A breathtaking property tucked into the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Brookwood House is an environmentally conscious retreat space designed to bring peace and relaxation to the lives of its guests.
Nearly 7,500 square feet of spacious, warming energy await. We've curated the ideal space to unplug, unwind, and reconnect. Brookwood is an ideal setting for art, music, and simple rest with your family and friends. We have a large pool and a creek for swimming.
PLEASE NOTE: The pool is open in the summer season Mid May - Mid September, when our pool is open we have a 7 night minimum check in Sunday - check out Sunday. If we have not rented a certain week in our summer season within 45 days of check in we will accommodate a shorter stay. Our off season minimum stay is 3 nights. Ask us about our huge discounts for weekly stays during the fall and winter months at Brookwood!
Pool season May 8 - Sept 15 (7 night minimum) Brookwood was lovingly designed and constructed by the owners. We have 5 bedrooms, 3.5 bath with a giant swimming pool, outdoor shower, and a creek winding through the back.
As soon as you enter the foyer you welcomed with beautiful architecture of floor to ceiling windows overlooking the pool from the living room. Beautiful unique art displays from local artists. Every corner you turn you are sure to recognize a special piece on display. The master bedroom is to the left as you enter the home, with it's on-suite master bath, where a jacuzzi style tub awaits.
Outside we have a gas grill, fire-pit, terraced gardens, a veranda where you can watch bald eagles and heron, and even a sleeping deck with swings and netting to protect you from those pesky mosquitos. Spend a night outside listening to the sound of the Virginia peepers and the bubbling creek and wake up feeling brand new!
Cozy places abound in the corners of this lovely house, where you can relax and unwind while watching the abundant wildlife of these fertile mountains. Upstairs, there's a secret room that's great for kids, big and small, to hide out and play. But you have to get here to find it, and you're not allowed to tell!
We love hosting but are very particular about who we allow into our space. We hope that whoever shares this space will treat it with respect. We have created the space as a home for family reunions, weddings, and yoga retreats - it is not for parties.
Feel free to reach out if you have any questions. We look forward to hosting you.

Very nice stay. The pool is amazing and the setting is very secluded despite being ten minutes from any service you may want. The staff was very responsive and very nice.
Absolutely beautiful stay. Had my bachelorette weekend here, the house and views are just dreamy. Great communication with host, close to hiking and caverns- this place has it all!
An extremely cozy home! My best girlfriends and I got together before my wedding for them to get to know each other better. We couldn’t have found a better place to stay.
Location was great—near stores and restaurants but still quiet and beautifully surrounded by nature. Of note, there is a railroad and we hear train daily a couple times a day and during the night. That woke us up most nights in some of the rooms but not the basement area. Bring ear plugs if that bothers you.
We had a great time at the Beautiful Brookwood Estate. We had 4 under 5 and they all had a great time the pool and creek were wonderful. There are a lot of things to do around Roanoke with littles and we thoroughly enjoyed the trip !!
This is one of the best vacation rentals I've stayed at. The listing and pictures are accurate. The house is well cared for and well stocked. The view was great. Pool clean and great, even for their second week of pool season. Takes a little drive(30 minutes or so) for many of the hikes but not a huge deal. We would definitely recommend and come back.
The house is beautiful- feels secluded but close to town. Regan, the caretaker/manager, was wonderful. Would definitely stay here again if in the area - only for much longet next time!

We are so grateful you, your mom, and your sister chose Brookwood! It was an absolute joy having you here and we sincerely hope you stay with us again in the future. We hope your wedding in Lexington was delightful and that you're home safe and sound, back in the hustle and the bustle :)
With gratitude,
Regan, Adam & Lizza
We visited your home for a family getaway with our kids and grandkids. Natalie greeted us and was a great source of information the entire time! We will definitely come back!
We so enjoyed our time at Brookwood, we were ages 2-70, there was plenty of space to play, talk or play games together and many delightful spots to be alone to soak up the beauty, think or journal. We used the big table not only for family meals but also much art time, this home inspires creativity. AND THE POOL! We all enjoyed a swim or two each day. One night while star gazing we saw the International Space Station fly by. This home is a place to make treasured memories.
We loved the surroundings and the pool. At one time during our week, we had 10 adults and 2 three year olds. There was always plenty of room for everybody. Driving toward Roanoke, there is a good choice of restaurants. Shannon was quick to respond to any questions. We would definitely return. Coming from South Carolina, the trip up to the house is quite harrowing, only to be done in the daylight to be safe.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this well appointed cabin beside a babbling brook outside of Roanoke, VA. The rooms are thoughtfully decorated, and there are multiple locations to stretch out and relax and listen to the sounds of nature. There is a beautiful pool. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here.

