No smoking.. Standing quietly just off the market square, this carefully furnished, mid-terrace holiday property offers cosy accommodation within a secluded courtyard. The market town of Thirsk is renowned as the Darrowby of the late James Herriot (Alf Wight), famous vet and author of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’. Visit the unique tribute at the ‘World of James Herriot’. Another famous son of Thirsk is Thomas Lord, founder of Lord’s cricket ground and Thirsk Museum can be found in his birthplace. The cobbled, medieval market square hosts a twice weekly market and is surrounded by individual shops, traditional inns and tea shops. The Dales, Moors, Scarborough and Whitby are all easily accessible. Shop, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

Our 3rd visit. Comfortable cottage. All furniture and fittings absolutely top quality. Everything chosen with care to ensure a stress free stay. Spotlessly clean and many thoughtful gestures to make us feel welcome.Would highly recommend and feel 5 stars is not enough. Should be at least 20 !!

Our third visit to Middle Cottage and we love coming here.

Our third visit to Middle Cottage and we love coming here. An ideal place to stay to visit our relatives in Thirsk, and of course the lovely little town itself. You are literally 50 metres from the market place, and yet being hidden away it's so quiet with very little light pollution. It's a very cosy place, helped especially by the coal effect gas fire which is really lovely. There is little really that you need to bring as the kitchen is so well equipped, and the house has a really good supply of books, dvds and board games. I couldn't find the supply of bird food to refill the feeders in the little garden, but it's lovely to watch all the different birds. Both the bedrooms are lovely and big for us and the kids, though the double bed mattress seems to be a bit soft now which doesn't suit us. The only other thing we would like is a more powerful shower, but we can live with that. If you're looking for a place to stay in Thirsk to explore the area, this fits the bill perfectly.

This is the second time we have visited Middle Cottage.

This is the second time we have visited Middle Cottage. It is very well equipped, very comfortable and clean. There are little touches left by the owner which make the guests feel very welcome, handcream for use after washing up, liquid soap in the bathroom, clear instructions on how to use the various appliances, amongst others,all of which contribute to a super stay. The proximity to the Market Palace is an added bonus too. I would definitely recommend this property.
