Portland is a gorgeous place to stay.
Portland is a gorgeous place to stay. The cottage was ok. It could do with updating. The sofa and chairs are really uncomfortable. The sofa cracks and sinks when you sit on it. Beds are comfortable but when we went there there'd obviously done some painting and it was so strong that we had to open the windows. The bathroom heater never worked, it was freezing in there. The welcome pack consists of 2 little fairy cakes. We came home early but had quite a nice stay.

Only 1 small problem which was the stools in kitchen which needed abit of upgrading and maybe a nice smell around the cottage

Very dog friendly, well equipped home.
Very dog friendly, well equipped home. It is very spacious. Very quiet and peaceful location. Decor rather old fashioned. Parts of the house are cold and it took a long time to dry washing so it could benefit from a tumble drier. Portland is a lovely place with lots of walks nearby. Plenty of takeaways and shops nearby. We knew there was no WiFi but we did miss it.

Brilliant cottage, very near the sea.
Brilliant cottage, very near the sea. Ideal for people with dogs as you can walk along the cliff path for miles. The path is a 5 minute walk from the cottage. Lots do do on Portland and most places let you take the dogs in. Stunning views from the cliffs of Chesil Beach. Near the cottage is a fish and chip shop that cooks everything known to man and a co-op 5 minutes walk. Will book this cottage again.

Really love cottage, excellent position close to the coastal path and local shop and pub. Cottage a little chilly in January but fab heater in the main living room and portable heater for elsewhere. Otherwise excellent facilities and beautifully clean. Great for dog owners too!!

Comfortable cottage, well provisioned except for lack of heating in 2nd bedroom.
Comfortable cottage, well provisioned except for lack of heating in 2nd bedroom. Otherwise very good. Ideal location. Great area to visit - we know it well, having relatives living on Portland, so being frequent visitors. However, this was the first time we actually stayed on Portland.

clean, warm and homely and walking distance to shops/pub
Lovely situation at the edge of field and near the coast path. House was charming, bordering on quirky (please don't do it up!) and spotlessly clean with a lovely home from home feel to it. Not fancy, a bit old fashioned, it won't suit people who like hot tubs & underfloor heating, but we loved it. Owners left fresh flowers in almost every room, biscuits, milk, tea and coffee were all waiting. Lovely long garden and dog friendly. Just what we needed for a short break. Added bonus was that the coast path, local shops, post office (in the Co-op), fish & chippy, pub & bistro were all within easy walking distance. The only problem booking through HomeAway was the extra commission charged for handling it for cottages.com - book through the former directly but beware (!) I had lots of cold calling to my mobile afterwards - so much so I had to install a blocking app. So don't give out a phone number you use much - it might even be worth buying a cheap SIM card just for this. I ticked the opt out on the HomeAway site, paid the commission and was routed to cottages.com to pay the rest. There was no opt out to junk marketing there that I could see here. This came only afterwards in the small print with my booking confirmation and despite emailing the organisation controlling cottages.com (Wyndham Vacation Rentals which has many other holiday brands http://www.wynvr.co.uk/our-brands.php ) within 15 minutes, I have been plagued by junk calls ever since. I did call cottages.com (who denied it could be them but could not tell me my marketing preferences) and wrote again to the umbrella company, Wyndham Vacation Rentals, asking them to desist but they did not even acknowledge my email. The calls are getting more sinister - silent one way hidden number Skype type probe calls (lots of 0s ending with a 1). A real downer to the holiday booking.
