The foyer sets the tone before you've put down a single bag. Vaulted ceilings. A striking staircase. The kind of architectural first impression that makes you slow down and actually look at where you are. From that moment forward, this home delivers on the promise consistently — room by room, fireplace by fireplace, right through to the screened porch that will almost certainly become the unofficial headquarters of your entire stay.
Four bedrooms. Four bathrooms. Three fireplaces distributed across the spaces where they matter most. Two and a half miles from downtown Highlands. One house that somehow manages to feel both grand and genuinely livable at the same time.
A Main Level That Doesn't Waste a Single Room - The open-concept kitchen and living area is where the trip takes shape. High-end appliances, beautiful countertops, and a large island that handles everything from serious meal prep to morning coffee to mapping out the day's hike — the kitchen here is built for people who actually cook, and equally welcoming for people who just like to stand around one while someone else does. The adjacent living room with its stone fireplace is the natural landing spot for slower moments — reading, streaming, the kind of afternoon that disappears pleasantly without anyone noticing. The dining room, anchored by a gorgeous table with space for the whole group, earns its keep for everything from proper dinners to marathon board game sessions.
The main-level primary suite operates on a different level entirely. A king bed. A private seating area in front of its own fireplace. A beautifully appointed ensuite that makes the morning routine feel like something worth lingering over. This is the suite that whoever claims it will not be giving up gracefully.
Upstairs, Everyone Gets Their Own Space - Three additional bedrooms on the upper level, each with a private bathroom — a detail that sounds simple and turns out to be the difference between a smooth group trip and a logistical negotiation every morning. Comfortable, well-appointed, and private enough that guests on this level feel like they have their own wing of the house.
The Screened Porch is the Reason You'll Come Back - Every element of this home is well-executed. The screened porch is exceptional. A fireplace. Generous seating arranged for actual conversation. A gaming table for when the evening needs a little more structure. And the particular mountain stillness that a screened porch delivers — close enough to outside to hear everything, sheltered enough to stay as long as you want regardless of what the weather decides to do.
Morning coffee here. Post-hike decompression here. After-dinner drinks that stretch well past midnight here. The screened porch is the room that ends up in every story told about this trip for the next several years.
2.5 Miles From Everything Highlands Does Best Award-winning restaurants. Art galleries. Live performances at the Highlands Playhouse. Spas. Boutique shopping. Scenic hiking trails that reward whatever level of effort you're willing to give. Downtown Highlands packs more into a small mountain town than most places manage with ten times the footprint — and it's all 2.5 miles from the front door.
Come for the mountains. Stay for the porch. Leave already calculating when you can come back.

Used the house completely.
Used the house completely. It’s layout and excellent construction plus huge screened-in porch were truly appreciated. All contact was over phone, clean and simple.
Highlands is our favorite place, and this was by far one of the greatest houses we have rented. The house was beautiful but comfortable, well stocked, and the two wood burning fireplaces were amazing! There was so much room for our toddlers to crawl/walk, and Alicen was always quick to reply and help us with any question! What a gorgeous house and a wonderful week for our family! Thank you!

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely home.
We enjoyed our stay at this lovely home. The team was responsive when I had questions. I appreciated your help. Alicen and Susan were very helpful. And Lori answered many of my questions prior to my arrival since this was the first time I have used your rental company.
One suggestion...In the past when we have rented Highlands properties, including this one, we were able to send a check for our stay and avoid any extra charges incurred by using a cc. It would be nice if you would accept a check. I offered to send one and was told by Lori that I had to use a cc and pay the fee.

Thanks for the review Dorothy. We're happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay. Unfortunately when you book on a third party booking platform, like VRBO, we don't have the option of letting you pay by check.

We specifically contacted this company because the house we love to stay in, when we want to stay near downtown is currently with them. This home holds a lot of memories and a truly special place in our hearts. It wouldn't be possible to have a "bad stay" here or in Highlands. That being said, this is the most amount of money that we've ever spend on a rental as well as the most issues we've had during a stay at a vacation rental.
We checked in on 7/8 and were not able to take showers due to them backing up, Joe wasn't able to get to the house until the evening of 7/9. On 7/13 the shower light in the master bathroom went out, Joe was contacted. The next evening he came out and was very confused that the light socket wasn't a traditional bulb. Then next time he came, a few days later, he couldn't figure it out. The issue wasn't resolved during our stay and weren't able to take showers downstairs in our room. On 7/14 the AC upstairs stopped working, Joe was not able to locate the ac handler and didn't have a shopvac available otherwise my husband wouldn't removed the clog. The ac tech there on 7/15 for almost 4 hrs., on the 16th the AC stopped working again - at this point saying anything felt pointless. My text messages were not getting the same response time, or even responded to at all. We understand that issue can arise, but we were not able to enjoy our vacation the way we had imagined. I'm still waiting for Alicen to get back with me after getting in touch with the property owners (from 7/15).
Alicen was great during the booking process and responded to my check-in questions quickly.
Joe was polite, but it was clear that he didn't know the property (where rooms were located) and didn't seem to have a clear understanding of property maintenance (ie why an AC would need to be shop vacuumed to remove a clog, how to spray bug spray outside the house, different types of light bulbs needed for different sockets).
