What a fun place to stay. We enjoyed the ease of the location and the ability to relax in the hot tub and the living room. Great place to visit with family.
The suite is in a great location and you can’t find nicer hosts! The hot tub is terrific and quite private, the accommodations are comfortable and very clean. It was a nice place to hang our hats during our visit and we’d love to stay again if we’re back to this area! Thanks again to our hosts.

It was a real pleasure to meet Neil and his wife and their pup. Excellent guests, friendly, great communications, they took good care of the suite and left it spotless on their departure. Welcome back any time!
This place was perfect for my family . Plenty of space, great entertainment options and very clean. Chris and Kira were wonderful hosts, and the chickens were so fun. The only wrinkle we had was the fridge was small, so if you plan to stay for more than a couple of days, you may want to bring a cooler for larger items. Will definitely book again.

Lisa was a pleasure to host and welcome back any time.
The place was very clean and organized. It is situated in excellent location to get to freeway or major shops/restaurants etc. The host was excellent in returning responses. This place is a little dated but in a very arts minded way. The area is quiet and we'll protected.
Our visit was short, but we felt right at home immediately as everything was perfectly arranged and ready for our arrival. The welcome treats, the lovely bathroom with extra amenities and all the interesting extra touches shows how much the hosts care about their guests and their experience!

Was a pleasure to host Debbie and her family. Welcome back any time.
Perfect place for the four adults & one Great Dane to stop over before a big day at Butchart Gardens. Clean, quiet, great neighborhood for walking our dog and location was not far from local eateries. Beautiful view from backyard area and the owner’s residence landscaping is wonderful with abundant flowering rhododendrons all about. Perfect weather was also a benefit! Thanks for all!

Thanks so much for staying with us and for your review, it was an absolute pleasure meeting you all. Hope Butchart Gardens was amazing and you took great memories home. 🙌😊
Everything was super wonderful...the suite had comfortable furnishings and was easy to find the location. We did not get to stay and use the hottub or spend the night due to health emergency. Looking forward to another stay in the future.

Having the hot tub was a real treat! Good value for money. Host was very responsive. For our family group it worked great! I personally enjoyed the Original Six NHL collection, especially the Bobby Orr “shrine” (my fav player of all time). Thanks, Chris and Kira!

We are the sweetest couple? If so then you all (with maybe the exception of your Father) were just the cutest group and thanks again as you were a pleasure to host 🙌
It was a great place and we wish that we could stay longer. Chris had many suggestions of things to do on our way to Campbell River. Would definitely stay here again!

About the host
Hosted by Kira
Hi! We’re Kira and Chris. We’ve called Vancouver Island home for more than 30 years and created Hilltop Retreat as a peaceful place where guests can slow down, settle in and enjoy the West Coast at their own pace.
Over the years, we’ve welcomed exchange students, Junior A hockey players and travellers from around the world into our home. Hosting has always been about making people feel comfortable, looked after and genuinely welcome without ever feeling crowded.
We enjoy sharing local recommendations for restaurants, trails, lakes, scenic drives and lesser-known places around the West Shore and Greater Victoria. Around home, we spend a lot of time with our garden, chickens and beehives, which give Hilltop some of its relaxed, slightly homestead character.
We live quietly upstairs, so we’re nearby if you need anything during your stay. Otherwise, we respect your privacy and let you enjoy the suite as your own space.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with this hilltop location because it offers a rare balance of peaceful privacy and everyday convenience. Set above the treetops on a quiet residential cul-de-sac, we enjoy beautiful sunsets, regular visits from deer, hummingbirds and eagles, and a sense of calm — yet we’re only minutes from trails, lakes, restaurants, shopping and Bear Mountain.
After years in the Navy, we wanted a place where we could slow down and put down roots. Here, we found room to grow gardens, raise chickens, keep bees and create the relaxed West Coast lifestyle we were looking for, while still being close to Victoria and everything the region has to offer.
It’s that combination — peaceful and tucked away, but not isolated — that we think makes this location particularly special.
What makes this property unique
Hilltop Retreat combines the privacy and comfort of a vacation rental with the personal touches of a genuinely hosted stay.
The spacious two-bedroom suite is designed for actually living in, not simply sleeping in. Guests have their own private hot tub, a dedicated media room with Bose surround sound, a well-equipped kitchenette and extensive cooking options, a compact home gym, comfortable bedrooms and plenty of room to settle in and relax.
But some of the things guests remember most aren't found on an amenities checklist.
Hilltop is also our little urban homestead. Depending on the season, you might meet Salt, Pepper, Shake and Bake, our four backyard hens; see us working with the beehives; wander through the gardens; or discover fresh herbs and other small touches from what we're growing and making at home. Guests who are curious are always welcome to ask us about it — and those who simply want privacy can enjoy Hilltop entirely at their own pace.
We're close enough to help when needed and genuinely enjoy hosting, but we never want guests to feel as though they're staying with us. The suite is your space.
That combination of privacy, comfort, nature and personal hospitality is what makes Hilltop Retreat different.
