Thairn cottage is our luxury one bedroom self-catering cottage. All on the ground level. Lunch in your private south facing conservatory whilst enjoying the splendid view over the cottage garden to the Cheviot Hills and abundant native wildlife. Or snuggle up in front of your wood-burning stove after a wonderful day out exploring the beautiful Borders. Walk or cycle from your cottage.
Thairn cottage is generously equipped for 2-3 people for self-catering. There is a separate well-equipped kitchen dishwasher, fridge-freezer, hob, oven & grill, microwave, plenty of utensils, and crockery.
COVID-19
We are part of the Good to Go scheme.
We are taking extra precautions to prevent the spread of any virus between guests. During 2021 we are leaving the cottage empty for a night between guests. We are changing duvets and pillows, mattress protectors (as well as bed linen) between guests and extra cleaning as per advice. I have completed the recommended online cleaning course to help prevent the spread of coronavirus for holiday cottages.
There are many local walks and cycle routes where you are unlikely to meet anyone due to the lack of people. Or sit and relax while admiring the wonderful rural views and amazing birds in your cottage garden.
You'll be warm whatever the weather is doing outside. Central heating throughout is supplemented by a log burner in the living room. We provide plenty of homegrown wood. If requested we can light your fire ready for your arrival.
The bedroom has an extra-long, king size bed. If requested, we can provide an additional bed or travel cot, either in the bedroom or in the living room. please ask. Thairn cottage is pet-free.
The bathroom has a bath and a separate shower. There is lots of hot water heated by the biomass boiler. Most of our electricity is provided by our solar panels. Green Tourism silver award.
There is a private car park adjacent to the cottages. Cars can approach 5m to the main entrance of each cottage for loading. Suitable for guests with mobility difficulties. . Each cottage is light and airy with plenty of space. From the dining area of the living room, there is direct, level access to a south-facing conservatory with splendid views across the secluded garden, river and the Tweed valley to the Cheviot hills and the border between Scotland and England. Thairn cottage has a heated drying cupboard.
Burnbrae is situated 3 miles north of the abbey town of Kelso with its cobbled square quaint shops and fantastic restaurants. We are located within 40 minutes drive of Edinburgh and the east coast fishing villages, superb coastal scenery, Border towns, Cheviot and Ettrick Hills. Ideal for visiting the many abbeys, gardens and stately homes (Floors Castle and Mellerstain House & gardens nearby). This is an ideal area for those who enjoy walking and cycling with secure bike storage and a heated drying cupboard in each cottage. Not only are there some lovely short walks within Burnbrae but there are also walks that start directly from the site with a wide choice of walking to suit all levels, where you can take in the spectacular scenery. Cycling is a particular pleasure with a good network of quiet lanes around Burnbrae. In the hills, there are plenty of tracks and the Glentress Forest provides extensive cycle tracks which are separate from the walking paths (mountain bikes can be hired at the main entrance to the forest). Horse riding is a very popular past time in the Scottish Borders, as is fishing and golf, with numerous courses within easy reach of Burnbrae. There is a riding stables next door. The Scottish Borders also has a wealth of culture and history and many beautiful gardens and historic properties to visit. Floors Castle and Mellerstain House and Kelso racecourse are only 3 miles away.
All prices are for 2 people and include electricity, heating, internet, wood for the wood burner, EV charging, use of bed linen and towels.
There is free fast reliable WiFi throughout each cottage. We have a lockable cycle store, barbecue, washing machine and tumble drier available for guests use.
Wander through 10 hectares of pasture beside the stream or along the riverside path. Share with us the peace and quiet of Burnbrae.
