We had a wonderful stay. The house was comfortable and spacious, beach was beautiful, and we had a blast playing pickleball. We would love to stay here again!
A week stay at Bent Pines has been a family tradition we unfortunately haven't been able to make happen for the last few years. We were so glad we were able to return this year. The house is clean, well located, and the screened in porch can't be beat for an afternoon of games.
We stayed here with my parents (70s) and kids (3 & 7). The house was nice. It was was pretty easy to get to private beach, though there were a number of stairs. The beach was big with lots of great sand, and the water was nice - this was the highlight. The main downside was the that basement area was very dark and damp, requiring a de-humidifier to run all time. The house also felt a little small for us (in part because the basement area felt less usable), and we wished the screened porch (where we spent a lot of our evenings) had more comfortable furniture. There are enough restaurants in town (15 min drive) with takeout options. The owner was super responsive.
Bent Pines had everything you could ever ask for. Kristie was very sweet, although we really did not need her anything as she provided all the amenities and the details we needed. The beach was clean and sandy with no rocks. The Kayak’s were so much fun. The house was super clean and spacious. There were 8 adults and an infant in our party and there was plenty of space for everyone. This is our new annual family vacation spot for sure!!! I highly recommend!!

Three generations of our family gathered here for a relaxing fun filled week. The home and the beach are beautiful and very well supplied. Spices, cookware, games, plastic wrap,, kayaks, plenty of outdoor chairs, etc. All the little things you might have forgotten were there- except towels, no beach, bath or hand towels provided. It was a bit of a hike to the beach for the young children in our group as there are over 80 stairs to the beach, but it was good exercise for the adults. Beach is pristine and great for walking or building sand castles. We all enjoyed our stay.
This lake cottage provided the perfect get-away vacation for our family. We loved the sunsets, the beach, the neighboring communities and all the nearby attractions. What a great week we had!
We just printed photos from our amazing week at Bent Pines and were reminded of how much fun we had. This is a very unique property with amazing views of the lake, great private beach access and sprawling countryside in your front yard. Short Driving distance to many fun family attractions including Lewis Farms, Michigan adventures and silver lake sand dunes. The home was spacious, well appointed and so clean. Kristy was great. We will be back again, what special memories!!
We were a group of 7 ladies looking to get away for a weekend and just relax!! The house was beautiful, Lake Michigan was just a few steps away, and the town was a short car ride. Campfires, sunsets, kayaking, and quiet! Perfect for us. Thanks!
Fabulous from beginning to end. Beautiful location and sunsets. Dunes were more than I dreamed and small towns and great temperatures made the week. Catching steel head, lake trout and cohoe salmon on a Monday charter was great too. Can't wait to do it again.

Beautiful home and location
The home is beautiful and the location was perfect! We definitely enjoyed our stay, the fire pit and beach were also great!
There were a few things that could be updated for potential future guests. The bunk beds were unstable, so sleeping 12 was a bit uncomfortable, this home is better suited for 8-9 adults with the current layout. Also, I wish this home had a few more amenities for cleanliness, we were told to bring towels, did not realize this also meant hand towels. The bathroom soaps were watered down and having a few more trash bags handy would have been great. Ended up with a lot of ants before we could make a run back into town. For the price, those small things go a long way.
The home was beautiful and well stocked. The view was even better! We hit Silver Lake Sand Dunes, which was a 20 minute trip. The owner was very pleasant and we had excellent communication with her. We will definitely be going back to enjoy the beautiful beach!
This home is exactly as described and more. Spacious, lots of amenities, and very peaceful, just what we were looking for. We love to cook and there were ample dishes, pots and pans were in excellent condition, and Eve was easy to find. Everything in the home was clearly labeled which made things easier. But the best part of this home was the outdoor amenities, great fire pit (we couldn’t start a fire as it was too windy but enjoyed the chairs and view of the lake). The beach access wears easy and fun, we counted 82 stairs as we made tons of journeys up and down, great way for our teens to burn off energy! The beach was peaceful and clean, we were there in March so it was chilly, but we still had fun skipping stones and walking the deserted shores. And amazing sunsets! The owners were so nice and great communicators, I’d highly recommend this property!
I booked Bent Pines for my friends and I to have a kid-free weekend getaway. All I can say is WOW. Besides the perfect views, the rooms were spacious, there was ample common space to have multiple little bubbles of gathers or one large one, and the house was very clean. I had a few friends that stayed at a different rental home earlier this summer and they said they were shocked with the pristine nature of Bent Pines. And since they were clean freaks, that certainly we an immediately stress reliever. They had everything provide you may need from technology to kitchen wares to beach stuff. My favorite moment was when one friend arrived the few of us were in the middle of an activity and without saying hi, he just kind of walked around outside.... examined the inside... then found us and just said "Yep....I could live here."
Thanks for sharing your home with us!
We had a great experience at Bent Pines! Kristie was very responsive leading up to our visit answering my questions by email about what was at the house. There were enough supplies at the house for everything we needed: toilet paper, handsoap, dish soap, dishwasher soap, kitchen towels. We brought our own bath towels and beach towels as required, along with our own paper towels, disinfecting wipes, and laundry detergent.
We were welcomed to the property with a great view and easy entry into the home using the front door keypad, and a little gift of local sundries. The home was well-stocked with things to do and outdoor items we used for fun in the sun and water. We played games and were able to use the smart TV to watch a couple movies during our stay on the rainy evenings as well.
The kitchen was a tiny bit lacking, perhaps. The pots and pans were very well used, which made it a little cumbersome to cook with, but we did do some limited cooking which was fine. The outdoor gas grill was great and we used it most days to grill our dinner. There was a bit of an issue with fruit flies in the kitchen when we arrived. We did the best we could to address it by keeping the kitchen garbage cover on, the sink clear of dishes and food particles, and food covered on the counter, with our used cans/bottles outside. We also set up our own fruit fly traps with syrup/vinegar/soap, and during the course of the week the problem definitely improved.
The bridge over the ravine and steps down to the beach were beautiful and well-maintained. We were able to use a couple floaties from the house to float and play in the lake. We took the kayaks out for a nice afternoon paddle as well. We watched the sunset from the beach, and by the bonfire pit above the bluff.
We took the Kramers' recommendations and visited Country Dairy for a farm tour (so fun and delicious) and rented a pontoon on White Lake from KAC Rentals (also great). We picked up local beer from North Grove Brewers and Fetch Brewing. We bought fresh produce from the little Grumpy Farmer CSA farmstand across the street.
Our family of 7 was able to spread out, with one couple in the basement bedroom with their own bathroom, another couple on the main floor with their own bathroom, and another couple and 2-year-old in separate bedrooms on the second floor with their own bathroom. Closet space was ample for storing clothing and suitcases.
Thanks again, Kramers! We look forward to returning!
Kristie and Mike Kramer are residents of Grand Rapids and 20+ years living in Michigan. Our families rented Bent Pines each year since 2011 and loved every week we spent there. When Don and Sue Miller offered to sell their property to us it a was a no brainer! We are so blessed to have the opportunity to share this with your family. Every summer we save a few weeks at Bent Pines to kayak, bike, hike, and cook with our family friends and 4 children. We hope you enjoy your time like we have.
Why they chose this property
We have always loved Lake Michigan and even more the convenience of the Whitehall Montague area. This is a great property 1 hour from downtown Grand Rapids on the beautiful Lake Michigan shore. Where else can you be so close to a major city yet have the solitude and privacy of the remote beaches of this area. Due to the very high claybanks of the north (some properties have over 300 steps to the beach) and the location north of Muskegon, these beaches have very little traffic.
