Retreat to this 1300 square foot, 4 bedroom, 1.5 bath traditional Cape Cod summer cottage offering you an escape and a chance to truly unplug this summer. Sit by a private kettle pond in a blissfully serene setting surrounded by the Cape Cod National Seashore Park. Take a walk through the woods to the ocean's bluff to take in majestic views and breathe the ocean air. Get back to nature with a swim and even an outdoor shower. Set deep in a wooded, private area this rental is a rare opportunity with its simplicity and rustic solitude. It is 10 minute drive by car to ocean beaches, other ponds, and Wellfleet Center. Access the cottage via a 0.6 mile wooded, dirt road. SUV recommended. Linens are provided. Short Getaways available with an added cleaning fee. Save the cleaning fee by booking 7 or more consecutive days. An administrative fee and applicable taxes may apply. No Internet Available. Get some peace and live like it's 1993!

Beautiful location, run down home

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was very happy with the location. I was very dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My family and I really enjoyed getting to spend time on the pond that only the house had access to and walking on the trails that crisscross the woods around it. The house itself was in terrible condition and was stressful to stay in, which was a shame. The response of Berkshire Hathaway, that they’d alert the caretaker, with no additional help was also disappointing. The house was in terrible condition. On the second floor there was terrible water damage. There were holes and bubbling paint on the ceiling with what appeared to be black mold or soot around the edges. There were chipping, peeling broken asbestos tiles on the floor with the subfloor exposed. The carpets and bathmats were filthy and one of the blankets on one of the beds was badly stained. Additionally, while they were upfront about the lack of internet, it was also a cell dead spot so the only way we could call or text anyone was to leave down the dirt roads and drive about 7 minutes out to the Main Street. Overall the condition of the property is a huge shame because the secluded location on a private pond was incredibly special.

Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: First, I'll address some things that might not be obvious from the description. Yes, the property is down a long, bumpy road that you will do better on with an SUV or other high clearance vehicle. We did it with a conventional minivan and VW Golf and did fine but if you're anxious about getting stuck you should be aware of that. Also, there is no WiFi and really no cell coverage. (Every once in a while a random text would come through.) So unless you have a sat phone you will be disconnected from digital devices when you are at the cottage. All that being said, we absolutely loved this place and had a fantastic vacation there. We had two kayaks (which are at the property), three paddleboards, and various inflatables all over the pond. Our kids had friends come and go and everyone loved being able to unplug and just enjoy each other's company and the beautiful setting. At one point three people were floating on the pond reading books. At night and frequently in the morning around breakfast time people just sat around and talked, in a way that you just can't do if everyone has a phone or computer nearby. You can walk from the house to a couple of other ponds (Spectacle, Long and Gull) and to the oceanside beaches, either on the road or on various paths through the woods. (Do a thorough tick check afterward.) And everything Wellfleet Village has to offer is only ten minutes away by car or 15 by bike. The house has plenty of room and is very cozy. It's not for everyone but if you really want to get away for some deep relaxation this place is hard to beat.
