Ashenden's at Penneshaw is the ideal beach-front getaway for your next family holiday or time away with friends. Set on the eastern side of Penneshaw township, Kangaroo Island, on a rocky shore, it is a short walk to a family-friendly beach.
Local attractions such as wineries, farmers markets and wildlife parks are close by for those wishing to explore, or the expansive deck offers the perfect location for eating, reading, entertaining and relaxing.
The ocean views are completely unrestricted - you can spot the ferry and watch for the pod of dolphins that frequently patrol the cove. You might even spot a friendly seal! By night, creep quietly and watch closely for the penguins that make their home on the shore.

Loved how the house opened up to the deck! And loved the view from the deck of the ocean, the dolphins and the kangaroos. The house was comfortable and clean and had everything we needed. Penneshaw beach was my favourite beach, there was a well stocked grocery store in town and we loved the vibe at the pub.

Absolutely beautiful property perfectly positioned in Penneshaw. We spent 3 lovely days and wished that it could have been more. The house has everything that you might need and is very comfortable after a day exploring the island. I can’t recommend it enough!!

Fantastic location with great views. We saw dolphins from balcony, plus wallabies and kangaroos out the back. Ideal for 2 couples. We had friends from UK visiting for my husband's 70th birthday and the house offered a great base for us to show them around KI. Also close to the ferry for the early morning start back to the mainland!

Wonderful Place to Stay

We loved the location of Ashendens on the hilltop overlooking the beautiful turquoise waters of Penneshaw. The dolphins were regular visitors and we enjoyed watching them from the deck. My son swam peacefully with them on several occasions. The house has great facilities and the open plan kitchen, dining and lounge room is open and spacious, taking advantage of the amazing views of the ocean and mainland. The large deck was also a favourite place to enjoy the scenery and wildlife (many wallabies!). Helen, the host was very good at communicating promptly and providing information about the house.

Perfect spot

Throughly enjoyed returning each day to relax on the decking and watch for the dolphins. Main bedroom had a perfect vista and very roomy ensuite. Main bathroom included laundry in shower area. Kitchen well equipped. We all recommend this lovely sanctuary.

Great spot to stay when visiting Peneshaw

We stayed at Ashendens for last 3 nights of our KI holiday. Great spot to visit the Peneshaw end of the island! Fortunately Ashendens had lots of windows as last two days were too wet to utilise the deck! From those windows we saw the dolphins playing and the Sealink activity. Out the back of property we saw a lot of wallabies. Thankyou to Helen for sharing you holiday home with KI visitors.

Spot the dolphins

Where dolphins come to rest, must be the perfect spot for a beach house. We loved the house- need to come back with a bigger group of friends to make the most of it!

Ashendens at Penneshaw has been set up specifically for a family holiday and our rates reflect this. It is the same price for a couple or for a family with no hidden extras.
Penneshaw is a lovely little village with the Sealink Ferry Terminal close by, great cafes offering local produce and wines, Penneshaw Hotel is one of the best, great beaches for swimming, fishing, relaxing and dolphin watching. A beach house perfect for the family getaway - just need to add people, food and wine and you are set.

What makes this property unique

Open space living areas with views from nearly all the rooms to the sea, fully equipped kitchen, a short stroll to the beach, wallabies and kangaroos visit regularly, walking tracks along the coast or up the creek next to the beach house, the dolphins are always in 'our' cove and we have also seen whales cruising by which caused great excitement.
