The lodge is tastefully decorated. Period panelling and antiques are mixed with comfortable furnishings and contemporary work from award winning local artists.
Upstairs there are two bedrooms which sleep five in comfort, making this the ideal home away from home for families, couples or a small group of friends. Bedroom 1 has a kingsize bed. Bedroom two has a double bed and a single day bed. There is a toilet on the upstairs landing. The main luxury shower room and further toilet facilities are off the spacious ground floor hallway.
Downstairs the main living space is excellent. The open plan design makes this a sociable space to enjoy holiday time, whether you’re planning a family break or a catch up with your friends. The main panelled living room has a feature cast iron stove and Smart TV for those cosy nights in. There are two leather club style sofas, an armchair and a bay window seat with views to neighbouring garden areas.
An open archway connects directly with the kitchen and dining room area, where you will find all you need to prepare and enjoy those special meals. The kitchen is well equipped with modern appliances, including integrated dishwasher, a fridge freezer and a washing machine. It boasts a good selection of quality equipment, all you need to prepare great meals to enjoy round the spacious dining table.
The cottage makes a perfect base for fishing and golf, hiking and biking in the Borders hills or for gentler riverside strolls. It is a 15 minute walk into Melrose across a listed footbridge over the River Tweed.
Melrose is famed for its abbey and Rugby’s Sevens Tournament, the Borders Book festival and nearby Abbotsford House, home to Sir Walter Scott.
Melrose offers a range of local shops with bars, cafés and restaurants on a busy high street. Gattonside itself has two highly rated restaurants, both within two minutes walk of Stable Lodge. The nearby train station at Tweedbank also gives easy access to Edinburgh for a day out using the scenic Border Rail Line.

We received a helpful informative e mail from the owner pre arrival. The property was easy to find and is situated in a small quiet area, just a short pleasant walk to Melrose High Street. The house is beautiful and roomy and the kitchen / dining area has every gadget / equipment required for a self catering stay. Alternatively there is a good choice of eateries in the High Street. The sitting room is cosy, with gorgeous throws, cushions and wall art. Upstairs is deceptively roomy with two good sized double bedrooms. The bed in the first room is soooo comfortable, well decorated and I was pleased to find a hairdryer as left mine at home. The second bedroom is also attractively decorated - the firmer mattress on the bed is less comfortable then in the other room. Downstairs, the bathroom contains a lovely hot, powerful shower with second toilet upstairs. We absolutely loved our stay in Stable Lodge and would certainly be happy to return.
