"The Hideaway", a handcrafted beach shack with modernist sensibilities.
If you are looking for a holiday house of original and rustic character nestled amongst the trees, backing onto bush, "The Hideaway" is for you. The house was built in the 1970's by an architect and features a timber ceiling and floors in the main room, with an open fire place. The Japanese inspired design divides the 2 minor bedrooms from the main room with sliding doors that open up during the day. The main bedroom and living room flow out to the back deck, for outdoor eating and relaxing. With 2 bathrooms and three bedrooms, the house comfortably sleeps up to 4 guests. The kitchen is well appointed with good quality cooking utensils, and there is plenty of space to store your food in the pantry.
The open fire place adds character and warmth. A few tips for guests who are not familiar with open fires, are to start with several rolled up sheets of newspaper, some fire lighters, and small sticks. Build the fire slowly, stacking wood to ensure air flow. Set the fire to the back of the fire place to avoid it from smoking. Once alight, it will really add to the rustic experience. You can always look up YouTube if you need further help!
Please note, If you are looking for an "upmarket" house with bling, this is not the house for you. It appeals to guests who like an earthy and character filled house. Also, please be aware that during spring, the gum trees drop pollen, which may cause allergies, in which case you can take an anti-histamine purchased form the Bawley Point chemist.
The house is in walking distance to three divine beaches. Grab a coffee from Flo's coffee van, south of Gannet Beach, buy the best sour dough bread from Lagom Bakery (next to the fish shop) at Burrill Lake. Ride your Mountain Bike on the Ulladulla MTB track and grab a pie for Hayden's pies on your way home. Take the kids or do some laps/gym at the Aquatic Centre at Bateman's Bay. Walk along the beaches or find a track in the National Park.

I absolutely loved staying here. The property has a very remote backyard and the house is stocked with everything you could possibly need. It's simple (as the description states) but great for a family getaway
Perfect for a family get away with a short walk to the beach. The children loved the cozy lounge with a fire. The back deck looking onto beautiful trees was ahighlight. We even a bandicoot in the back yard one night.
Enjoyed our stay - fun house with great atmosphere and beautiful bush setting. Missed the detail about needing to bring our own bed linen and towels - but otherwise great stay.

Hi Julie,
Glad you enjoyed the stay. Thanks for letting us know about the message to bring your own linen and towels - we will make sure it's highlighted from now on.
Well appointed property with great atmosphere and feel. Peaceful and private with very short walk to the beach. Even had tasteful art on the walls. Would definitely rent this property again in the future. Wonderful!
I had a gorgeous weekend away with my partner and two friends. The house was perfect for four people, though there were extra beds. Lovely fire place and well-equipped kitchen. Great location close to the beach but also amongst the trees.
A wonderful spot for a family getaway. Great backyard for the kids with BBQ area and deck, with games + Netflix. Instructions were well set out and everything we needed was in the house when we arrived. The neighbourhood was very quiet and peaceful, with a variety of beaches and walks nearby.
It was just what you want in a holiday house. Super clean and considered items included. A little track through to the beach is so close and another bush track through to the beach in the north. We saw a wombat heading through on our night ramble. Lots of whales slapping their tales and breaching right off the rocks. Outdoor shower. All fabulous. would be great to have 'bring sheets' included in the check-in message because I really had to dig deep to find that message. Overall, great experience.
Comfortable cottage with welcoming rustic charm. Close to beach and Bawley Point Shopping Centre so no need to travel to Ulladulla during stay. Coffee from Luci's Cafe Bawley Point great, coffee, sour dough and pastry from Logum Bakery exceptional. Will be happy to stay here again and for longer time. Kim
