About this property
Plainfield House in a 10,000 acre state forest and private pond
Experience a Berkshire get-away in this huge secluded comfortable family-friendly house. It's the only house that is surrounded by 10,000 Acres of protected Hawley State forest. Escape from headaches and the rat race. No cell phone reception here! But we have WiFi and a house phone (Fibre Gigabit that's new in January 2020). We like to define our country home as a place to dream and relax. We care about your comfort and we think we are not only a place to sleep, but a real home for your lovely holidays.
The house is 2700 square feet, with 3 private bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (full bath [shower and tub]), a large living room with fireplace, and a two flat-screen TV's with Netflix, Disney and Amazon On Demand & DVD player. It has a one-car indoor garage, central air-conditioning and lightening fast Gigabit wireless internet. The house also has a NEW clothes washer and dryer, a smoker BBQ charcoal and gas BBQ grills, a screened in gazebo, a porch, Hallockville Pond just behind the house and 10,000 acres of marked trails to hike and explore.
Great for a romantic getaway or a family reunion.

Seasonal Attractions: In the winter, the house includes cross country skis, snowshoes and wood for the fireplace. It also has an indoor parking spot so you won't need to brush and scrape! We also have a make it yourself igloo kit. The house is 10 minutes to Berkshire East Ski Area (45 trails, 1180 verticle feet, and 5 lifts)and Notch View Reservation for cross country skiing. Southern Vermont ski areas such as Mt Snow and Sunapee are under an hour's drive.
In the summer, the house is less than 1 mile from Plainfield Pond, with a kid-friendly sandy beach, or simply swim in the lake behind the house. Float down the Deerfield River which runs along the historic Mohawk Trail on our inner tubes, play croquet on the lawn, BBQ on the patio, or use the kayaks and standup paddleboard behind the house (and life-jackets). Guests are also welcome to eat from our well-tended organic vegetable garden and blueberry and raspberry bushes.
Nearby Attractions: The house is ideally located close to Smith College (commencement in May) and all of the shops, restaurants and cultural activities of Main Street, Northampton. Also in the area is Tanglewood in Lenox, Mass MoCA is the largest center for contemporary arts in North Adams, Clark Art Institute & Williams College in Williamstown and Jacobs Pillow in Becket. Under an hour's drive to Six Flags New England, Yankee Candle outlet, Springfield's numerous museums, the Shelburne Falls Bridge of Flowers and so much more that the Berkshires have to offer. Historic Deerfield and Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory are 30 minutes drive.
Less than 15 minutes to Berkshire East for skiing in the winter which runs New England's zipline canopy tours in the summer called Zoar Outdoor. As well, Moxie or Crabapple Rafting organize rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, zipline tours, etc.
We are not too far from the Mohawk Trail State Forest, Bridge of Flowers, Ashfield Lake or even the 'sister colleges'.
