Characterful 18th century cottage in Bridport close to the Jurassic Coast.
The cottage is hidden away down a quiet lane in a peaceful location in the heart of the thriving market town of Bridport. The location is close to all amenities, shops, eateries, pubs, art deco Electric Palace and Bridport Arts Centre. Bucky Doo Square is a couple of minutes walk from the cottage, where musicians perform, as people visit the street markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays, selling everything from bric-a-brac to street food.
Recently refurbished the stone cottage is light, cosy and comfortable. After coming through the front door you enter a porch for coats and shoes and containing a cabinet with cottage and tourist information and games for the use of guests.
The living room/diner contains a wood burner, comfortable seating and a range of equipment you might expect. French doors lead to a sheltered stone walled courtyard which can accommodate one car and has a rear wrought iron gate for vehicular access. A table and chairs are situated in the courtyard for al fresco dining.
A small but well equipped kitchen leads off from the living room.
On the first floor of this 3 storey cottage there is a bathroom with a bath and shower. There is a step down into the bathroom. The large Master bedroom has a standard feature double bed. The second bedroom on this level has adult sized wooden bunk beds.
On the second floor there is a beamed, attic bedroom containing a standard double bed. Far reaching views across nearby hills and the towns characterful rooftops can be had on the east and north side of this room. There is a low point on the stairs leading up to the attic bedroom.
The property has full central heating throughout if required.
There is always a lot happening in Bridport at any one time. As well as the twice weekly markets there is a monthly farmers' market, a monthly vintage market and a regular artisan market held in the arts centre. Bridport has a free museum which has a significant section informing you of the town's rope making industry and history. There are many festivals throughout the year including themes such as literary, film, rope, food/drink and the unique hat festival.
The beaches and harbour at West Bay ( of "Broadchurch" fame) is approximately 1.5 miles from the cottage. Either a few minutes drive or a lovely (45 minutes approx) walk through the town orchard and along the river Brit. In general the cottage is a good base for walkers and cyclists. Many varied day routes and destinations are possible along the coast or through beautiful countryside. You could easily spend a week or two and not use a car if you wanted to.
The surrounding area is largely unspoilt with several areas owned by the National Trust. The coast has World Heritage status and many literary connections including Thomas Hardy. Lyme Regis, Charmouth, Abbotsbury, Dorchester and Weymouth are all within easy reach. Activities including fossil hunting, fishing, sailing and golf are all possible. There are many places of interest to visit including a swannery, children's farms and beautiful sub tropical gardens open to the public.

Wonderfully central house close to the hub of everything, including Borough Gardens, such a peaceful place, and all the wonderful beaches and walks in the countryside. We all really enjoyed it. The house is comfortable and is well equipped with everything you might need. It's also great that in the very centre of Bridport, you can park just by your door. Thank you for lovely stay.

This cottage was both quiet and perfectly located to most of what Bridport has to offer -- which is a lot! The hosts were welcoming and very helpful. We enjoyed eating at the historic Bull Hotel restaurant just yards away. It was a memorable trip, and I hope to visit again one day!

Would be lovely to see you both again
We had a lovely stay over New Year in this very cosy character cottage in a perfect location just off the high street in Bridport, a short walk to all the pubs and shops (but very quiet, being in a small lane tucked in behind the high street)). Susan is very communicative and is quick to reply to any queries. Would definitely stay again.

The location is perfect for exploring the Juraissic coast and surrounding towns. Cottage is very clean and well maintained. Parking is tight and we needed to park nearby in long term parking lot which was easy to access and very readonable.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I am glad that you loved the location and found it to be a perfect base for exploring. As explained under facilities on the website parking does involve a "tight right hand turn" and we have found a couple of visitors have preferred to park in the nearby long stay car park which is very reasonable. It is unusual to have a parking space with accommodation in the centre of Bridport so it is beneficial to have the option.
We have no complaints.Very comfortable and clean and adjacent to all amenities.

A lovely little cottage in a great location. Easy to get to West Bay, Charmouth and Lyme Regis.
Just what we needed for a short stay. The cottage was warm and comfortable, having everything we needed. It was useful to have a parking space at the back of the house. You needed to be careful turning the corner into the cottage but it was possible. Bridport was a nice town to wander around - lots of coffee shops. We enjoyed our stay.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at the cottage. It is good to know that you found the cottage warm and comfortable with everything you needed. I am so pleased that you found the location to be great. We explain on our listing that parking at the cottage involves a tight corner. We have found that a couple of guests have chosen to park in the long stay car park nearby which is very reasonably priced. This is always an option.
Really thrilled to hear that you enjoyed your stay.
We spend 9 days in this wonderful cottage. The hosts were very kind and helpful. The region is beautiful. Most important shops, pubs and restaurants are in walking distance. Bridport is a very nice small city and a good start for several trips to countryside or Jurassic coast. Many thanks to Susan

The cottage was cosy and comfortable right in the centre of town. The only noisy night was the first night was when we could hear some rowdiness from the pub. Apart from that it was really quiet.
The parking was tight but manageable with our Toyota Yaris.
We really enjoyed our stay and would come again.
Bang in the centre of the picturesque town of Bridport this place has everything: close to shops, theatre, restaurants and just a 30min walk to the lovely "Broadchurch" beach.
In the house you can find a tiny but fully functional kitchen, a bathroom with a full bath and seperate shower and three bedrooms (sleeps 6, one bunk-bed). The kids loved the board games they found in the entrance cabinet and neighbour's cat.
Overall a great place!

