About this property

A cosy and tastefully decorated cottage in the centre of Ballater.

Bertie Cottage can comfortably sleep six people. The cottage is surprisingly spacious and is tastefully decorated to a high standard, with modern furnishings with hints of tartan and Harris Tweed.
There are two good-sized upstairs bedrooms, one king-size and one double bed each with a lovely view to Craig Choillich Hill to the south of Ballater. Downstairs there is a large twin-bedded room which has it's own en-suite shower room. Each bedroom has a wardrobe and plenty of storage space. There is a hairdryer and all linen and towels are provided.
Downstairs there is a cosy lounge with two comfortable sofas, a "favourite armchair" and a large footstool with plenty of cushions for your comfort. The woodburning stove is perfect to nestle up to after a day outdoors. There is a Smart TV, DVD player with a selection of DVDs, Blaupunkt bluetooth speaker and games and puzzles for all ages.
From the lounge you enter a bright well-equipped kitchen with views to the garden and Craigendarroch Hill beyond. There is a fridge-freezer, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave and Nespresso coffee machine.
The separate dining room is the perfect room to sit and enjoy a leisurely breakfast with views to Craigendarrioch Hill or to relax over an evening meal and plan the next days activities.
The dining room opens out onto a large enclosed deck with a seating area and a separate BBQ area, perfect for outdoor dining. Behind the decking there is some grass with a washing line and further planting. The garden is a fabulous suntrap, the sun can be enjoyed from early morning to the last rays in the evening. There is access to a large lockable shed - perfect for guests to store bikes or golf clubs etc.
There is on-street parking directly outside the cottage.

Bertie Cottage is located in the centre of the Victorian village of Ballater and has all the amenities of the village on the doorstep. Ballater has many shops, cafes, restaurants and galleries to enjoy, most notably the recently refurbished Old Royal Station minutes from the cottage.
From the cottage there are many walks to explore - from the paths along the river, the recently opened Seven Bridges Walk and of course Craigendarroch Hill with it's spectacular views of Ballater and Lochnagar.
Ballater is just 7km from Balmoral Castle and Estate, the Royal Family's Scottish holiday home since 1852.
Ballater and Royal Deeside has the most stunning scenery and is an ideal base for hill-walking, cycling, fishing, golfing and many more outdoor pursuits.

Fabulous Cottage.
Bertie Cottage is a real gem. Cosy, homely and in a fabulous location, being handy for everything and yet peaceful and quiet. On arrival, there was a lovely loaf of local bakery bread waiting for us, along with teabags, coffee, sugar and a dish of chocolates. Such a thoughtful touch - thank you Catriona. The cottage itself was immaculately clean and tastefully decorated and really felt like a home from home. The log burning stove was lovely to come back to after a day of hiking and there was a good supply of logs and kindling ready for us. We all slept well, thanks to the very comfortable beds and made full use of the corner bath - especially after climbing Lochnagar! Our dog loved his holiday and enjoyed playing in the garden, which was safe and secure and on a sunny day, was a lovely little sun trap. A wonderful holiday and we hope to visit again!

Fabulous cottage in the best location!
Loved Bertie Cottage.... beautiful cottage, well equipped, in a very central location with easy parking and a shed for bikes. The garden was a real sun trap and much bigger than it looks in the pictures! Despite being so close to the village square it was very quiet. Definetly one to come back to!

Great place to stay to access the Cairngorms
Comfortable cottage with everything you might want including a place to lock up your bicycles. Great to sit outside on the deck in the sun and enjoy a cup of tea after a day of walking or cycling. Good location to get into the Cairngorms with all the amenities of Ballater on the doorstep.

Mitten in Ballater - perfekt

My husband Kevin and I bought Bertie Cottage because of our love of Ballater and the surrounding area. We have enjoyed many walks in the Cairngorms, one of our favourites being Lochnagar. We frequent the local golf courses and enjoy ski-ing at the Lecht and Glenshee every winter.
We would be delighted to welcome you to our cottage and are sure you will love this area as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

Why Bertie?
Balmoral has been the Scottish Royal Residence since Prince Albert fist leased and bought the estate for his wife Queen Victoria in 1852. Victoria and Albert were married for 21 years with 9 children. He was the love of her life and her affectionate nickname for him was "Bertie."
And so we gave the name to our beautiful cottage in recognition of the Royal couple's love for this area.
We love to stay in our cottage and in the village of Ballater whenever we can. It is a very special place and I think everytime we explore a new walk or a new place to visit, we love it all the more.

What makes this property unique

Bertie cottage is the perfect cottage in the perfect location to explore Royal Deeside and the Cairngorm National Park.
The cottage is located in the centre of the Victorian village of Ballater and shops, cafe, restaurants and galleries are minutes from the doorstep. Although all amenities are in close to the cottage, the cottage manages to maintain all it's charm and is a lovely place to relax either by the fire or in the enclosed garden after a day spent enjoying this beautiful part of Scotland.
