About this property

Stunning Mt Ruapehu views · spa, fireplace & drying room for ski families

Imagine waking up to views of the snow-capped peak of Mt Ruapehu from your bedroom window, the mountain dusted in snow, a fresh Nespresso in hand and a full day on the slopes ahead. That's the kind of holiday Mountain Glass delivers - every time.

Tucked on the edge of Ohakune on a peaceful one-acre section, this modern 3-bedroom home is the perfect base for ski and snowboard families who want space, comfort and a few genuine luxuries that most holiday homes simply don't have. After a big day on the mountain, you'll come home to a warm, beautifully equipped house, a steaming spa pool under the stars and a fireplace to sink into. Your gear will be drying overnight in the purpose-built drying room, ready and warm for morning. And breakfast will be made in a kitchen so well-stocked it might just be better than your own.
This is the kind of place guests come back to year after year.

THE VIEWS

The views of Mt Ruapehu's snow-capped peak from this property are the real headline act. The open-plan living area looks directly out to the mountain, framed by the bi-folding doors that open onto the expansive deck. Whether you're cooking dinner, having a morning coffee or just sitting on the sofa, the mountain is always there. Guests mention the views more than any other feature and once you're here, you'll understand why. On clear winter days when the peak is white with fresh snow, it's a view that never gets old.

The large deck extends the living space outdoors and is the perfect spot for an evening drink as the last of the sun fades on the snow-capped peak.

THE SPA POOL & FIREPLACE

After a long day of skiing or snowboarding, there is nothing - absolutely nothing - better than getting into the outdoor spa pool. The jets ease out every ache while you look up at the stars with a glass of something cold. It's the moment guests talk about most, and it never gets old.

Come back inside to the warmth of the wood-burning fireplace. The whole open-plan living area fills with that particular kind of warmth you only get from a real fire. Add the feather-filled sofas, the mountain view through the window and a good movie on Netflix, and the evenings take care of themselves. The heat pump and heat transfer system means the whole house, including the bedrooms, stays warm all night.

THE DRYING ROOM

This is the feature that ski and snowboard families get genuinely excited about. The large, purpose-built enclosed drying room in the garage has a dehumidifier, heater, racks and plenty of hanging space for the whole family's gear. Hang everything up when you get home — jackets, salopettes, gloves, boots, thermals — and by morning it's all warm, dry and ready to go again. No more damp gear, no more wet boots. Just another great day on the mountain.

There's also a ski and snowboard rack inside for keeping boards and skis safe and secure, plus ample storage for all your kit.

THE KITCHEN

Honestly, this kitchen will surprise you. Most holiday homes have the basics. This one has everything - and then some. Large pots for batch cooking, a slow cooker, a big roasting dish, a full set of cookware and utensils, a blender, a toaster, an electric kettle, a microwave, a full-size oven and stovetop, a dishwasher, a kitchen island and a fridge freezer with plenty of room for a week's worth of groceries. The pantry is stocked with essentials so you're not starting from zero on day one.

And then there's the Nespresso pod machine (coffee pods supplied). A proper café-quality coffee to start the day makes everything better.

Guests consistently comment on how well equipped the kitchen is - it genuinely is one of the best-stocked kitchens you'll find in a holiday home anywhere in New Zealand. Cook up a roast after a big day on the mountain, a big pasta for the group, or just a lazy weekend breakfast - this kitchen handles it all without missing a beat.

EVENINGS IN

When the day's adventures are done and the fire is lit, Mountainglass is an incredibly comfortable place to just be. The smart TV has Netflix, Disney+ and Neon accounts ready to go, plus built-in Chromecast so you can stream from your own device. There's a genuinely impressive collection of books, board games and puzzles covering all ages - kids, families and adults. Whether it's a competitive game after dinner or a quiet read by the fire, the evenings here are as good as the days.

THE BEDROOMS

The home sleeps 8 across three bedrooms, each thoughtfully set up for a comfortable night's sleep.

The master bedroom is a genuine highlight - a luxurious queen mattress with hotel-quality linen, a private ensuite and those stunning Mt Ruapehu peak views right from the pillow. It's the kind of room you don't want to leave in the morning.

The second bedroom has a queen bed with the same high-quality linen and a comfortable mattress that guests consistently rave about.

The third bedroom is set up perfectly for kids, with two full-sized bunk beds - four single beds in total - making it a great space for the little ones to claim as their own.

Two bathrooms - including a bathtub for a proper soak after the slopes - plus a separate toilet means no morning queues, even with a full house of eight.

FOR DOGS & FAMILIES

Travelling with your dog? Brilliant - bring them along. Up to two house-trained dogs are welcome for a small $25 fee per stay. With an acre of land to roam, they'll be in heaven. There's a small fully fenced grass area with shelter for when you need to head out and leave them behind, and an outdoor shower to rinse them off after muddy walks or a day on the trails before they come back inside.

For families with babies and toddlers, a portacot and cot bedding are available.

THE LOCATION

Mountain Glass sits on the edge of Ohakune in a semi-rural lifestyle property area - quiet, spacious and private, but still genuinely close to everything. The walk into town takes about 15 minutes along the stream and through the bush, which is a lovely way to start or end the day. Or jump in the car and you're there in one minute.

Ohakune township has everything you need - supermarket, cafes, restaurants, bars, ski and board hire shops, and a great local vibe. The Junction, at the other end of town, comes alive in winter with après-ski bars and restaurants. Turoa Ski Field on Mt Ruapehu is about a 20-minute drive up the mountain road.

Beyond skiing, the Ruapehu region has world-class mountain biking, the Old Ghost Road, the Tongariro Alpine Crossing (about 50 minutes away), trout fishing, and some of the most dramatic walking tracks in New Zealand. Summer or winter, there's no shortage of things to do.

Rest and relaxation

My partner and I spend a long weekend here to switch off from our hectic schedules and get some much needed rest. This place is a very special place with all the little touches which make it feel like home. The weather was cold and stormy and it was just perfect with the fire going and to enjoying the spa pool. We will definitely be back soon and with a bunch of friends too!

Just too fabulous!

Where to start. This property is exceptional. There is a stunning view out the back to the mountains and the neighbourhood is relaxingly rural - not isolated but quiet and private too. Inside, the house is full of thoughtful details. From the art on the walls to the free Netflix and Disney+, the really well provisioned pantry, the lovely linen on the beds... I could go on. Well done to the owners who clearly know exactly what families need on holiday and being able to talk the canine family member was the icing on the cake. We had a great time and hope to be able to go back when we get a chance.

Peaceful oasis with amazing views

Loved the style of this property and all the little touches the owners had put in - like being able to ask Alexa the WiFi password. The house is beautifully appointees with all you need. We hardly left as it was so lovely to sit on the deck and gaze at the mountain. The perfect break in the perfect property.

Comfortable bach with everything you need

Lovely comfortable bach in a beautiful setting. It’s close to the township but still feels like you’re in the countryside. The property had everything you need and we were so lucky to be able to take our dogs with us. I’d certainly recommend it and we’ll aim to go back at some point
