About this property

Pet Friendly and peaceful setting!

This quiet house is snuggled back away from the Leonard boulevard with a beautiful view of the valley. The homes' history suggests it used to be a carriage house! The main house by the road used to be a parsonage, but behind the main house is our carriage (guest) house, so the servants quarters would have been above the lower carriage storage on the second floor. This is where you, our house guests, will sleep. There is a fully furnished kitchen and bathroom (shower only) with comfortable seating on the upper and main floors. Outdoor seating behind the house and on the back patio helps you relax while watching nature and listening to the outdoor sounds. Within walking distance to the local Lamont Park and historical cemetery, you can take short walks around our little town. The house is currently showing it's "age" and we have plans to renovate the attic space. Please keep in mind this is a VERY OLD house and it will not be perfect. There are cracks/paint touch ups and small repairs that need to be done during the winter months when the prime vacation season is finished. But its' imperfections add character, right?
The pool (open June - August), fire pit and sports court are available for our guests.

Weekend Stay

Very cute and quiet property accurate to the pictures. The pool is well maintained. Host was easy to contact. Many (10) earwigs and rolly-pollies that come out at night but if you leave the kitchen and bathroom lights on you don't see as many.

Relaxing stay at great location

Country living in a small village along the Grand River just outside of the Grand Rapids metro area… We were able to visit with family living in GR during our several week stay which made it very convenient for us, but also allowed us to do multiple days trips to Lake Michigan and other regional locations as well. Accessing the property’s relaxing pool was great. Communication with Heidi & Kyle during our stay was just the right touch of being responsive to our needs while allowing privacy as well.

Convenient and dog friendly

Grateful for a place that will allow our puppies. Owners very friendly and accommodating. Little house is old and historic so know ahead of time not to expect a typical “newly remodeled” rental…it does show its age. Good place for us to use as a home base and to sleep as we had a weekend full of activities at GVSU. Perfect size for the two of us and our pups!

Old building

The building was very old pool house. Bathroom was very small up some stairs to get to , had lots of spiders. Was pretty clean and nice views of wildlife. Just needs more clear what place is like..

Booked this property based solely on the pool. I was contacted the day before check in that the pool was green and unusable. It was too little notice to cancel or try to find something else so we still stayed in the carriage house. The listing says it sleeps 5 but there is only one room and one very small bathroom on site so I wouldn't suggest this property for a party of 5 people. The futon listed says it sleeps 2 (its small and wildly uncomfortable) is broken and is being held up by a stack of bricks. I tried using the rocking chair to help get my baby to sleep and that was broken too. I reached out to the host asking for some money back since the pool was unusable but I was told no since its an outdoor pool and it happens from time to time. So don't expect the host to maintain the property as shown on all the pictures. Not sure why they didn't cover the pool when they knew they had people staying. very disappointed with my experience

Pretty and relaxing!

The view was very pretty and the property was very quiet. The carriage house was clean and comfortable too. We very much enjoyed our one night stay. (2 slight things were that the pool was dirty and the house smelled pretty musty. Nothing that vacuuming and airing out won't fix quick though.)

Such a peaceful weekend close to the city but nestled in the country

We had an absolutely wonderful time staying on this beautiful property. The host was quick to answer my silly questions, and the house is just so quaint and homie. The only downside was the tv was in the upper bedroom area and we enjoyed playing games around the table but wanted to watch the basketball games as well! We’d also recommend putting a pathway to walk down to the house the grass was so mushy we were terrified of ruining your grass! Otherwise we plan to stay again during the warmer months! Our dogs LOVED their stay as well, great spot for the entire family including the fur babies!

Peaceful Stay at Pracher's Carriage House

I usually play birdsongs at home but didn't need any here. The birds were singing all day during our stay in June! I woke up to the sounds of church bells in the distance. The street was very quiet. We enjoyed the swimming pool a lot. It was warm without a lot of chlorine or salt. There were lots of water toys so I grabbed an inner tube. It was so nice. We had been at Lake Michigan earlier in the day where it was too windy and rough to swim. This pool saved the day! It was a great stay. I'm grateful the Prachers had an opening in their schedule for our visit.

Good for younger people

This place is pretty neat for the summer time, however I would recommend for younger people with the stairs and the steps into the bathroom. For the owner I definitely would recommend bombing the place for bugs and do routine pest maintenance. The oven also needs a new seal as the seal is off and the knobs get extremely hot. This could be very dangerous for young one (I recommend turning the knobs with pot holders), the cabinet to the left also gets very hot and could potentially catch fire. However it was very quiet and a pretty neat setup with the pool.

