Beautiful!
The setting and location are absolutely stunning. Perched up on a hill with a view across miles and miles of rolling French landscape, which is even more perfect at sunset with a cold glass of white wine (which was generously provided for us on our arrival). The house itself is big! The downstairs stays quite cool (even in the 38 degree heat that we experienced), and we managed to keep the upstairs cool at night, opening all the windows (and hearing all the wild animals, which was great). There are so many deer, eagles, birds and other wild animals that you will see daily. We sat out one night and just sat there watching a group of 8 deer, including 2 tiny babies, grazing in the field opposite in the hazy evening light, before staring at an array of pristine stars in the warm night sky. As for the place... the pool is wonderful, tucked away round the back and perfectly secluded. The house is beautiful and charming, although if I had to find a criticism it would be that it could do with a bit of modernising or freshening up inside. Having said that, we hardly spent any time inside except to sleep and prepare food. Also note, bring your own pool towels. Otherwise, everything else is provided. We would definitely return and are already contemplating staying again next year, but for longer this time. The local village of Penne is a treat and dinner at The Terrasse restaurant is a must. Also the local villages of Puycelsi and Saint Antonin are worth a visit.
