About this property
McDonald cottage - wine country getaway
McDonald cottage is one of five cottages at Glen Ayr Cottages, situated in the heart of Pokolbin vineyards, five minutes' drive from Hunter Gardens, concert venues, and many wineries. McDonald is a comfortable three-bedroom cottage with two queen beds and twin singles. It has one bathroom. It has a large living and kitchen area with an open fire and air-conditioning. The kitchen is fully equipped, and all linen is provided.
The cottage is kept meticulously clean by our long-term housekeeper.
McDonald cottage is an hour and forty-five minutes' drive from the beginning of the M1 Motorway (Pacific Highway) at Wahroonga, and an hour from the centre of Newcastle. Despite being within five minutes' drive of many large wineries, it is quiet and secluded. It looks towards the neighbouring Audrey Wilkinson's vineyard from its verandah. Nearby attractions include wine tasting, fine restaurants, galleries, horse riding, hot air ballooning, bushwalking, golfing and sky diving.
There is also a great variety of birds and other wildlife in the surrounding area, including kangaroos and frill-necked lizards; kangaroos often graze in front of the cottage.
McDonald is comfortable and clean.

Had a great time at the property, my friends all love it. And the dogs too. William was great too, thanks again for letting us stay in - definitely recommend
The owner was extremely helpful and accomodating.
The Cottage was very clean and self contained. Very Comfortable while relatively close to Cessnock, but enough distance to still have peaceful tranquillity.
Great views at an affordable price amongst many wineries in the area.

This cottage was extremely impressive and provided everything you would ever need. It was clean, neat, cosy and spacious for our family. We loved the location and it is so close to everywhere we wated to travel. Thanks Bill for your kind hospitality and being a dog friendly cottage. We had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend your cottage!!!
The cottage was fantastic. Clean, easy to access, quiet. The online photos don’t do it justice- it’s a lot better and comfortable than it looks. Fireplace was perfect for the cold winter night.

Perfect private position
This cabin was perfect for us as it was in the heart of the wine district, great amount of space for us and the dogs loved the balcony kangaroo spotting. could easily fit 4 people or even 6. Great easy to light fire. Exactly best spot for us.
Stayed at this beautiful cottage as our daughter was getting married at the Ben Ean was really close and would definitely recommend. Cannot wait to come back again .
Everything was perfect.
We stayed at Glen Ayr Cottage when we booked to attend a concert at Hope Estate. It was a lovely experience. The cottage was clean and roomy with a well stocked fire place and our host Bill could not have been more helpful. Will definitely book again
So sorry for the delay in my review Bill! You are an absolutely wonderful host and made everything so easy! The cottage was perfect and the fire place was an total favourite of all! Thanks so much! Simple perfection
We enjoyed our stay at McDonald Cottage very much. It was clean and comfortable with a well set out floor plan. All amenities were provided.
It was in a calm and quiet environment and it would be ideal for a longer stay.
The price was very reasonable.
An important improvement I would suggest is that a ramp be installed for people with mobility issues. The stairs and uneven ground were a bit of a challenge for one of our party.
We had an amazing weekend. House is comfortable and has everything needed. Majestic views.
Perfect stay for a weekend with friends. Close to everything. Walking distance to a few wineries.
Everything was smooth.
If I had to pick something would be the shower head. Not enough flow and streams in different direction. That is just a minor thing, otherwise happy and would definitely come back again.
Ps. Late check out was a plus!

Basic to the max.
Biggest problem, no hair dryer, which was unusual. never happened in Australia or any where we have travelled world wide, which resulted in us having to drive to buy one because we were going to a wedding, 4 females. Fridge, unstable rocked around every time door was opened. Outdoor BBQ, badly rusted, not useable, no matches to light if you wanted to. No proper gas one that could easily fit on deck. Steep steps at back where car parking is, no support/safety handles. Steep step at back door, no handles, unsafe. No wifi, or coffee table to put drinks, food on. No instructions for cook top 6 people couldn't work out how to use it, so, no cooking anything inside or out, oven only. Many cobwebs inside and some window sills unclean, dust along top of bed head and the underneath of chairs, cobwebs in kitchen cupboards and corners of lounge room. Very basic, minimal necessities, no shampoo, conditioner. If we had known this we could have brought it with us, instead we had to go shopping for it. The cheapest, thin toilet paper ever seen.
Loved the quaint cottage with large veranda, beautiful and peaceful setting in the trees. Very clean kitchen and bathroom with all you need to cook up a meal,