Just outside the city and minutes from everything there is a gem of a home. It’s tucked into the mountains and sitting along a beautiful bold creek. We had family in town visiting and booked Brookwood and we were in no way disappointed. Beautiful home, beautiful setting and an excellent host. 10/10 recommended!!!

We had a very enjoyable time everything we needed was there and David (Caretaker)is fantastic. Lots of stairs and if older like us seniors it was difficult going down and back up from the pool. But otherwise we had a great time.

Hey Bruce,
Thanks for coming over with your group and thanks for taking the time to write this review. Glad to know that David took great care of your group and enjoyed the pool! We hope to welcome you back again sometime in the near future.
Safe travels ahead,
Adam
Our family gathered for the second time at this unique location. The setting makes it a delight for any that love “the woods,” with a babbling brook nearby, songbirds serenading, AND a fun pool too! Two granddaughters learned to dive this week, and all had fun. The “secret room” is a treasure for our young grandson. It’s a lovely place in a beautiful area of our country. We hope to return to Brookwood House for our next family gathering.

Rhonda, thank you so much for your kind review! It was such a pleasure to host your family for a second time and we can't wait for your next return! Your family was so joyful and we are delighted you were able to find connection and fun at Brookwood! The drawings and paintings that your little ones left for us were an absolute delight! We are so grateful for your presence here. Thank you for treating Brookwood as your home away from home!
our family of 10, from ages 15 to 80, had such a pleasant week at Brookwood house. Unfortunately, it rained every day. however, we usually found some time to be able to use the lovely pool. The accommodations were very spacious for all of us to be together in one room or we could find plenty of areas for some quiet alone time as well. It is a beautiful house with a most interesting decor.
This property looks and feels like an Italian villa - or what I imagine one to be. The house and grounds are fabulous- spacious, beautiful, peaceful. Everything you need is at your fingertips. We especially loved the enormous pool and the babbling creek beyond. There is original artwork at every turn and the mismatched dining chairs and plates give the place a bohemian feel. Kudos to Natalie and Shannon for asking any question we had immediately. Despite the feel of being in the country, Roanoke is only 10 minutes away with tons of good restaurants, walking and biking trails, activities and a selection of food shopping options. Also, the Blue Ridge Mountains offer a wide variety of hiking trails. We hope to return!

Thank you for staying with us! Come back to see us!
Our adult children and their families all came at various points during the week to stay at Brookwood with us. From the moment we entered the door we were enchanted by the beauty ,artistry, and thoughtfully designed spaces for quiet and for connection. From the air hockey table to the 'secret room', to exploring the creek- our grandchildren were inspired and hooked! The adults loved the books, stereo system, ambiance, art, and the vision of Brookwood. The beds were super comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed and more.

I hope you will join us again next summer!
About the host
Hosted by Brookwood House Innkeeper
Brookwood House is owner operated with a team of professionals who truly enjoy hosting guests from all over while you create memorable experiences. I the owner, Adam am an architect, builder, sculptor and energy geek. In 1984 I moved to Floyd County,Virginia, where I designed and built in the Roanoke, Floyd and New River Valley area. I was co-owner of Structures Design/Build until I sold it several years ago. I have designed and built hundreds of homes for other folks. Brookwood is the fourth home I designed and built with my wife and life partner, Elizabeth.
The feeling we were striving for at Brookwood is one of relaxation, comfort and safety. At the time we built I had 40+ employees and was working 7 days a week with no vacations, I designed and built Brookwood to be a refuge and healing space. When I got home, I wanted “instant calm and comfort”. We have certainly found the Brookwood “aura” to be this way. In the last 10 years, I have become a leader in the international Passivhaus movement, which is a cutting-edge technology for low energy high performance buildings.
The knowledge I have is now being sought after all over the world. This has led my wife and to relocate to Toronto, where I am acting as an educator for a Canadian Non-Profit promoting Passivhaus on the national level. I was also chosen for a 3-year Edmund Hillary Fellowship in 2018 in New Zealand as a Global Impact Entrepreneur and have just been awarded a permanent designation as an Edmund Hillary Fellow. So, Elizabeth and I have chosen to share Brookwood with others, so Welcome to Brookwood!
Why they chose this property
Brookwood is very special. We designed this home with intentions to welcome peace, creativity, and a gathering space for many to enjoy through the years. We believe there are many reasons why our home is special. Whether it be the unique architectural features that we hand built, supporting local artists by displaying their art in Brookwood, or the feeling and special energy when you walk through the arches of the foyer. We welcome you to experience the love we have put into our home. Be our guests!
What makes this property unique
Lots of unique benefits. The most important benefit is having a team of hosts on your side who truly care about you and want to provide an exceptional experience. Of course, having a pool, hammocks, games, and more, add to the unique benefits. Brookwood House was designed to hosts family, wellness, and self care retreats. Gather together here with your closest friends and family, we are sure you will feel right at home.
