La Charnière is a place that allows you to find calm, reconnect, celebrate occasions or spend time with loved ones in a luxury retreat for couples or individuals in the heart of the Limousin countryside.

With a peaceful and calm rural location in the Parc Naturel Régional Périgord-Limousin, the gite is well presented, comfortable and tasteful offering everything you could need for your stay.

The gite is a well-equipped one-bedroom cottage, including an enclosed garden with your own hot tub, and seasonal access to a private heated pool and extensive pool terrace.

The property offers a super comfortable super-king sized bed, rainfall shower, well equipped kitchen and high quality linens. TV (French and English), Netflix and WiFi.

Offering its own private parking area and entrance, the gite and its garden are completely enclosed and are not overlooked by our own or neighbouring properties, offering a peaceful, private and undisturbed stay.

Everything will be ready for your arrival, and we can even provide celebration packages, breakfast hampers or arrival meals (for a small additional cost). Our rates include linen, electricity, gas and local taxes at no extra charge.

We offer high standards, discreet customer service and have exceptional reviews from guests. La Charnière is classified 4* and recipients of Traveller Awards in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

La Charnière is available year-round with no peak rates and no fixed arrival or departure days, allowing you flexibility with your travel dates. We only have a minimum 2-night stay even in peak season.

La Charnière is also able to accommodate one child up to the age of 2, and a travel cot and highchair can be provided. Otherwise it is an adult only property. We also do not accept pets.

La Charnière is located on the borders of the Haute Vienne, Dordogne and Charente, and on the route of Richard the Lionheart. The location is peaceful and calm, in the heart of nature.

There are beautiful towns, historic sites, and points of interest to visit locally. These range from contemporary art galleries to historic castles and Roman villas, weekly markets, food festivals and beautiful lakes.

We have some fantastic restaurants in the area from Michelin starred dining to casual bistros offering local cuisine. There are also several cafes, bars and live music venues in the local area.

We are close to the leisure lakes of Haute Charente, and just 10 minutes from La Prèze International Golf Course with an18-hole Champions Course.

For those looking for a little more activity during their holiday, there is also bowling, kayaking, swimming, go-karting, horse riding and fishing nearby.

We are also accredited with the Randonnée 87 tourist label for walkers, cyclists and mountain bikers, marking us out as a perfect place or stopover for these guests.

The property is situated rurally, so a car or other form of transport is essential. We are approx. 10 minutes drive from the nearest amenities (boulangerie, bars shops etc).

La Charnière offers the perfect stay, whether you want to stay hidden for a weekend, or explore our beautiful part of France.

We are a British family who have lived in France since 2016. We renovated our property and became hosts in 2018 with both a gite and chambre d'hote (B&B).

We enjoy travelling and exploring the local areas, and living the French way of life. We especially enjoy eating out and trying the fantastic local food, and destinations further afield. We've been lucky enough to stay in luxurious and high quality accommodation all over the world and want to share this feeling of luxury with our guests at our own property.

We pride ourselves on offering a high standard of hospitality, yet are discreet and we leave our guests to their privacy during their stay. We are, of course, available to guests if needed.

Why they chose this property

We love this area of France, visiting several times before buying our property here in 2013. We have spent a lot of time and effort renovating the main property after it had been empty for 30 years.

It is situated rurally but nothing is too far away, there are plenty of places to explore within a short drive, and we provide our guests with lots of local information on the area and things to do in their welcome pack.

Our location is ideal to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the countryside, but in a short time you can be in the hustle and bustle of Piégut market, soaking up the rays on the beach at Saint Estèphe, or experiencing city life in Limoges or Angouleme.

What makes this property unique

Our gite, La Charnière, is a former worker's cottage, bread oven and pigsties that were also derelict and encompassed by trees when we purchased the house. The building has been sympathetically and tastefully restored by us to offer the luxury hideaway that is La Charnière.

We want the stay to be about our guests, you are not tied to inconvenient check in times and expensive times to travel. We have no set check in or check out days, no peak rates and flexible check in and check out times. Aside from unpacking, everything will be ready for you when you arrive!
