About this property
The Globe House on Munjoy Hill - Walk to Breweries
A fun, modern, cozy apartment sitting on top of Munjoy Hill on North Street. Enjoy some of the best views in the city facing southwest to downtown, the Back Cove, with the White Mountains in the background, and stunning sunsets. The apartment is part of a two-unit home that we own and occupy. Enjoy the sunny backyard overflowing with flowers, hops, apples and grapes. We are a 2-minute walk to Washington Avenue, where there are a number of amazing restaurants, bars, breweries, distilleries and hip stores. We are an 8-minute walk to the East Bayside brewery area.
Our home was built in 1876. It is one of the oldest homes on the hill. We bought the house in 2010 and have renovated it. We are a family of four living upstairs. We are an international family. I am from Cape Cod, Massachusetts, and my wife is from Lisbon, Portugal. We love to travel the world seeking adventure and sun in the winter. We are very passionate about surfing, skiing, mountain biking, beer, food and Portland, so if you have any questions please feel free to ask us.
We made the apartment a fun blend of the historic nature of the home with modern touches and artwork we have picked up while traveling the globe. My wife Rita from Portugal speaks Portuguese, English, Spanish, French, and Italian for those travelers preferring to communicate in these languages. We truly hope you have a wonderful stay in our little oasis on the hill.
Please note that our two-bedroom set up is “railroad style”, so you go through one bedroom to get to the second bedroom. This is a common and authentic style of building in the 1800s. This setup is great for families with kids, but we will defer to you to decide if it is comfortable for two couples seeking privacy. As a solution. we have a sectional sofa that converts to a queen size bed in the living room. This is not a traditional pullout with uncomfortable bars in the middle, instead if feels like an actual mattress. We have a super soft topper for it to make it even cozier. The living room has window curtains that can be closed for privacy for those sleeping on the converted sofa.

About the host
Hosted by Ryan and Rita Pierce on the Hill

We are travel-loving international family of four, from Cape Cod and Lisboa, Portugal. We call Portland home since 2007, and that has been our place between world explorations since then. We have travelled around the world several times and have found our favorite nooks in far and near places. We love meeting fellow travelers, as well as families who are adventuring and exploring. Ryan has his own business striping running tracks allover the Northeast, while Rita is a marine environment scientist and engineer who speaks 5 languages. We have two young daughters who have been exploring the Globe with us since birth, and who go to school right on our street in this super friendly neigborhood of Munjoy Hill.
Why they chose this property
Since 2007, the Munjoy Hill has become the hip neighborhood of Portland, with easy parking, its proximity to the breathtaking Eastern Promenade overlooking Casco Bay, as well as the amazing sunsets over the cityscape and Back Cove. Even though this is a residential historical neighborhood, super cool restaurants, cafes, breweries, stores, and little markets abound within a few minutes walk. We love the community and all the families we are friends with in the neighborhood!
What makes this property unique
The Globe House is from 1876 and the historical vibe is present, but with the renovation we underwent, the apartment is bright and relaxing, with the World traveling feel. We love it!