Ad random we found thuis cottage. There had been no moment of regrets.
It was a good place to stay home and perfect point to Explorer Dorset or Bridport. And the communication with Suzan was 👍
Jurassic Coast is wonderfull and Bridport had some great shops, restaurants to eat and pubs to drink a pint ( a Guinness for less then £3)
In all aspects we like to come back.

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. I am thrilled that you enjoyed Bridport and found it to be a good base for exploring Dorset for the first time.
This is a lovely cottage, full of character whilst still being comfortable and cosy. The location within the town is perfect. Completely quiet and peaceful but only two minutes walk from the hustle and bustle of the main street with its shops, pubs and restaurants. The addition of a car parking space is SO useful....and very rare! Our hosts were delightful. Communicative and available without being in any way intrusive. Altogether, a very good find!

A lovely warm welcome to a beautifully presented period property. Fully equipped and very comfortable. The personal touches were very much appreciated e.g. leaving milk and cereal. Leaving a card and biscuits for my daughters birthday. In the heart of Bridport town, very convenient to all amenities. Loved the market days and the antique quarter.

Clean, well located, well equipped, cozy, spacious cottage
We stayed in a Susan’s Lovely cottage for 3 nights midweek in October half term. We have 3 children and here was plenty of space for us all. Parking for one car which was tight but we had a large estate vehicle and had no problems at all. The open plan lounge-diner was lovely and light, spacious and comfortable. Kitchen is small but really well equipped, clean and tidy. The bedrooms are really spacious and the beds are all very comfortable, we all slept well! Bathroom had a separate shower cubicle and bath. Check in and communication with Susan was very straight forward and easy. We will definitely stay here again!

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay. It is lovely to hear that you found the cottage to be spacious and equipped for all your needs. It is great to hear that you all slept so well too. I look forward to greeting you all again.
This is a great base for exploring this area of Dorset. Perfect location in town. It’s quite bare bones and the parking is very tight. We managed it alright with a small car though but it might be hard with a slightly larger vehicle. The internet is not very good in terms of speed and kept going out so it might be tough to work from here if that’s the plan. Susan was easy to reach and answered all the questions in a timely manner. Bring your own washing up liquid and enjoy this beautiful area!

Thank you for taking your time to review the cottage. Glad you found it to be a perfect location.
Regarding parking, I do explain in the listing that there is a tight turn to the parking space at the cottage. Many large vehicles have parked at the cottage. The cottage is fortunate to have a parking space as very few 18th century cottages in the historic centre of Bridport have this facility. Long stay car parks are an alternative.
Problems with internet speed have not been raised before. The service in the Bridport area as a whole is improving. The WiFi works well in most situations. I will continue to monitor as with all other aspects of the property.
A full bottle of washing up liquid is supplied for each stay as on this occasion so there is no need to bring your own. I do supply other extras as well, as shown in previous reviews.

Why they chose this property
We bought the cottage as a holiday home and fell in love with the area, so we moved here. We have had many guests at the cottage, who have loved their time here, so we decided to let the cottage out for others to enjoy. Bridport has a thriving art community and there are pieces of art throughout the cottage produced by local artists. We provide lots of information at the cottage for you to view on all the attractions in the area, many of which we have enjoyed ourselves.
What guests have said, taken from our visitors book:
"Thank you so much for letting us share this fabulous place. The cottage is wonderful and we love Bridport" K.B. and family.
"The cottage is well equipped and cosy, in a lovely place of Bridport town, lots of fab cafes and restaurants. Thank you for letting us stay we will be back." M and R
"The cottage has been an ideal base for our adventures, cosy and comfortable, with everything we needed-even Monopoly! Thank you." M and family.
"We have had a brilliant week down here. The cottage is beautiful, so cosy and private. What a lovely area too. A huge thanks" J S
"Another lovely stay in the cottage . The cottage is well equipped and maintained. Enjoyed the lovely walk to West Bay along the path by the river. We don't want our stay to end. Thanks Susan we will be back again soon". C & R
What makes this property unique
The beauty of this cottage is that it is in a tucked away peaceful location but so close to all Bridport has to offer. Built in the 18th century, it is surprisingly spacious and has lots of interesting features as well as a warm feel . The enclosed courtyard garden has an historic stone wall. As we live locally we can be contacted if you have any concerns and have lots of local knowledge.
