Perched on the side of a hill this cosy contemporary beach house overlooks the trees and ocean of Emu Bay. The house is private on its 5acres but only 700m from the 4.5km long beach of Emu Bay. The house is designed as a coastal retreat for its owners and has an intimate connection to its bush surroundings and nearby sea. The location, the incredible views and the house provide for a perfect retreat, a holiday and a place for relaxation. The living and outside areas are north facing with views of the sea and bush. One can experience this unique location from all rooms at any time of the day and throughout the seasons. The 4 m long daybed is perfect for reading a book, taking in the view or a nap. The bedroom has a Queen-size bed with views over the trees to the ocean. It is equipped with a reverse cycle A/C. The Kitchen and living area is a large open space with an adjoining deck. The stainless steel kitchen has a gas stove and electric oven, and all necessary utensils and cooking requirements. For cooler days there is an open fire for heating the living area with firewood supplied. A 4m long day bed at the end of the room looks out over the landscape to the water. Emu Bay is a quiet coastal hamlet located on the northern side of KI. Its 4.5km long white sandy beach is accessible to vehicles and provides safe swimming. There is also a jetty and a boat ramp. Emu Bay has no shopping facilities. Emu Bay to Kingscote is only 15 min along a bitumen road where you can find most facilities including supermarket, petrol station, post office, banks and tourist information. The Sealink ferry arrives from Cape Jervis at Penneshaw. The distance from Penneshaw to Emu Bay is approximately 75km, all on bitumen. Emu Bay is 15 min from the airport. House on the hill serves as an ideal base for touring the Island due to its central location and its proximity to Kingscote

Lovely place with a beautiful view from every room. Cecilia was easy to communicate with and very responsive. The whole house is well thought out and in a great location to everything.
Our hosts were super helpful and oncall when we needed them. The house was perfect, it suited our needs perfectly. The view was gorgeous, kitchen perfect for cooking. Beautifully styled and the window seats were amazing I really can’t fault it. I would definitely return.
The place had a fantastic view and was blocked from the wind still. We saw plenty of wildlife in the property including kangaroos koalas and an echidna. It’s also just a walk to the beach.
Loved our stay at House on the Hill. Such a peaceful spot nestled amongst the bush with a spectacular view overlooking Emu Bay. The property is exactly like the photos. Well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay.
We loved our stay here. The view was amazing and very relaxing. We even had a special visit from a cuddly koala.
I should have read the fine print because I had no internet service here, but that's on me.

Hi Melissa,
We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay.
We are sorry about the internet.
You were the our last guest without internet connection.
We have just been connected to the NBN and have WiFi at the house.
Our stay at House on the Hill exceeded all expectations. A beautiful presented home with views from all rooms overlooking Emu Bay and bushland.
A perfect place to retire to after a day exploring the island and enjoying the natural environment especially the beaches
Very grateful 😊
The property matches the photos. The view is sensational from every room. We had kangaroos, a koala and an echidna come to visit, not to mention the birds and the dolphins in the bay. We loved it! The house is really well equipped, would highly recommend.
Surprising well equipped home with wonderful views across Emu Bay.
The home had a inviting feel of a home away from home and was quiet and private.
A fantastic place to relax and a delight to stay in. Thanks.
Property is located in a rural setting with a short walk to Emu Bay Beach. House was well furnished. Cecilia was an excellent host with very prompt responses. We appreciated her suggestions for attractions and businesses on the Island. Viewing the kangaroos adjacent to the house while eating breakfast was an added feature.
This house is unique and stylish, with a beautiful view of Emu Bay but not another house in sight. There are lovely art works throughout and the decor is appealing and restful. All the facilities are high quality and very functional. We enjoyed watching stars from the verandah, sitting by the fire, and reading on the window seat. It is a probably a 10 minute walk down to the beach, and there were several koalas and kangaroos around on the property. Emu Bay was a good base to export the island. Highly recommend this house- we loved our stay.

House on the Hill is a wonderful, relaxing and hidden surprise. Sweeping views over Emu Bay - which must be among the safest, most swimmer-friendly beaches on KI - but also nestled among tress and bushes on very private 5 acres, it has the best of both worlds. The house is thoughtfully designed, allowing cross ventilation to cool the house while large glass windows and doors bathe the lounge area with light . A long day bed is hard to leave during the day.House on the Hill would rate as one of the best places I have stayed in and Emu Bay and KI one of the most relaxing.
Had a very enjoyable stay in this cosy well designed house with a fabulous view over Emu Bay. A great base for exploring the island or just relaxing watching the local echidnas and kangaroos from the deck or comfy day bed. Would definitely stay here again.

Thank you Pam! We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay and we are looking forward to see you again!
Really cool place! Appreciated the break. Having to go to the blue hut for signal was a tad annoying but nothing that can be done about that. Overall an awesome stay thank you :)

Thank you Cai for looking after our house and leaving it super clean and tidy. We are really pleased you enjoyed your stay.
We are sorry the telephone reception is not great on Kangaroo Island. Mainly Telstra seems to get reception at our house.