Fair accommodations at best

Upstairs sleeping area sweltering on late arrival in the complete dark. I had to use flashlight to find my way as no light was left on. Room air conditioner took over an hour to cool room from 86 degrees to upper 70s. Wasp nest by back door and wasps got in house. Window screen completely ripped. Place smelled musty. No body soap, shampoo, conditioner provided. Smell of horse manure wafting as sat in back porch. Place not as described, needs updating. Pool not open and it was Memorial day weekend. Owners were polite and responsive and accomodated my last minute request. Some of the above issues could be related to the late request but there was 3 to 4 hrs to prepare the place for visitors.

Our Stay on the Ranch

The small but comfortable, clean and cozy cottage was very affordable. It has everything you need, plus more. The view is amazing and the bed is comfortable. The downstairs area is perfect for mealtime and morning coffee or tea while reading a book. The upstairs is spacious and a blowup mattress is provided for extra sleeping arrangements if needed. Watching the horses stroll about was another added bonus. I appreciated them allowing me to bring my dog as well. The owners were very nice, easy to work with and very accommodating. The booking, checkin and checkout process was also a breeze. I recommend this property to others. Not so good during our stay: At the time I booked, I clearly stated that I wanted to come to getaway and just relax. Unfortunately, when I arrived, the family was working on the roof of the main house which took away from mom and I relaxing and being able to listen to nature. Instead, we had to listen to the sounds of hammering and a bit of loud talking on the roof. I didn't say anything or complain to them at the time because although it was disturbing and took away from my quite time there...I assumed that it must have been something that needed to be fixed before the winter season. I only wish I had been informed before I booked. If I had known about the repairs, I would have made other arrangements. We planned on spending all of our time on the property (which was communicated) so we were disappointed that we didn't really get the peace we were looking forward to having during our stay. Still...I would certainly recommend this property to others, especially for those who love horses. However, if you plan on spending most of your time on the property, just make sure they aren't doing any outside home maintenence during your stay 😉. 2016

Cute Country Carriage House Close to Everything

Check in was super easy. The property descriptions were perfect and we had no problems settling in. There was a lot of room in the upstairs sleeping quarters, and we all felt comfortable. We had an emergency during our stay, and Heidi and her family were very gracious, welcoming us in for a little while until all was settled. Communication was quick, and all of our questions were answered quickly. We felt very safe and comfortable, peaceful and quiet, yet a close drive to many different activities in the Grand Rapids area. All in all, a perfect little place to stay.

My husband and I stayed at Heidis place while visiting GR for an appointment. The carriage house was perfect for one night. Clean space, beautiful location and easy check-in. The pool looked inviting, but we were too busy to jump in. There is a fenced area near the pool that kept the backyard seperate from the space you're in which was nice since we had our pups with us. -Just a heads up to future guests: the Keurig was there but no coffee pods only tea pods, and there were no paper towels. Not a big deal for us, but worth noting!Great stay overall! Very grateful for Heidi's graciousness :)

Charming cabin

Overall this was a very nice stay for my family and dog, especially if you're just looking for a peaceful place to hunker down. The only things I would want anyone to know before booking is that the cabin is right up against some woods and, thus, bugs. My daughter found a tick on her and there were several stink bugs and prolly pollies trotting around. Not a big deal unless you have bug phobias. Also, the path to the house is not paved, so you may want to take that into account with your luggage and footwear.

Great stay!

Great location for the event we came for in Grand Rapids! Although it wasn’t an issue for us, the twin beds listed were air mattresses that you have to blow up with a supplied pump. There were 3 twin-size air mattresses. We had a great stay!

About the host

Host profile image
Your hosts will be a married couple, who live on the front of the property and both work full time in the the local community. We are enjoying 3 grandchildren with two more on the way.

Why they chose this property

If you are looking for a quiet peaceful home to take a rest, this is the place! Enjoy some "down time" relaxing in our pool. We are 5 minutes away from Allendale and Coopersville. We are 15 minutes away from downtown Grand Rapids and 30 minutes from Grand Haven beach.

What makes this property unique

This unique home qualifies as historic!
Built in the 1830's, there are many stories this house could tell. The most profound piece of information is that the main house was built for a Methodist pastor and his family of Lamont. He would have parked his horse and carriage in the house you will be staying in and possibly have some servants living in the upper floor to help with the estate. Remember, this house has little dents and scratches because it is so old. We try to save our projects for the down time during the winter months. So, keep in mind you will be visiting a OLD house in the COUNTRY with country smells and country critters outside and possibly a couple bugs inside when the weather warms up or cools down with the weather changes.
