome and cannot wait to return.
Thank you again for letting us stay in your amazing home.
Ann and Ian were incredibly welcoming and kind. The barn was beautiful and very comfortably furnished and the gardens were immaculate - credit to Ann. The homemade bread and other provisions left were delicious and most welcomed. We also had the added advantage of Ian’s passion for classic cars which kept my dad (84 years young) in his element, especially having a ride out one afternoon with Ian in one of the cars. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and although we were visiting family, there is so much to do in the area. We hope to visit again soon and would highly recommend a stay to anyone looking for a relaxing break.
Our days in Ticehurst were perfect. The apartment was lovely, with all the amenities, and we enjoyed our exploration of the town. Anne was a gracious host, and we very much appreciated the on site parking.

A restful stay in a beautifully tranquil location
A friend and I stayed for 2 nights at Heartwood Barn and we didn’t want to leave!
The apartment is beautiful, stylish, very well equipped and so cosy and comfortable. It is obvious that a lot of love and thought has gone in to it - from the welcome ‘hamper’ of food to the super soft towels, lovely toiletries, comfortable sofa and beds, well equipped kitchen and also the useful local information pack.
The apartment is located within a courtyard setting with delightful garden adjacent to it. It was very peaceful and we enjoyed opening our blinds in the morning and watching a family of pheasants in the garden.
We loved visiting nearby Sissinghurst and Bewl Water, as well as having an excellent evening meal at the Bell in the village (a 10 minute walk).
Thank you, we will be back!

Wonderful accommodation
Spent three nights in July there with my wife and our son joined us for two. Excellent two bedroom self contained ground floor flat within the main building, very clean and well equipped. Ann the host was very friendly and made us welcome with bread, milk ,eggs and bacon waiting inside.
The grounds of the venue are lovely with plenty of space to feel like you could relax without intrusion.
Couldn’t pick a better location with the Bell pub and its restaurant just 10 min walk up the road. A very good Indian takeaway opposite the Bell was a pleasant surprise.
We visited Rye , Bodium castle , Battle Abbey and a beautiful forest park all are within a 10 to 40 min drive.
Can’t praise the property enough definitely recommend it.

Highly recommend. Lovely local produce provided, comfortable beds and great shower, very clean.
Warm welcome by the owners of the property and pleasantly pleased with the accommodation. Two beautiful comfortable double beds, freshly laundered. Good quality tea, coffee and local produce in the fridge on arrival. Clean and tidy. You can tell that attention to detail had been taken into consideration and that the owners wished to make the stay of their guests as comfortable as possible. It was truly Home from Home!
So much so we have booked again to come back in a few weeks. Smashing food at the local village pub which was only a five minute walk away!
Highly recommend :)
Our family have lived at the barn for the past fifteen years, lovingly refurbishing it and creating the garden that now surrounds it. There’s still plenty to occupy us, but it’s a wonderfully peaceful place to be and we love it! We are classic car enthusiasts and as such, there may be the occasional beautiful car to see around the barn. We are also able to offer you secure parking during your visit should you wish to bring your own pride and joy.
Why they chose this property
We love the south east of England - it has always been home for us having grown up in Kent, and East Sussex is just that little bit more peaceful.
What makes this property unique
Our home is a quintessentially Sussex barn... black clapboarding with red tiled roof... and is situated in an absolutely ideal location, being right on the edge of a pretty village, yet with far reaching views and with a tranquility that everyone comments upon. Our accommodation offers a wealth of quirky features and comes with a warm welcome, whatever the season!
