Willey B House
Our summer home is a 1000 sq foot retreat nestled in the French seaside fishing village of L'Ardoise. Three cozy bedrooms, queen, double and two singles. One full bath with oversize antique clawfoot tub. Living/sitting area with a bounty of books, puzzles, movies and old vinyls with mint condition 1960's portable record player!! Plenty of patio furniture as well as Adirondack chairs to lounge on a lazy summers day. The house is situated on approx 3/4 of an acre with my relatives Scottish Highland cattle grazing just shy of the kitchen window! Kitchen contains frig, stove, microwave, Keurig, toaster, Belgian waffle maker, right down to the obvious kitchen Cape Breton essential ...... a tea pot! Make no mistake about it, we are serious about our tea time!!! Fully stocked linens, towels, bathroom sundries, dish soap, clothing detergent, first aid supplies, Tylenol,Ibuprofen, allergy medication!!! All you really need is your toothbrush!!!
Less than five miles to Cape Breton's surfing mecca Point Michaud! Rockdale beach less than 3 miles away with hiking access to St.Peters Island at low tide. Numerous breathtaking views from various Bluff points within a few miles. One of my absolute favourites and location for our wedding photos in 2014 is Grande Greve beach. There is nothing quite like sitting on the Grande Greve bluff with a bottle of Lucketts Phone Box Red from the Gaspereau Valley and enjoying a Cape Breton sunset. Visit the Alexander Graham Bell museum, tour the Fortress of Louisbourg or drive the world renown Cabot Trail with all her breathtaking views!
Approximately 3 miles from the house is 'Lobsters R Us' where the staff will be more than happy to sell you the best selection of delectable Cape Breton lobster and snow crab! The seaside village of St.Peters is not more than 8 miles away with the historic St.Peters canal, one of the rarest lock systems known in the world accommodating boats traveling from the Atlantic Ocean into the famed Bras D'or Lakes. The lock operator, a St.Peters native, will be happy to entertain any questions you may have regarding the locks and their history. Join us in July for 'Swim the canal!'
One of the few places left, shy of Scotland where you can experience authentic Gaelic culture, music and tradition! Visit the Gaelic College of St.Anns, where my Mum first learned to play the bagpipes before her Pipe band The MacDonald 100 marched across the Canso Causeway upon its opening some 60 odd years ago. Experience Highland dancing, Gaelic music and immerse yourself in true Scottish history at the Highland museum in Malagawatch!
If you're longing for an idyllic East coast seaside getaway then Cape Breton is the place for you!! The ocean breeze tantalizing your skin, refreshing salt air, cool calm evenings and the graciousness and friendliness of the locals is unparalled. Come join us 'Cead mile failte' One hundred thousand welcomes and you'll leave your heart in Cape Breton!!

About the host
Hosted by Jeff and Darlene Willey

My husband Jeff and I reside in upstate New York. Jeff is a native of Bristol Vt. and I am a Canadian military brat who spent her summers in St.Peters, Cape Breton visiting my grandfather. Much to my joy my handsome husband fell in love with Cape Breton the moment he inhaled her salty air and laid foot upon her rugged shores! We have returned every year since bringing my two wonderful stepsons, Logan and Tyler as well as my loving in-laws! This particular photo was taken on our wedding day at Grande Greve beach not 5 miles from the house! Beautiful views! We look forward making many memories for years to come in our summer home and hope you'll join us in doing the same!!
