Located just 3 blocks north of Main Street and Marktplatz (Market Square), Emmie's House is a perfect location for exploring Fredericksburg. The house was originally built circa 1933 by Red and Emmie Schroeder, lifelong residents of Fredericksburg. Emmie was the first woman graduate of the University of Texas School of Pharmacy and Red was a Mayor of Fredericksburg from 1952 to 1958.
Emmie's House has furnishings original to the home in addition to furniture from the family of the current owner. It sits on a large corner lot, known for it's massive Italian Stone Pine tree. The back yard is private and offers both an arbor with Adirondack chairs for lounging and patio with table and chairs to use while grilling on the gas grill.
The home is unusual for Fredericksburg, from it's unique rock exterior to the soaring ceiling in the formal living room. The iron curtain rods and light fixtures are original to the house. Note the hand painted photograph of young Emmie to the right of the fireplace. Emmie's House was renovated in 2020, but retains much of its character from 1933.
Enjoy breakfast in the sunny breakfast room on the vintage table that is original to the house. Dinner can be served in the large dining room on an expansive table that will seat 10 people. The original kitchen is well stocked with most anything you could need for a meal in-house.
The back bedroom has a queen size bed and comfy club chair. The center bedroom has 2 twin beds plus a day bed. The bedding and mattresses are all new in 2020. The front turquoise-pink-black bathroom is also original to the house reflecting Emmie's love of color.
The den was designed to be casual and comfortable. A large 65” smart TV is on one wall. Games are in the credenza below the TV and can be enjoyed on the game table in the den.
If you are seeking the convenience of an in-town, walkable location combined with history and the outdoors, Emmie's House would love to welcome you.

Wonderful, cozy house!
We loved our stay at Emmie's Guesthouse. The cottage is well equipped with everything we needed to cook, sleep comfortably and enjoy some time away with our kids. Lovely, clean and comfy!
This was our group of 5 second annual trip to Fredericksburg. This quaint house was a perfect fit. We spent any home time in front of the fireplace. The house had all we needed and it was easy to get to town.
This house was a great location to Main Street. We loved the feel and history of this home. It had everything we needed (including a variety of coffee) and the beds were super comfy. We enjoyed sitting on the porch under the beautiful tree. We will definitely be back!
We had a girls trip and this house was absolutely perfect! Enjoyed every second of it! Thank you so much!

Emmie's
We enjoyed the stay. The location was very nice and the home filled with beautiful decorations and books. We had a relaxing long weekend. Nice patio to spend time outside. Spotless and comfortable beds.
Thank you for having us.
Four friends spent a fun shopping, eating, poker playing few days at Emmie's House. The accommodations could not have been better. We loved exploring the knick knacks and learning about Fredericksburg's first female pharmacist.

House with so much charm
We felt right at home as soon as we walked into this charming house. So much character and history. The house was much larger than we anticipated.
It is in a very quiet location, yet close to everything.

Great house!
The house was perfect for our group. A girls weekend of 5, so having 2 bathrooms was a must. We all enjoyed looking at the antiques in the house. The beds were very comfortable and everything was very clean. Everyone in the group will definitely stay here again. Thank you.

Comfortable and Sweet Home
Emmie's Guesthouse was a perfect spot for my 40th birthday weekend celebration with friends. The home is beautiful and spacious. We thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor area on the first night. And on the second night enjoyed the spacious bonus living area watching college football. Thank you for a fantastic stay! -Julie and friends.
We were surprised at the amount of room for living and dining and thoroughly enjoyed the den and the back patio and the heavenly backyard. Easy access to the covered parking to load and unload bags. Loved that the refrigerator had ice machine. Also we loved the newer bathroom and extra space to get ready all in the same spot. Perfect home for the 5 of us to enjoy a reunion weekend!

Nice home, Quiet location
Four of us stayed and enjoyed our time at Emmie's and in Fredericksburg. Close enough that we could walk to Main street, but never did! The home had everything we needed. Even a makeup mirror. In case you bring your own coffee, they have a k-cup coffee maker.
My only 'fault' was the sheets and towels were washed with perfume. After taking a shower, we smelled like that perfume!
My entrance code didn't work, but a short call (immediately answered) to the number supplied in emails, they gave me a code that worked. Excellent customer service. I would stay at a Gastehaus Schmidt again.

Best Ever Stay
The highest rating should be 10. Emmie's was the best place we have rented for many years. It was nostalgic in that it reminded us of our grandparents homes, bring back fond memories of past good times. It was cathartic in that it reminded us of the good times we had with our daughter on previous visits to Fredericksburg. Mother's Day was her angel day and we were at peace.
Good experience cozy house. Just some minor things. Instructions on how to get Tv local channels was not clear. Bathroom toilet in main suite kept running and kitchen faucets leaking. Other than that enjoyed our weekend

I live in Fredericksburg, and decided to play tourist with my dearest friend. We loved the house - so cozy and beautiful antiques. It was well stocked with all that we needed. Only thing is we felt like maybe we should not sit outside because we are a little loud after reading the notes, but that was OK. That is totally understandable for the neighbors. Thank you for opening your home and will tell others about it!
We are annual visitors to Fredericksburg for about 15 years now, and we always book a house for our stay. This house was a pleasant stay. The bathrooms, the living areas, the outdoor areas were all very nice and comfortable. The house was clean, well provided for and exactly as described.
I would only make one suggestion, the beds (fully described in their listing) could probably be a bit better quality and only having 1 Queen and 3 small twins was a bit different that our normal experience. Not bad per se, just different. It's a very small suggestion on an otherwise lovely property.

Emmie's Guesthouse
Charming house; love the way the owner has kept the unique style and architecture. The Keyless checkin and checkout is great. Cleanliness was an issue: there was long black hair (definitely not mine) on the floor, a great deal of it in the bathrooms. It was so gross, I took the bath mats outside and cleaned them myself. That is never a good thing in lodging, especially considering what I paid for the accommodations.

Comfortable, but Lacking
We had a reservation for 4 ladies for a two night stay. Although the house itself is lovely and very comfortable, there were only two bath towels, no kitchen towels or paper towels, and our second morning we had to take cold showers because there wasn't any hot water. Gästehaus Schmidt responded and promptly brought more towels and paper towels, but the cold showers were an inconvenience. Great location and very comfortable, but housekeeping needs to be a little more aware of restocking for incoming guests.

Emmie's
The home is very charming, cozy, comfortable and in a good location. We loved the decor and well appointed old with new. It made for a delightful stay.
I did not rate as a 5 because some housekeeping was lacking. The refrigerator inside a bit dirty and not wiped clean before our stay. Light bulbs out at the fireplace light and master bedroom light/fan were burned out and also should have been taken care of. Just a couple items to pass on to housekeeping. All in all a nice stay and would come again and recommend to others.
