Your rental of the Butler Cove Beach cottage includes access to: the entire house, front deck, yard, parking area, beach^, bulkhead^^, paddleboards (2, for rent), and kayaks (2).
^Our beach extends into the cove (muddy, be warned -- highly recommend sandals with straps attaching them to your feet) and just to the right of the steps down onto the beach. It includes a portion of the sea beans — the succulent-looking plant carpeting the sand (see the last three photos for the property's boundary). Though beach strolling on neighboring beaches (not bulkheads [see note ^^ below of what bulkheads are, if unfamiliar]) is permitted at low tide, bringing down lawn chairs, beach towels, sunbathing, or temporarily storing lifejackets, paddles, paddleboards, or kayaks, etc. on neighboring beaches/the neighboring sea beans is not.
^^Please do not travel across neighboring bulkhead[s] (up from the beach, often with a concrete barrier) as they are considered private property.
Other things to note are that during the summer months (Memorial Day through Labor Day), there is a two-week maximum stay limit. This allows returning guests have access to open dates for annual events, such as music festivals, family reunions, etc. From Labor Day until Memorial Day, there is the option for longer term stays and there is a monthly rate available during those months. One-night minimum year round, except major holidays and special events (i.e. TESC graduation, Lakefair, Harbor Days).
There are 27 steps leading down and up to/from the cottage. Unfortunately, making this property not ADA accessible.

What a beautiful, peaceful house and setting. My wife and I love this place and will return again. Everything you need for a stay is provided and labeled well. The owners are super attentive and great to correspond with. Highly recommend!
We had a wonderful stay in Olympia while visiting our family. The cabin was the perfect retreat after busy days. The setting is beautiful, the cabin well stocked and maintained and the hosts were gracious. Highly recommended!

Thank you, Sally! It is a great place to come back to after busy days. Glad we could provide a place for that. You are welcome back anytime.
I am a return visitor to the property and had a great stay. Excellent location on the water and easy to work with the owner on check-in and other communications. Will try to visit again next year.
We loved our short stay on Budd’s Bay! This house was very comfortable for me and my husband and our two young sons. The house was well stocked with everything we needed for our stay (including toys for the boys!) and it was a joy to watch the tide come and go throughout the day. The hosts went above and beyond to make sure we were set up for success (high chair, twin bed rail, pack and play) and we would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a quiet family getaway!
A beautiful, serene location conducive to tranquility and optimum peacefulness, where one becomes intimate with Natures surroundings.

So glad our cottage provided you a restful and tranquil stay. Thank you for the love letter in the cottage’s guest book — it was very touching and a joy to read. You are welcome back anytime the cottage is available. Safe travels home. :)
Probably the best place I have stayed! Peaceful, well-stocked, and they even let us use the wood stove! Low tide made for nice beach walks, with lots of shells. Even saw a red fox chasing the ducks. Hopefully we get a chance to stay here again some day.

Thank you for the high praises! We are so glad you had the chance to see the red fox (we’re not sure if it’s the same one each time or not but anytime a fox is spotted, it’s pretty darn amazing). You are welcome back at anytime.
We always enjoy our stay. You can tell the owners put a lot of thought and love into this place and all the details they've put into it. Perfect place for Olympia winter when the weather can change one minute to the next. You will be happy just sitting by the wood stove looking at the ducks through the picture window.
Very nostalgic feel to everything here. Love the wood burning stove and view over the water (we saw a couple Blue Herons during our stay)
Some areas could have been better dusted but overall a nice stay
Nice, private stay. Property felt safe and secluded. Only a short drive to down town Olympia - cute little cozy cabin for a quick getaway in the woods.
Hosts were communicative and kind
We spent the weekend relaxing and letting the dog swim in the bay. He loved it so much. The place was clean and cozy. Restaurants and shopping were close by. We were sent all the information to let ourselves in ahead of time. We will definitely stay there again.

About the host
Hosted by Deborah Pattin & Rachel Wadland
My family has owned this waterfront cottage since 1982. We lived there full time for 11 years before building a larger house to accommodate our growing (now grown) children. We continue to vacation at the cottage, hold family gatherings, or just go over for a walk on the beach or for an outing in the rowboat, kayaks, or paddleboards. We live not far away from the cottage so if you need anything while you are there, have questions, need directions or referrals, etc., we are usually nearby to be of assistance. The cottage is set up like a home and you will be quite comfortable there.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with the property the minute we first saw it in June 1982. The cottage is nestled at the base of a hill on an acre of forested land. The road to the property is a windy country road that hugs a forested hillside. The second you drive onto the road, you feel the cooler temperature, smell the forest and the water. You give a relaxing sigh. Ah, relaxation. From the deck of the cottage, you are only 13 feet from the shore edge and you can watch the tides come in and out, and view the wildlife: deer, seal, blue heron and other sea birds, king fishers, salmon, river otters and more. A wonderful place to relax.
What makes this property unique
Close to town but it feels like you are miles away. Downtown Olympia and the State Capitol are 10 minutes away; The Evergreen State College is 5 minutes or less. Major grocery stores, shopping centers, service stations, movie and live theatres, pubs, restaurants, churches, museums, medical offices and the hospitals are within minutes. Plenty of solitude and privacy. Even though you are only minutes from Hwy 101 or Interstate 5, it feels like you are out in the country, in a quiet, private retreat.
