THE CLOSEST WALK TO THE BEACH...!
StormySky BeachHouse has been voted in the Top 10 rental homes on Kangaroo Island by South Australia Tourism and is a is a light and spacious character beach house literally 100 steps from the beach. It is tucked into a secluded bush setting, so that whilst one hears the waves crashing on the beach, there is protection from the elements. The beach house will appeal to people wanting accommodation designed for a nature based holiday experience, yet still providing all the comforts required to have a relaxing and enjoyable break.
StormySky has three bedrooms with one queen, one double and two single beds, so can sleep six people comfortably. There is a fully equipped kitchen so that one can take advantage of any locally bought specialty Kangaroo Island produce, and adjacent to the living area is a great outdoor patio with BBQ. The lounge has a cosy wood fire for those cool nights, a TV, stereo, books and games, and there are overhead fans in the living area and main bedroom for the warmer days. Please be mindful that the house is entirely run on rainwater, so minimal water consumption is appreciated.
SURROUNDINGS
Those 100 steps or so from StormySky BeachHouse brings you to the middle of the expansive Vivonne Bay beach with its captivating turquoise water. The Eleanor and Harriet Rivers, with their calm water, are both great walks from here. The Harriet is suitable for boating, fishing and safe swimming for the kids and there is a playground on the western side of the river. Further around, near Castle Rock and the jetty there is good snorkeling. The jetty of course is a great place to try your hand at catching dinner.
Wildlife abounds, with wallabies, possums and goannas seen regularly near the house. Little Penguins can sometimes be sighted after dark near the jetty and there is the odd Fur Seal sighting; in the winter months one may spot Southern Right Whales. Birds are ubiquitous and are seen in abundance both in the bush and on the sea shore. Our favourite visitors to the house are the Superb Fairy Wren and the beautiful Firetail Finch. Fill up the bird bath outside the kitchen window to encourage more feathered visitors!
The local shop stocks basic supplies, makes the best whiting burger and down the road at Outdoor Action one can hire gear such kayaks, canoes, sandboards and surfboards. The local golf course is an experience. And the coastline is stunning; one can walk along the beach for miles. If the southerly breeze or the surf beach is a little too much for you, turn towards the jetty and you will find a little sheltered swimming spot at the end of the beach, or walk over that headland to the safe and beautiful Castle Rock beach.
Vivonne Bay is ideally placed to access all of the major attractions on the Island. Little Sahara (sand boarding) and Raptor Domain (amazing bird shows) are close by. Flinders Chase (for Admirals Arch and the Remarkable Rocks), Seal Bay, Hanson Bay and Kelly Hill Caves are all within a half hour drive.
